  2. I've made some comments on the twitter post as well, but I wanted to put here some as well. The Ultimate Insult poster -What a waste of a print. The Monkey Island navigation recipe would be far better received and enjoyed than this marker-scribbled poster of my least favorite of the games. Sure there was humor in that game but jeez, this may as well be the dunce cap. I guess we're lucky it's not the Abomination inventory item. What else could be made from EMI that I would care for, I don't know yet. The Guybrush statue - While nothing in particular is putting me off of it, it's still not exceptional. I would rather like a Curse version of a Murray skull, as others have also mentioned in tweets. The Shadowbox, the E Ticket, the disc, all lovely! I'm looking forward to the comprehensive-sounding book. And I'm not too bothered by the USB drive but it's slightly too easy and low effort. The black box to cover it all is disappointing.

  3. Maniac Mansion NES was the first adventure game I ever completed (Space Quest II was the first I ever played, but I never completed it until much later), so I'm always happy to see someone mention it. Speaking of that, I've been collecting the Flashback dedicated consoles and managed to snag the Adventure Flashback Blast! for a good price on Mercari. It contains games based on Disney and Lucasfilm properties, and surprisingly it also includes the NES version of Maniac Mansion. I managed to talk to Ron and Gary at PAX East when I was working at the Double Fine booth, and Ron said that most people tell him that the NES was the system they used when playing Maniac Mansion. It was awesome to finally meet them, as they're two of my inspirations (Ron for gaming and coding, and Gary for art - especially comic art). Now if I can meet Tim Schafer (he wasn't at PAX East unfortunately, but I did get to work with Spaff), Steve Purcell, Michael Land, Michael Stemmle, Peter McConnell, and Bill Tiller, I'd be able to die happy.

  4. I went on holiday to the San Juan islands four years ago all because of that DFA documentary episode. It's a lovely area.

  5. This fan documentary premiered yesterday, and features excellent new audio interviews with Ron, Dave and Mark Ferrari. Orson Scott Card and Steve Purcell have also contributed, voiced by actors. It touches on most aspects of the production, including plenty of details that were new to me and some fun anecdotes.

  6. An interesting article from The Verge: This bit seems particularly significant: Interesting.

  7. I'm sorry to derail the thread again, but going back to the LRG releases, I'm a little bit worried. I was not a fan of the Sega CD special edition, it was a little bit too generic. The size of the box is weird, not reminiscent of any size of big box for PC I've ever seen. The poster was cool (Thanks @Laserschwert) but on the reverse we get a blown up logo of Stan's shop, I found it it be a pretty odd choice. The pin and the coin are really generic as well. And the postcards could've been more inspired, there is a ton of great concept art for MI floating around. I really loved the "Ask me about Loom" pin. I know it must be hard to manage all these LucasArts re-releases at once, and some things needed to be standardized (box, coin, pin) or maybe they were limited by Disney. I feel there is much more to show from the series, and even some releases like the Dark Forces/JK series got some newly written essays to go with the games. Anyway, I'm pretty sure we will get something really better for the complete series this month. PS: I'm a big fan of LRG, and I'm glad to confirm they are the great guys they seem to be online, perhaps I'm too big of a fan of MI for my own good.

  8. Okay, did a quick scan for you - my copy of this box isn't in the best condition, I just bought it for the floppy disks, but if you feel this is usable and would like me to try and make a better copy or in a specific file format / resolution / etc just let me know and I'll be happy to help.

  9. I have a kixx copy of zak, I'll scan it in a couple of hours. I've got a few other things I've been meaning to scan too.

  10. Some kind soul shared a high quality scan of this on Facebook a while back. I don't know if it's something you'd include LS. But if it is, let me know and I'll give you a link.

  11. A great addition! If you are okay with it, I'd like to add them to the opening post (and copy them over to the Mojo server for hosting as well). In other news: I've added the artwork to the two X-Wing expansions, "B-Wing" and "Imperial Pursuit", as well as the TIE Fighter expansion "Defender of the Empire". Also new: A promo artwork for "Jedi Knight".

  12. Here are scans of the 5 episode posters from Telltale's Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse episodes. Poster design by Stephen Whetstine and shared with permission. The artwork for The City that Dares Not Sleep drawn by Steve Purcell. The posters were originally 17x11", but were scanned on an A3 scanner and thus missing a couple of millimetres in length, but otherwise very close to the A3 paper format.

  13. On another note, I'd like to show some comparisons of what I mean by updating existing posters. The improvements in quality result from a combination of a) having access to better sources and b) having better tools at my disposal. Note that on my old versions I often used fake texture and bump-mapping to simulate brush strokes and detail where originally there was nothing like that (although some details and grain are added artificially in the new versions as well). Here are a few samples: https://imgur.com/hcrfIOu I'd also like to show an extreme example of better ways to upscale images using basically artificial intelligence (or "machine learning"). The promotional "Infernal Machine" artwork (or something that was an early concept for the main cover) was originally only shared on Drew Struzans own website, albeit at very low resolution. Here's how it looks after upscaling it in various steps:

  14. Sorry about being so picky Scanning can be a bitch though. If you're not too enamoured of the box, you could always just cut off the rest of the lid. I killed my share of boxes and manuals for the "greater good".
