  1. Hi LotF!

The avatar is the Archadian Emperor Gramis from Final Fantsy XII - I've got a bit of a FFXII theme going on with the Judges in my sig, so thought I'd give that a go too!

I like yours as well - Starkiller from Raxus Prime?

  2. Merely an unfortunate oversight, I'm sure! :D Thanks for the add!

  3. I've seen the movie, actually! It's nice coming across the likes of Mr. Lamb the Carpenter, Killick the steward, Pullings, etc. in the first book in the series - and no matter what I do, I can't disassociate Jack Aubrey from Russel Crowe!

  4. I am doing well, thanks CommanderQ - still reading away at Master & Commander! It really is a great read - thanks for the recommends. :)

    How are you doing?

  5. That was quite possibly the longest post I have ever written...just...such questions!

  6. What do I like? Well, I'm very into British Constitutional law at the moment (from my course) - it is all tied up in history, politics and legal theory, so makes for some nice arguments!

I'm also getting very interested in Napoleonic era novels - most particularly C.S. Forester and Patrick O'Brian - I've just started reading Master & Commander.

Beyond that, Roman history and, of course, gaming! :D

    And you?

  7. SW01

Oh - thank you very much indeed! :D

  8. Oh hi there! Nothing much going on over here, I'm afraid. Just carrying on with reading and studying!

    How about yourself sir? :)

  9. I have indeed! I have read up to Aubrey getting command of the Sophie. I was very impressed with the music hall scene when he first meets Maturin.

Very well recommended - I'm really enjoying it! :D

  10. Hmm...the 'Bodies Stay K1' link isn't working properly for me either - I'm getting a 0kb file.

  11. You are, of course, welcome! ;) As I say, it is quite different from Aubrey-Maturin and Hornblower, but it's a series I liked!

  12. Well, I managed to find and buy Master & Commander at a local bookshop - I was quite pleased with myself, actually! I shall be starting that one tonight (yay for the weekend).

Also, I had a look at amazon and found a collection of the 'young' Hornblower books - the 'first' three by the story chronology, so I'll be buying thoe soon, too!

Thanks for the help CQ. By the by, if you enjoy those, you may also like Sharpe, Bernard Cornwell's - it's still the Napoleonic Wars, though it is set in Wellington's army rather than the fleet. ;) Course, I'd advise borrowing one from a library first. First in the series is Sharpe's Rifles.

  13. Hi there CommanderQ!

I'm thinking of buying some of the Hornblower and Master & Commander series - was wondering if you knew what the first title for each was? If you don't mind my asking. :)

  14. Another non-functional link, eh? What's the mod?

  15. No problem :)

  16. Ok - that's been sent ;)

  17. Just PM'ed you myself - sure, go ahead!

  18. SW01

Well, I have 2GB of RAM, the big problem is the graphics card - I'm currently limited to a laptop with an integrated card...:swear:

I can run Rome: Total War on medium, I can run Medieval II's Campaign map, but not battles!

Looking into a new desktop though - that's why I was so eager for minimum specs!

  19. SW01

I'm not bad at all, just lamenting that my current computer would take one look at Empire and run away...:xp:

  20. SW01

    Good find that, Astor!

How are things, anyway? Still on the Empire demo?

  21. SW01

Hmm...I don't know what to make of that news. Mainly due to being a technophobe twit (:xp:). I can see the arguments for prevention of piracy and what-have-you, but I have to say I dislike the idea of the game deactivating when an update's available. Ah well.

    As always, thanks! ;)

Oh, by the way, did you ever get the Hornblower series?

  22. SW01

Astounding! I wonder what it feels like, to discover such a vessel? I'll have to try to remember to follow this story. It would be nice if the guns would be put on display somewhere at some point - maybe the Imperial War Museum. I'd certainly make the trip to see them! $1bn of gold won't do the government any harm either!

And the snow - I've heard that there is a bit starting to lie around Belfast tonight, but we haven't actually seen very much! Where I am, on the coast, we've had snowfall, but it isn't lying. What about you? Is there much in your area?

  23. I'm very well, thanks. I've had much the same recently - my three end of semester exams last week, and now have a couple of weeks off.

  24. Greetings noble sir! Haven't heard from you in a bit - how are things with you?

  25. SW01

Ha! Great find Astor - I'll have to save that one somewhere. As you say, a nice distraction, particularly picking out which characteristic equals which Princeps.

Oh, I'm most like Augustus, apparently!
