  1. Nothing on Windows Update for sound drivers. Hmmm...I'm gonna try to reinstall the sound drivers, but I'm having trouble figuring out where to uninstall the current ones. *feels stupid* I know this, I know it... >/_\< EDIT: Nevermind, I figured it out and reinstalled them. Guess what? FAIL.
  2. Well, the drivers are provided by AnalogDevices, version 5.10.1.5860, created 7/8/2008, and signed by Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Publisher. The sound is integrated, and the drivers came with the computer (though I think I had to turn to the internet to get actual working drivers...)
  3. I had exactly the same crashes with exactly the same timing until I did this: After starting the game, press Ctrl-Shift-Esc to bring up the task manager. Right-click "Knights of the Old Republic" under the applications list and select "Go to process." Right click on the highlighted process (probably something like kotor.exe) and select "Set Affinity..." In the dialog box that comes up, deselect all but one core. Then return to the game and see what happens ^/_\^ Just remember that you'll need to do this every time you start the game.
  4. Yep. No effect. I said already, the only way the program reaches the application stage (i.e., it shows up under the applications list & actually starts) is by disabling sound. As a matter of fact, I found the included disk for my 9500 and installed its drivers, which were even older than the rolled-back drivers. (now it's at nVidia driver version 6.14.11.7519) and the program still doesn't work. I really don't think it's the video drivers at all...
  5. You know what? I have a question: Why would graphics card drivers matter when disabling sound is what fixes the problem?
  6. Nope. No change. The older OGL driver I managed to install is 6.14.11.8122, and it still doesn't work, though now it takes 11,408K of memory. So it's still broken, but it's smaller. Should I rollback farther? If I need to, please provide a link to older drivers, because these were hard enough to find.
  7. I'm having a problem with TSL...it simply doesn't start. I've changed every single option I possibly can, and the only time it starts is when I disable sound, though I'm sure my sound drivers are updated. If I don't disable sound, swkotor2.exe remains in the process list and never reaches application stage, staying at about 11,484K of memory. It's an Intel Core-2 Duo E8300 running at 2.83GHz for each core, and 2GBs of ram, running Windows XP Pro SP3. The graphics card is an nVidia GeForce 9500 GT with 512MB DDR3. I had the same problem on my old computer in fact, which was a crappy, minimum-spec computer with a GeForce FX 5500, though it didn't used to have that problem (It worked when I bought it, but I came back after a year of not playing TSL & this problem showed up. WTF?)   8. I agree with machinecult, if you don't want the cheats, just don't use them. Besides, I have my own ideas for the kinds of cheats available, and the ways of getting them. 1) The "I suck at this" cheat: lose the same battle 9 times on the easiest mode at easiest possible odds and a window will pop up saying, "Do you want to actually win the battle?" with Yes / No options. Selecting yes gives you loads more ammo, loads more health, higher damage shots, and a buddy following you around. This ensures that even the guys who REALLY suck at the game can, eventually, get through the game. Once you've beaten the battle that was giving you trouble, however, these go away. Selecting "No" simply lets you keep trying to win. 2) Various unlockable levels of "Shield Generator" which gives you an extra bar of "shield" health sort of like in BFII, but regenerates after a time of not getting hit. The second highest level (available after playing through a story mode on hardest difficulty) would be a quickly regenerating shield that basically makes you so tough only a rocket, lava, or an AT-AT's foot can take you down. The absolute highest level is pure invulnerability from anything and everything; swimming across rivers of lava to find hidden, amusing easter eggs would become possible with this activated - stormtrooper rock concert, anyone? You'd first catch sight of it through a sniper rifle, probably, then activate the cheat and swim on over. 3) Various unlockable levels of a "buddy" ranging from a tiny little orb used by jedi to train their lightsabers and does nothing except draw a few enemy shots away from you to a fully fledged assault droid you can ride on if you want. Again, it would be unlocked after playing through on hardest difficulty. 4) Various unlockable levels of "Ammo Packs" which give you stages from a single extra clip of everything to unlimited clips (my favorite thing to do on BFII was run around with an infinite rocket launcher & grenades and watch stormtroopers get launched by the fireworks) or even simply an endless clip (infinite ammo with no reloads required). Playing through on hardest difficulty unlocks the unlimited clips, and playing through a SECOND time on hardest would unlock the endless clip option. A separate option for vehicles would simply reduce the reload time until the endless clip becomes available. 5) Unlockable levels of "Coolant injectors" which increase the overheat times and lower cooldown times for blasters and cannons that use overheating as a limiting factor to how much you can fire them. The ultimate level (zero heat-up from firing) would be achieved the first hardest-difficulty playthrough. 6) More force energy available for a jedi's force powers, you should know the drill for the restrictions by this point. 7) More energy for actions such as running fast, jumping, etc. You know the drill. There's probably more, but remember: the cheats are only for singleplayer or local co-op modes, and each cheat would have varying "intensities" if you will. If you're against all out unlimited ammo, but would like to have a little more ammo for that one thing you're always running out of, you can do that. If you want to turn on the impermeable armor for a brief moment to run screaming from a pursuing vehicle until it runs you down, then you can do that too. If you want to grab a sniper rifle and a jetpack, and turn on the option for unlimited jetpack fuel, and fly around sniping headshots like Fett would, then you can even do that (until you get skewered by a passing speeder). The cheats would be unlockable, simply there for those who want them, and have varying levels for anyone who wants to use them. Even I admit that playing invincible is just no fun, but I'd like to be able to last a little longer than twelve seconds in an intense movie-like firefight before dying, and something like this would allow me to do just that. Games are made to be fun, and having cheats available in some obscure section of the in-battle options menu would allow more people to have their own kind of fun, especially the people who just want to correct the little things about the game that irritate them (such as dying TOO quickly to have fun, overheating too quickly to kill much, or just plain not being able to "blow **** up," to quote the folks at Insomniac. Having cheats also means you can literally unwind after getting angry at someone without getting frustrated by anything. That's something I do sometimes myself, after a day of getting annoyed by preps and evil teachers, I just want to sit back, relax, and annihilate a few thousand hostiles singlehandedly. Oh, wait, if I want to do that I just play DW, nevermind. (If you know what that is, then you understand). But I digress. My fingers are getting stiff and I'm trying to eat. Peace out!
