Sorry, not trying to take anything away from you s/o ff ctf flipkick fans, but I prefer to keep my Star Wars & Kung Fu separate.

Too many bad memories of people using nothing but flipkicks in JK2... the saber became irrelevant. Not my cup of tea.

Golly, you must be disappointed. Too bad this massive "majority of Duel mode players" remains mostly silent in your defense. (Maybe it's just past their bedtimes?)

Tell me about it... I'm 34 and most of my contemporaries think it's pretty lame. Heck most think Star Wars and even science fiction in general is pretty laughable. But you'd know that already if you didn't spend x amount of hours "almost everyday for a year or so" playing with 14 year olds.

Well since I don't know Michael Jackson personally, I suppose you ARE the next best thing to an expert. But once in a blue moon? From your own description, it sounded a heck of a lot more frequent than that.

As for what is and isn't a big deal... which category do you think someone daring to attack your poor little "virtual Jedi" whilst he was in mid-bow falls under?

In some communities, nigger, spick, chink & kyke are "common place terminology." Why don't you take that ball and run with it? Impress us all with what a super kewl d00d you really are.

Honestly, would your "vengeance" have been any less sweet had you beat your opponent purely through repeated victory? Perhaps your "trash talk" is nothing more than a crutch for lack of talent? More than likely, it's just an immature self-indulgence to gain you "props" amongst the 14 year olds.

    I'm not impressed.

Where does subjecting everyone else on the server to your "trash talk" with expressions like "b!tch" and "gh3y" fall into the "respectful" equation?

Frankly I don't care if this guy gouged out your eyes and shot your dog; retaliating via the chat command is juvenile, nothing to be proud of, and the worst example of "sportsmanship" I've heard.

You know what most people would say is lame? An adult playing video games. You want even lamer? Same adult spewing profanity, prejudice and abusive language because he lost his temper while playing. Worse still? Doing all the above fully knowing you're most likely in the presence of children.

BTW, just because other people share your homophobia, that doesn't justify it.

  9. On Hoth you can also "ride" the ATST... for whatever that's worth.

As for how many characters in multiplayer? Hmm... hard to say for the xbox version. Basically all the same models/skins from JK2, plus a smattering of new ones from JA (such as the Tusken Raider) - roughly 50-60 different characters (at least double that if you count team skins).

    Color me surprised.

Some of us don't make presumptions (or frankly give a hoot) about the gender of our online opponents. If you or the crowd you hang out with has this sort of childish pre-occupation, that's YOUR cross to bear.

FYI, tossing around expressions like "pussywhipped" or "stupid ass mother****ing fanbois" not only is inappropriate to these forums, but also solidifies the notion that you're nothing more than an immature cretin, trying desperately to sound "tough." Rather than insulting anyone here, you're just giving us an opportunity to laugh at your expense.

Thats the only explaination i can think of :amidala:

Ahh... that makes sense (though I'd still argue that huge floating team icon over people's heads should be clue enough ;)).

I was just concerned people were still buying into that "Jawas are magically indestructible" myth.

Again, the mute/squelch/profanity filter really appeals to me, I'm just curious though... can this be run server-side only, or does it require clients to have the patch as well?

Lastly, as far as the previous discussion goes regarding this thread's title; soon as we have instagib and LMS (last man standing) gameplay options, I'll call it hardcore. Right now it just sounds like JA with flipkicks... whooptie doo. ;)

I must admit I'm intrigued with the profanity filter of xMod, but what's this nonsense about banning the Jawa model? Also, is the amsleep, etc. crap really necessary?

  14. Sorry if this is an unpopular answer, but frankly I much preferred the old format for the website. It seemed less cluttered and easier to navigate. I also greatly appreciated being able to list maps by rating, author, etc..

I couldn't agree more. I've lost count how many times I've bit my tongue rather than criticize Eldritch for his attitude. Case in point was that "Trade Federation Droid Control Ship" map by Breath. Now I don't know Breath personally, but I thought Eldritch's comments regarding his map were ridiculously arrogant and hypercritical, especially given his own, dare I say it, mediocre contributions.

I also agree with several of the other posters, screenshots (where appropriate) should be a must have. Indeed, for me, it was one of the original selling points of pcgamemods - I could take a good look at a map before committing it to download. Also, especially for items that aren't applicable for screenshots, an extensive readme/description would be nice.

Lastly, the distinction between the various categories such as "mod" or "skin" could stand to be a little more rigorous. Too often I'll glance by category and find things completely out of place (or simply missing that IMHO should be there).

All said, I greatly appreciate your site Sergio! Please don't mistake these minor criticisms as anything but suggestions from an ardent fan. Thanks for the valuable service you afford us!

