  1. When you mention creating a quantity of 50 or 100 boxes, I cant help but feel they'll eventually end up on ebay as hard to identify bootlegs.

My advice, continue your product for yourself and people who may approach you for a copy of their own. But dont start selling this from a webshop or anything like that. It will ruin more than it will bring good.

  2. Late last year I made some custom boxes too. As gifts for my brothers and as custom box for the Special editions of MI, inspired by Laser's custom box at the time.

While it's awesome we can do this to great detail now, everyone should be warned there's scammers on eBay now using this technique to sell fake boxes for high prices. Just recently I think someone scamming a lot of honest collectors with fake sealed boxes. So I really usually add a little personal note in one of the bottom cover labels.

Both designs were created from scratch, using Laserschwert's awesome poster files for most of the the artwork.Β

To everybody mad at not being a part of this: This was a project we really wanted to keep small to avoid any legal problems. Had we made this known on an international forum like this one, or even social media, it would have exploded in scope and surely would have been shut down by Lucasfilm.

Originally my friend only wanted to have big boxes to put the DVD case in, maybe adding a poster to it. But I proposed more goodies we could add, so it already grew bigger than expected. Packing and shipping 30 of these was a big undertaking in itself for a single person (my friend did that, I only designed the stuff), so having to do this for hundreds or more would not have been possible.

I understand the risks of a project like that and the choice to keep it small circle. No worries. Thanks for sharing pack.ly, that's seems like an extremely affordable service.

Do you have any tips to share on first draft mistakes or oversights you might have run into with the design and final print?

Do you plan to share a poster scan/restoration of the special edition collection coverart? ;Β

Yeah, I want to know more about these Special Edition boxes for 1-2, and Tales. I was looking to make a special slipcover for the Tales treasure chest box release, but I'm curious about these. Please, do go on...

    And @Laserschwert , you tease! :)

Leandro made them using scans and probably Laserschwaert magic. I think he lurks the forums.

I had no idea. My brain went to Wing Commander IV rather than Phantasmagoria, but it's the same deal. Imagine still thinking it was a good idea to ship a game on multiple CD-ROMs nearly ten years after my favourite FMV-fest.

    Β

At least with those old school games you got a sense of achievement as you advanced through the CD-ROMs. Except when you had to swap back to disc 1 because you died. I'm curious to know too - did the FMV get streamed from the CDs, or was it all installed? It was installed, right? It mustΒ have been installed. Right?

I think wciv came with a dvd, actually being one of the first (if not first) games on dvd.
