My ghz Athlon, GF3, 786 mb RAM system almost cried during that level. It wasn't UNPLAYABLE, but several parts were very choppy, especially the duel with the 2 Shadowtroopers near the beginning. I had bigger issues with figuring out which f*ing way to go. A compass would have helped there. We can go into hyperspace, but we can't use a compass... super. I kept getting spun around in fights, so couldn't tell which valley I'd just come from, or which tiny, submerged hole to crawl through. :-p It was beautiful, though. I've been waiting a long time to see something like that in a FPS.

Well, let me put it this way... I was disappointed with the Force progression in single player. JK1 rocked. You chose what to specialize in, to fit your style, and limited your other options. Not as diverse, but it had a role playing element. JK2... they dropped the entire concept of Light and Dark, and give you things arbitrarily. Level design is probably a lot easier (the player can't just bump up Push and Throw on the lower levels and own EVERYTHING. But I liked the ability to choose where your powers go. But the powers are done a bit better in JK2... Jump makes much more sense, for example.

AFAIK, the AI for single and MP is different, and the saber battles aren't as intricate in MP. BTW, info on spawning things in single player: *COPY AND PASTE* Another thread had info that suited me PERFECTLY. I forgot who posted it, so credits to the Unknown Poster once again. Steps for Saber Practice: 1) Start single player game at your chosen difficulty level 2) Go to console (Shift + ~) - you can do this during the scripted cutscene with Kyle and Jan in the Raven's Claw 3) Enter "map pit" (without the quotes- this can really be any map, but pit seems to be a hidden test/practice map) 4) You will appear facing off against Tavion. Save the game immediately (she won't attack at first). Name it something obvious (JediDuel---Training---Pit---(difficulty level). 5) Defeat Tavion. 6) You can spawn anything in there, after enabling the cheats (devmap works for me). YOu can spawn as many as you want. (See below) I did a few "Bind F(1-8) npc spawn (name)" commands so I could summon things quickly, and I added "Bind H give health" so I could do many duels in a row. The spawn command is "npc spawn (name)" without the quotes. My favorite opponents: Tavion Reborn (the basic one, very weak) Rebornboss Rebornfencer Rebornforceuser Shadowtrooper Shadowtrooper2 And so on. You can spawn pretty much anything, from droids and stormtroopers to bosses. It is also fun to spawn several plain reborn and have an uber-duel. Also, you can spawn friendly NPCs. It just struck me that I never checked if they help you fight... but things like: Luke Jedi Jeditrainer etc

The Jedi NPCs deactivate their sabers when not fighting - I started doing it, too. It is much less annoying when you are doing the puzzles, and if someone walks up to you, attacking or throwing reignites it, as well. As far as turning it off while throwing, imagine a mod where a Jedi is trapped, and another tosses his lightsaber to him. ;-) BTW, I was disappointed to see that you can't Pull the saber from the ground. Anyone know why this is? They do it all the time in the movies, and it beats running around in circles trying to walk over it.

If anything has ever deserved a "w00t", it is this... The PRIMARY draw to this game is saber duels. It is the one thing (besides atmosphere) that JK2 has over EVERYTHING ELSE. I've always wondered why there wasn't a Quick Duel single player game mode option... I suppose it could be done easily in a map or mod. Just keep spawning things to duel - or have buttons along the wall that you hit of Push to spawn things - a boss, a wave of storm troopers, etc.

ENHANCEMENT Cooperative multiplayer. It has been suggested to add objective-based team multiplayer and the like, but hell, you already have a nice set of objective-based levels. Some spots would need some modifying, and more mobs added, but you have the basic levels already made and scripted. :-p

ENHANCEMENT Add slider for decal (bullet holes, saber slash) duration, and perhaps body decay duration. :-p It sucks to have a huge battle with corpses falling everywhere and sabers cutting into everything, only to look around when it is over and have the room be completely empty. Those of us with higher systems always like more eye candy, and those with less powerful systems could disable it altogether by sliding it to 0. :-p

Hm, if that really is the problem, there isn't much room to complain about it, but a better error message should be used. Not a big deal for me, just a little annoying to swap discs all the time. However, several people have this problem who claim that they are using the discs, so I think it goes a little beyond - perhaps a CD hardware error with certain drives not meeting the check?

Hey, I always know what I'm doing. *shifts his eyes* Anyway, simple enough to go in, saber throw at one, direct it through another as it is coming back, hold it for a few blocks, and do a wide swing. That setup can take out 4 guys, easily.

There is an uber mini-mod on JKII.net - it sets all of the slicing and dicing to on, so pretty much every time you cut someone with a saber (depending on where you hit them), something falls off. It is fun to bust into a room, toss the saber, and watch body parts fly. ;-)

Ooh no, I've been found. That damned Usenet past always comes back and haunts me. Hiya. :-)

Excuse my n00bness to the Q3 engine, but is there a console command or some other way to increase the decal/bullet hole/whatever the hell you want to call it lifespan? Or the body "decay"? My system can handle it, and it sucks having an epic battle only to finish with 3 marks on the wall. :-p Or am I missing something obvious in the options? BTW, that advert bar on the right isn't jiving with my browser very well. It covers up part of the forum, until the Smilies box loads... and this server is pretty slow to me. I had to tab over to the new thread box. :-p

Sturmgewehr, that is the best explanation I've heard... One thing people have always suffered through with sci-fi: "Why the hell is [x] doing/having [y]"?

BTW, updated the drivers to the most recent set didn't work for my D-Link/Realtek. *shrugs*

I confirm. I updated my drivers just prior to playing tonight. I had one long, hopeful session, then on rebinding duck it packet errored, then started doing so within a minute of reconnect. WinXP Pro Ath 1.0 GF3 RealTek NIC All that jazz. Going through background programs now. If it IS a problem with WinXP, DX 8.1 may be suspect? JK reqs 8.0, IIRC. At least, that is what the troubleshoot util says.