  15. A little self-indulgence (quoting myself from another post, on another forum, from a galaxy far far away)...

Personally, I respect everyone equally until they go out of their way to prove themselves unworthy. Usually it's how they conduct themselves using the game's chat function (profanity and/or needlessly insulting or abusive comments). Sometimes it's simply the way they choose to identify themselves (as in "Hitler' or "KKK" - actual names people have used on my server I fully suspect with the intention of having racist/bigoted impact). It's never how they actually play the game.

I can't begrudge someone for attacking me while my "saber is down" or "chat window is up" - if I put myself in some kind of vulnerable position, it was a conscious and voluntary decision. I'm not so self-centered/egotistical to insist that everyone on the server has to curb their playing style just to cater to my personal choices.

I've also said the following before, but I think it bears repeating. This is my philosophy:

Anyone who purchased this game, I assume to be a fan of both Star Wars and combat-oriented action.

Anyone who joins an online server, I assume is there to play.

Anyone who whines, complains, or insults other people excessively, I assume to be a poor-sport and immature.

    I didn't pay $49.95 for a 3D, Quake-driven MP bitch engine.

BTW, totally off-topic, but WTF is up with the Jawa model bans??? Was not this issue resolved already?

    Last but not least...

I don't know with any certainty Amidala's gender... but I'll say this much... it's rare to see threads from a male poster with as much attention to spelling/grammar/punctuation.

I'm constantly amazed some of you chuckleheads can even spell Star Wars right. ;)

  16. IMHO, this is quite simply the best use of the Star Wars license since the original trilogy. I was blown away. The attention to detail is extraordinary and the story is rich and mature.

I'm very very impressed. KotOR has seriously raised my expectations for all future gaming experiences. It's just that well made.

My only complaint: I WANT MORE! :D

PS: Tip for those just starting out... pick soldier at the start and don't level up past level 2 till you get to Dantooine... a level 18 Jedi Guardian kicks some major ass! :)

  17. I use the same provider as Amidala from Chop Shop (www.jediservers.com). When the word came down that we were allowed to raise our sv_maxRate from 5000 to 6000, I jumped at the chance. I was under the impression maxRate would only benefit those who could take advantage of it and not penalize those who couldn't.

Much to my dismay, my personal performance went into the toilet (I'm a dialup, 56k user). My pings didn't radically increase, but my packet losses sure enough appeared to. The game became virtually unplayable.

I spoke with my service rep. about it, and he informed me that by increasing sv_maxRate to 6000, my client/server discrepancy was now 2k over the default modem setting of 4000.

I've since lowered the server's maxRate to 4000. My connections have never been more stable or consistent.

As mentioned in other posts, I have experimented with sv_fps (settings of 60, 40, 25 & 20) and did not see a marked difference in collision detection (not that I was personally experiencing much of a problem in the first place). I didn't realize at the time (been informed since) that altering my snaps was necessary to take advantage of it. That said, my initial research implies that raising snaps above the default (20) could cause problems for modem users. :(

I'd appreciate more input from someone with a comprehensive understanding of networking where to go from here. Any knowledgeable advice would be most appreciated.

    Thanks!

I don't want to be flamed, but this seems to happen sometimes...

Shouldn't be much of a mystery why you're occasionally flamed - not that I'm endorsing it. If you really want to avoid being flamed, I'd consider removing expressions such as "stupid" and "fun-hater" from your posting vocabulary. In other words, don't troll.

  19. Master William, you're on record for defending "Honor Codes" on other threads (presumably out of consideration for those that like them), yet you accuse those of us opposed to kill trackers (something you yourself admit to being "annoying at times") as "fun-haters?"

Do you fail to see the hypocrisy in that?

What's so noble about knowingly annoying other guests, especially if it's potentially introducing lag? If that's honestly your idea of "fun" please do us both a favor and stay off my server.

IMHO (keeping in mind I'm no coder/network specialist), getting the best in-game results appears as dependent on your hardware (video card, cpu, etc.) as your online connection. I suspect most people complaining about "buggy" hit-detection are lacking in one or more of those areas (and/or their opponents/server host are).

There are those who may argue things seem less "accurate" than they appeared in JK2. Personally, as I see it, there's more "stuff" going on in Academy (isn't that why most of us bought it?), so it only seems fitting there's bound to be more "stuff" being crammed down the pipe (locally and over the 'net).

Frankly, truly elite competitive gaming over the internet strikes me as an ill-conceived idea in the first place. IMO, that's best left to Local Area Networks with evenly matched machines.

For the rest of us, whacking some virtual jedi "d00dz" should just be a fun diversion in-between doing homework and/or paying off your mortgage. Taking it more seriously than that will probably just lead to a premature heart attack, stroke, hemorrhoids, or acne.

    Just my two cents! :D

This is just my personal opinion, and take it for what it's worth seeing as I'm no genius coder/networking specialist, but it seems to me that getting the best results in-game are as much dependent on your video/cpu hardware as is your online connection. I suspect most people complaining about "buggy" hit-detection are lacking in one of those areas (or their opponents/server host is).