  9. Let's examine the evidence we can rest assured is valid: the evidence on FR's website. In the Games section, we can see beside the "Top Secret" picture a title: "Secret LucasArts Project (NextGen Platforms) - TBA" Let's assume (for lack of REAL conflicting information) that the "project" is BFIII. First of all, we can make a note of several things: 1) The game will be classified as "NextGen" 2) The game will be on more than one "NextGen" console (note the plural "platforms") Looking at the other games on their list, we realize more things about their game production habits. Firstly, observe the consoles their games have been released on: PS2 / PS3: TimeSplitters, TimeSplitters 2, Second Sight, TimeSplitters Future Perfect, HAZE XBOX (none on 360 yet): TimeSplitters 2, Second Sight, TimeSplitters Future Perfect GC: TimeSplitters 2, Second Sight, TimeSplitters Future Perfect PC: Second Sight From the above information, I make these predictions on the unknowns on the page: TimeSplitters 4: PS3, XBOX 360 Secret Project: PS3, XBOX 360, PC Now my reasons for the predictions are these. First of all, "NextGen Platforms" must logically include both the PS3 and XBOX 360, so they are given (obvious, I know). If the "Secret Project" is indeed Battlefront III, It will probably be on the PC. The reason I believe this is because PC games are easily moddable and therefore last much longer in the higher ranks than comparable "static" games. I would have lost interest in Empire at War and the Battlefield series long ago if it weren't for the mods available for each. From a marketing perspective: the PS3 and XBOX 360 are the most powerful NextGen Consoles on the market, and would be the best picks for a FPS with as big a hype as Battlefront III. Both of the other BF, as well a substantial amount of other Star Wars games have come out for the PC if at all on the consoles; this therefore means that many fans of Star Wars games will have a PC, because of the volume of good games for it. I doubt FR would ignore such a large portion of Star Wars gamers. In short, more gamers for a console = more buyers = more $$$; the vast majority of SW Gamers either have a PC, or a console from Sony or Microsoft (or all three, as some have). The smart thing would be for them to create an easily moddable version for the PC, then give the two console versions a whole bunch of extras that couldn't be duplicated by mods on the PC. This would create double sales from many who own a PC and a Console - the gamer buys the PC version for the mods, and the version for the console of their choice for all the extras. I'm starting to see more games built this way in the attempt to get more sales on the same game, and the people at Free Radical are clearly not stupid; they'll likely attempt the same. The only difference is they'll actually be successful. Those are my reasons: FR will make BFIII on the PS3 according to FR's production habits, on the 360 (because it's another NextGen console), and the PC because LucasArts / Battlefront tradition dictates it to at least be on PC. Another reason that applies to having all three is so the game is available to a wider range of gamers, and therefore make more money. To whoever said it above: yes, making video games costs a lot of money in itself, but it would actually be more expensive to make two video games than it would be to make a single game on multiple consoles; why do you think they do it all the time? To jawathehutt: I think it'll be 4.5m O, but 2.25m O2, depending on whether you wanted the natural diatomic state or not (I think, seeing as how there'd be 1.5m O2 and 3m O in CaCO3). I could be wrong, but I don't have my chemistry teacher on hand to ask, so I'll go with the answer of 2.25m of O2. Correct me if I'm wrong, please. But I digress... oh, and about the LucasArts "dropping" Star Wars? To that I say, "A bigger load of yellow journalism I've never seen." (I could say worse things, but that would be against my religious principles) LucasArts formed a PARTNERSHIP with Free Radical, that's not the same as dropping Star Wars and handing it over to some other company. It'd never happen in the first place though, so why even bring it up? If I've made any goof-ups, please point them out so that I may correct them. Thank you!
