Atmosphere, that magical combination of sense of place and evocative music, that lingering feeling that still thrives years after playing the games, that was always my main takeaway from the monkey Island series. And it's in that sense that the first three games excel and the other two falter, regardless of any plot holes or lore breaking elements that were never as important to me4 points

The door is open for a CMI remaster now, I think. This would be the ideal opportunity to bring the games to new consoles too. The only thing really that holds Curse back visually is the resolution, which crunches the background/character art down significantly and all but destroys the cutscene quality. A game like Curse would truly shine in 4K resolution, not to mention widescreen, with the non-scrolling backgrounds most likely being expanded to 16:9.3 points

By pure stroke of luck, I managed to catch a rumour that this might be happening on a Facebook group about a year ago. Never in my wildest dreams did I think it would turn out to be real (though I saved the screenshots just in case; the post was removed eventually) or that Ron was involved, but here we are!3 points

Yeah CMI is so beautifully realized that it really "just" needs to be redone in hi-res, not reinterpreted in any way. Basically, the whole game should look like the box art, which already passes as a screenshot with no deferences to compression. Dunno how likely such a thing is, but RMI selling like hotcakes won't hurt anything.2 points

Hopefully Lucasfilm is seeing all this reaction and going, "Huh. This whole investing in legacy IP thing -- maybe there's something to it?" Which will probably just lead to Guybrush being an unlockable character in Battlefront III, but I say dream big.2 points

Yes! Make it happen! and while you’re at it, please re-remake part 1 and 2 with the same love please. And maybe get Skunkape to remaster Tales! And sure, remake part 4 while you’re at it! Please make everything possible that you can while this wave lasts!1 point

Just checked YouTube and apparently the trailer is fluctuating between the #5 and #10 trending spots worldwide at this moment! A very strong sign that people are generally very excited by this news!1 point

I get what people say about CMI, and I understand the sentiment. But that game gets a pass from me because of everything it puts to the table. The art style, animation, cinematography, atmosphere, humour, voice acting (which was a first), music and everything was so top notch, not to mention it had to start from the point where Ron left it, (which must've been really hard). CMI has the disadvantage of not being made by the original creator, but makes up for it in all other fields. EMI... not so much.1 point

Assuming that Ron has been given creative carte blanche on this game, then everything in it is of course "his vision," including any acknowledgments of the sequels he decides to incorporate.1 point

Hmm maybe just as a shader-made easter egg, but definitely not with the care we are used to (Mark Ferrari). The art direction is pretty clear and to have proper pixel art for Monkey Island, you'd have to hire completely different directors and sets of artists (not to mention animators).1 point

Hugely excited about this, and I can’t wait to see more! A lot of really talented people are involved with this game, both veterans and newcomers. I have a slight worry about the art style and animations of the game, based on the teaser and the website. It has that digital vector animation look that often comes across as impersonal and cheap, almost like a mobile game. The Special Editions had the same issue, especially SMI. I’m sure the game will be great regardless, and I’m hoping further footage will prove me wrong, and that the game will look as stunning as the first three Monkey Island games did in their time!1 point

I thought we'd never get another Monkey Island game, let alone one overseen by Ron, let alone one with music composed by the Monkey 2 dream team. Amazing news and it's coming this year. I enjoyed Knights and Bikes and kept daydreaming about Monkey Island in that art style whilst playing it, so Rex Crowle as art director is ideal. (And now I'm daydreaming about customising Guybrush's pirate garb like you get to do with the girls' bikes in Knights and Bikes.) Also thrilled that Dave Grossman is on board, and found this really sweet:1 point

The art style looks like an evolution from MI2, which was already leaning towards a stylistic vibe over the more 'realistic' SOMI. I know Ron wasn't such a fan of the more realistic close ups etc. I personally always liked them, and the pixel art kind of let your own imagination run wild as to what it all really looked like. I guess my one hope is that they keep that "light horror with an edge" vibe of MI2 - like that LeChuck was actually kind of scary. Some of his designs over the years with short stubby legs always felt like they undercut the character. But I'm looking forward to seeing more of everything. It's so great that so many of the original team are back!1 point

Hi there, I just discovered a stash of old MI fanfics from the 1990s and early 2000s on the Wayback archives of Worldofmi and Lucasfic: https://web.archive.org/web/20080316075709/http://www.worldofmi.com/features/fan/fiction/ https://web.archive.org/web/20080224191108/http://lucasfic.mixnmojo.com/ Finding this stuff after all these years feels so nostalgic, I really hope for a comeback of some sort.1 point

Ha, I made the logo for LucasArts Fiction...I really liked the idea of fan fiction, but I was a young and dumb kid with no writing skills. You can read my lone unfinished submission on there (I'm Mike Harvat). Yikes.1 point

We have the files collected from various backups. Afraid I can't help you with LogicDeluxe's recordings as we didn't host those. Highland Productions is already available as that was mainly a MIDI-based site: https://highland.mixnmojo.com/ I plan to consolidate the various digital recordings under one site but there's still some work left on that. All my recordings were in the Ogg Vorbis format which never took off. I also have much better recording equipment now than I did 12 years ago so I intend to re-record my stuff and make it available in FLAC and MP3. That includes the complete Sam & Max Hit the Road soundtrack played back on an SC-55.1 point
