  1. I like to imagine that at some point the real Captain Marley shows up and it transpires that Hermanโ€™s โ€œrevelationโ€ in Escape was caused by him being hit over the head too many times.

  2. Anytime! And yes, I totally wrote this from memory. I've played these games A LOT (as I'm sure many of you guys have).

  3. Alexandra Boyd is confirmed as Elaine and interestingly, Gavin Hammon as Stan, who played him in Tales. I wonder if Pat Pinney was asked or did Ron not like his voice? Idk, that's adding to my suspicion that we're getting some post-Tales stuff. I mean, his very presence in this game would nullify Curse as canon (which we now know they have been careful not to do). Either that or we just put him in the coffin AGAIN, but that just feels really uninspired for these writers. The presence of the Voodoo Lady would nullify Curse as canon too because Guybrush clearly hasn't seen her since the events of 2 when he sees her in that game. The more I think about it, the more I'm thinking that this is gonna be a MI3/MI6 at the same time sorta deal, where the people who want to ignore the post-Gilbert era are free to, but it can take place mostly at a much later period of the characters' lives after we deal with the immediate aftermath of MI2's ending. To me, that's the cleanest way to bring in fan favourites from any entry in the series and not have to engage with any inconsistencies. I can picture the structure going something like: Part One - Carnival, Part Two - Time skip with a new status quo that sets up the main plot. Part Three and Four - Ending, Secret Revealed, Battle with LeChuck, etc. I also just like stories that take places over different time periods, and the Monkey Island series has never done that, it would be something new to explore and an older, experienced Guybrush with Ron's writing would be super cool and kinda unexpected.

  4. If they do that, I hope that's the only thing from EMI they consider trying to fit into RTMI. It would suck if someone on the RTMI team was like, "Hey, let's try and fix Monkey Kombat!" or "let's bring in more references to the later games!". I have a feeling Ron is just focussed on making his game, though. Phew. Speaking of characters who could appear, there's so many to choose from the first two games I'd like to see again. Actually one of the things I enjoyed about EMI was seeing Otis and Carla again. And being on the original islands was a great idea -- except they were unrecognisable, so that ruined it. I hope Melee and (presumably) Monkey Island don't have their geographies changed at all. Actually all this reminiscing is making me want to play the first two games again... sigh.

  5. Ha. I love the idea that he's in hell... and maybe he's so annoying they send him back!

  6. I just had this thought as well, that would be hilarious ๐Ÿ˜‚ he's till trying to sell you stuff while occasionally mentioning how he cant let a small thing like being trapped in a coffin stop him from feeling the thrill of a sale or something better written than that ๐Ÿ™‚ ... or, if we do go to hell maybe he actually did die and is there but we run into him trying to sell death or whatever pirate devil something they want in trade for coming back to life. I sort of like that and it doesn't really need to change any dialog. If anything it reinforces stans choice to sell life insurance. any changes that might have to come could be solved as well by having him not remember his time in hell although I like him remembering better

  7. The interaction between Guybrush and the Voodoo Lady makes it very clear that they haven't seen each other since he was searching for Big Whoop. From Curse: GB: "Boy have I got some stories to tell you!" VL:"Stories?! Yes...well, I'm sensing a great disturbance. I have to go". GB: "But I've gotta tell you about LeChuck! And Elaine!" VL: "I'm going to disappear now in a big flash of light, cover your eyes! GB: "No no, wait! It started back on Dinky Island...and I knew LeChuck was close..." VL: "I'll be disappearing here any moment!" GB: "Ok, ok, no stories" Or this: GB: "I finally found Big Whoop and was enormously disappointed" VL: "Big Whoop is pure evil. You were lucky to escape alive" GB: "I can't remember much about it, just that I was expecting so much more and felt so let down." VL: "Yes, it is the source of much of LeChuck's power"

  8. EMI to me has the more aggregious retcon with Herman Toothrot, because it actively changes a character to the point where they can never re-enter the series as the same person; in other words, it did Irreparable damage. Tales, on the other hand, is an inconsistency at worst. I liked all the Crossroads stuff in Chapter 5 anway, so I'm not too bothered about that, but you could always argue that LeChuck used Big Whoop AND a spell, though I understand if that's a bit of a stretch. I don't think Ron needs to explain anything, just don't acknowledge it. Really, the only thing I hope Ron addresses if in fact any of it is set Post-Tales, is the after credits scene where the Voodoo Lady is clearly not done meddling with, as she puts it "the tides of destiny". That entire plotpoint, to me, was some of the best in the series and I'd love to see that developed more. It wouldn't surprise me if that reveal was Ron's idea in the brainstorming (maybe jake or someone can confirm).

  9. On Tales Steve said he thought Ryan Jonesโ€™ rendition of Guybrush was complimentary to how he saw the character at the time, and Steve and Ryan worked together on The Devilโ€™s Playhouse. Of course Steve, Ron, and Dave have worked together before too believe it or not, so who knows! Iโ€™d love to see a Steve box, but Iโ€™d also love to see what Rex Crowle would do!

  10. Here's hoping for some new Steve Purcell box art.

  11. I think, considering how fiddly it would be to literally start directly after the ending of MI2 while also keeping COMI in canon and having Murray in the game, we should bear in mind that it's possible that Devolver tweet only meant it is picking up thematically/authorially rather than continuity-wise. It's just one early tweet from a PR person, it might not be super-accurate. I wish they and Ron had foreseen some of these questions and pre-emptively organised their communication so we weren't all so confused, but equally it would behove us to remember that pre-release info can often be misleading or subject to change, and therefore not take anything as gospel until the game is in our hands. Personally, I feel like Ron's preference will be to take the least fiddly approach possible, he doesn't seem like one to start creating big tangled plots just to justify canon. I think he'll keep all the sequels in canon but feel free to mostly ignore without contradicting them, while including Murray and whatever else he finds useful/appropriate to the story he's telling, and go back to the themes and events he's interested in.

  13. So the greatest thing is it's going to begin immediately where MI2 left off, as officially stated by Devolver Digital. Can this get any better?!
