  1. *ahem*

Is the argument that Dr. King would not (or even could not) have accomplished what he did without a strong belief in Jesus Christ? If not, then could you please explain what the argument is? And if so, could you please present your case for how you were able to rule every other possible influence, therefore leaving you with this conclusion?

    Thanks in advance.

P.S. Please be aware that I might be tempted to argue that Dr. King was also largely influenced by Gandhi, who was in turn influenced by Jainism, which coincidentally, does not hold that jesus christ is our savior as a tenet.

Well, the question is: Is it ok to judge an entire group of people based on the actions of a few belonging to that group?

I had a debate with someone the day of this thread, and their only argument against Christianity was "Hitler was a christian! That should be evident there that religion drives people nuts and makes them do horrible things!" and "Christians have NEVER done anything for society!"

So I just felt the urge to point out this huge fallacy.

  2. Don't pretend that you can come back to the Swamp after your lengthy sojourn and immediately resume a status of veterancy. The situation has changed immensely - you're nothing now but an outsider, man, a reminder of the distant past.

See that blue star that's underneath my name but not yours? That's the difference between you and me - arbitrary titles mean everything.

    To quote Aslan,

"Do not cite the Deep Magic to me Witch. I was there when it was written."

So it was, and so shall it be! Arbitrary title or not! I'm as every bit as unimportant and irrelevant as the rest of ya's! I demand the same lack of respect that you all get! >=(

  3. With a passionate love and strong foundation in Jesus Christ, William Wilberforce and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. have done more for the advancement of justice than any other character in history, save for Jesus Himself.

Is it fair to say that Christianity is wrong because some nutjobs were insane and believed in the Bible?

Is it possible that the likes of Hitler and other insane leaders were not really Christian? Jesus tells us that you can tell who His real followers are in this scripture: Matthew 7:16-17 " By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit"

Examining the life of Christ, who's fruit is closer to Christ?

(edit) This is not neccessarily for the other thread, because the comparison between Hitler and MLK have been made- I just wanted to make this thread in response to a few chat room sessions I had earlier where people told me repeatedly that Hitler was a Christian.

  7. (A)Even if we assume that Jesus actually existed (another thread, to be sure), (B)Indeed, there are enough contradictions in the gospels alone to question their claims. ©Further, none of the gospels or other NT books were written by authors during the time that Jesus was alleged to have lived.

(D)What we see in Christian mythology is what we see in the religious mythology of other religions ranging from Indian Vedas to the Popul Vu and many oral religious traditions: hero stories and embellishment designed to give the followers of religious cults purpose, history, and order through mythical connection.

(E)Finally, saying that the Christian god exists because it is written in biblical mythology is a circular argument. Since the Bible is alleged by true believers to be the inerrant word of God, this amounts to begging the question and saying God exists because God says he exists.

Biblical mythology is not a good reason to believe in the Christian god.

    (A) Well, Jesus did exist. http://www.allaboutarchaeology.org/evidence-for-jesus.htm - just a simple resource, but I have more. Some Bible-based, others not.

    (B) List me a few of the contradictions in the Gospels, and I will explain them of the best of my ability.

© This is true, none of the Gospels were actually written during the time of Christ, but if a jew from Nazi Germany wrote a book this year about it, that doesn't mean it is false.

    (D) The NT writers and Jesus himself were aware of the other religions, and even spoke of them in the scriptures: 1 John 2:18 "Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. " And 2 John 1:7 "Many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist."

    (E) I agree to an extent, saying he is real "because I say so" is not a good argument. However, it does need to be taken into consideration that the Bible (may) be God's word, because that is what we are ultimately debating.

  8. (Before we get started, I would just like to say that I know I am probably outnumbered, so if someone wants to debate, it may be some time before I can respond, given that there will probably be a good many respond. Also, if you see that someone on your side has already posted your argument point, please do not re-post. It'll drain me time =( )

I was saying that God has shown Himself to us through the life of Christ. Actually revealing His new covenant (the NT in the Bible). No other religious deity can make the claim that it actually came down here to live among us for the purpose of reconciling ourselves back to it.

  9. Zeitgeist actually had numerous flaws and problems even before it went off the deep end with the 9/11 conspiracy stuff. So bad that I felt ashamed{....}require that I actually watch it again. Most of it had to do with the Horus/Sun stuff.

I agree completely, and not just because the movie was against well....my entire life, lol.

There have been many (both religious and non-religious) people refute and tear the movie apart.

  10. proof? ill show u proof! well ill tell u about the fact that i can show u proof, but in all honesty not reli show u any. . .

    So......you are evolution incarnate?

  11. um. arrogant? no sir. absolute scientific fact, yes. i am indeed the baddest dude in all the land. lol.

He's right, you know. I once seen him battle 450 battle droids with a lightsaber, fight his way out of a nest of nasty naboo hornets, save the palace from certain destruction-by-tidal wave, and then get raised from the dead...........

    Wait.......that was ME.........

I have no evidence of his awesomeness. We demand proof, sir! >=(

  12. It's all apart of the illuminati's secret plan to kill 90 %of the world's population and create the NWO.

It's all right there on the alex jones show. Don't say I didn't warn you!

    ........

    What?

  13. Who said anything about a Crusade? You started this topic...

1 Peter 3:15 "But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect"

Oh, I appreciate the scripture, but....

My point was that this thread was not intended to convert the masses. If I were trying to convert someone, I would have went about it a much different way. If you try to tell someone about Hell, the SECOND you mention it, 98% of the time, the person's ears cut off. Their mind shuts down and all of a sudden you are a close-minded Bible-thumper that is living in a fantasy world in their eyes, and your effectiveness goes to zero. That has been my experience anyway.

My approach is much different. People are so insecure, every single one of us. I mean, severely insecure. People want genuine love and caring, and if you show them that with actions, they will put 2 and 2 together most of the time.

  14. I remember you jebby webbys =P

Dath and I have fought many wars, this is true.

Let's not forget the historic LFJA wars in which many lost their lives, and it actually took my life as well.

But don't worry, it got restored, naturally. :p

  15. By all means start a debate thread' date=' if you dislike the "jackasses", do it for the sake of those who sit on the fence. If you think you have sound arguments, I see little reason for [b']not[/b] doing it, with any luck it'll push some down on your side of the fence.

I was actually thinking about it, seeing the heat this thread ignited. But if you want an semi-in-depth look at why I believe the way I do, there is a short essay in "The OTHER existence of God" thread, right here in the senate chambers.
