  1. Q

Evil Q is the name that I've been using all along, I'd just reversed it.

  2. Thanks. It is rather breathtaking isn't it?

Any guesses as to what it is? :dev7:

  3. Sorry I didn't reply to this sooner, but I haven't been online for a few days.

Anyways, AFAIK you should be fine with an X58 motherboard and any video card that comes out in the next couple of years. Just make sure that it supports both SLI and Crossfire to keep your options open video card-wise.

And if what happened. DX10 is any indication, I wouldn't rush out to buy a DX11 card as soon as they come out unless they offer a huge performance advantage over DX10 cards. You may be better off just getting a good, cheap DX10 card for now and holding off until DX11 actually becomes relevant. It'll all depend on just how much bang for the buck the DX11 cards will bring to the table.

    Hey, welcome back. :)

If you don't mind, this thread could really benefit from your knowledge and wisdom on the subject.

  5. Hey, I've been checking the thread about that Micro Center Core i7 deal and apparently a lot of the stores still have quite a few of them in stock even though it's showing up as OOS online. You should probably call that LA store with your credit card ready and buy it over the phone if they still have one and then have them hold it for you until you're in LA and can pick it up.

As far as that Newegg combo goes, they have several Vista Ultimate 64 combo deals with other things that you need like motherboards, so you wouldn't be missing out on that.

UPDATE: as of 11:00PM (8:00PM your time) The Tustin store has 37 in stock. You can grab one online and then call the store and tell them when you'll be there to pick it up.

  6. It's from a Funkadelic tune.

  7. *checks*

No. I was out doing some yard work for a couple of hours, and it popped up during that time.

  8. I found a better deal!!111!!! Don't order that PSU!!!!11one!!

  9. I found something, but you'll have to hurry. At that price, they're probably sellin' like crack. :D
  10. 100? Damn! :eyepop

Actually, I've only used it a couple of times and I usually take the offender off of it after I've cooled down. I really haven't felt the need to keep anyone on it, so the number is zero.

Rather tolerant of me, huh? :p

  11. Q

I think that you're referring to the "Frame Buffer Effects" option in the game menu that gives the Force Speed blur effect and stuff like that. That has also caused some problems with certain cards and drivers, but I'm pretty sure that they're two different things.

I guess that you could fire up TSL and load a save to be sure, though.

  12. Q

Something tells me that you may have all of the time in the world for that final pre-TSLRP playthrough. ;)

  13. Q

    Great! :)

If you're going to give TSL a full playthrough, I'd be interested in hearing about any anomalies that you encounter. I think that I'm going to install both KotOR1 and TSL on my new Vista machine (which uses the same card as yours) with the new drivers just to see if I can get them to work.

  14. Q

I know, it sucks. Try the "Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1" (under "Graphics Options") .ini hack first. :(

Do you have any idea what driver version you were using back in September? They should work even if they were from before the introduction of the GeForce 9 series because, for all practical purposes, the later GeForce 8 series is identical to the GeForce 9.

  15. Q

Oh, I thought you already knew about this. I'll take it to PM. ;)

  16. Q

If I were you, I would try rolling back to the driver version that you were using when you last played TSL without any problems. I know that it sucks, but at least you don't have to deal with trying to get TSL to run on Vista. :p

And feel free to run the resolution patcher and bump the resolution up to 1920x1200 or even the full 2560x1600. That card has triple the shader count and a 50% wider memory bus width of your old card. It should be able to handle a MUCH higher resolution. Astro says that TSL is beautiful at 1600p. :)

  17. Q

    You're welcome. :)

Be sure to let me know how it performs compared to your 8600GTS.

  18. Q

I thought that I'd let you know that I got my rebate check from PNY on Saturday. As long as you jump through the hoops correctly you'll get your money. :)

As far as your monitor goes, IMO it is one of the best panels of any brand that you can own. From a gaming perspective, it's even better than the 2008 model, which has input lag/response time issues. The only thing that it really lacks is input options like HDMI, which really isn't very important to me. The cheapest that I ever saw it was when the Dell outlet was selling referbs for ~$600.00 with a 3-year warranty. From what I heard, the refurbs were perfect, making the deal very tempting, but I still didn't have the money for one even at that price. :(

  19. Q

Damn, did you ever stir up a hornet's nest! Well, Kavar's was getting boring. :p

  20. Q

I decided a couple of years ago that finding the best bang for the buck in computer hardware was an excellent outlet for my OCD. :p

  21. Welcome back!

    Stick around. ;)

  22. I just know my weapons. ;)

  23. Welcome back, ChAiNz! :D

  24. Q

It is rather suggestive, isn't it? :p

  25. Thanks. :)

My avvy's are leftovers from my experiments with the Jimi Hendrix Experience. :p
