  1. Hi everyone, I'm sure many people are anxious about the remote possibility of a brand new JK game - therefore I thought it would be irresponsible to title the thread "New JK Game" since that is really what its all about. I'm a high fan of JK, however after Academy (which promised much but delivered little more than Outcast) I wanted more. Since the release of Episode III has also sparked further interest in JK - I thought the topic of a new game would be up. I'm unsure if it was as the search feature was disabled by admin/mods when I went to post. I have actually decided to write a sort of Proposal/petition for another game - it won't be complaining to LucasArts to "make another JK game but better one" - thats where the project proposal comes in. Where everyone else comes in is actually helping me determine what (you) the community want to see by answering these questions. Please be kind and answer the questions rather than writing me an essay response of what you want as its hard to document that sort of thing... After completing the project proposal (which I have found difficult to write admittedly) I will circulate a pdf version of it and a petition. Its pointless to actually send the project proposal into LucasArts since they simply refuse to read them - possibly due to the high volume of low quality ones they get. Here are the questions for now - I may need to delve further with more in the near future. Please consider your answer very carefully. If you believe there is another question/or element considered in the project proposal please feel free to email me (lestatc@hotmail.com) with the title Jedi Knight Proposal as the title. Questions: 1) Which element of a game do you believe is the most important (graphics, story, gameplay etc)? 2) What do you believe should be added to JK combat (more stances/styles, blocking button, realistic movement restrictions etc)? 3) What other element (minus graphic and physics upgrades) would you like to see added to the new game in both SP and MP (interactive/destroyable maps, co-op, more personalised character)? 4) Which character(s) from the entire series would you most like to see/play as? 5) What element from the game should be removed or revised? 6) Which of the JK games do you believe had the best storyline (JK: DF2, JK:JO, JK:JA) abd why was it better/more involving? Thanks for your time, the more responses I get will make writing the proposal much faster and posting it. It would also mean it can be revised faster... - Lestat

  4. The FX series cards are nice, you shouldn't have any problems with any games out at the momenth.
  5. If you're after a vid card with 256MB RAM (DDR I'm sure ) I would recommend getting a PCI express version as opposed to an AGP. PCI express will be able to utilise the capacity better than AGP because it has twice the throughput. You will notice the difference. Be warned though, make sure that you have an excellent power-supply, especially for the Geforce 6 series. They are power hungry monsters which can give you a headache. Also I (and many others) are trying to resolve issues that many games have with the Geforce 6 series. My only issue actually has to do with the Unreal engine (which Republic Commando uses); which crashes the system on exit (and rarely mid-game). ThisI have been told though is a driver issue and should be resolved in the next driver release from nVidia (currently using 66.93). But anyway, have fun with the new pc, games will crank on that thing.
  6. Firstly I'd just like to correct you (not to be rude), but all video cards have a GPU. There is simply a matter of quality and how many (Nvidia and ATI both work with multiple GPU's on their cards). Your explanation of what they are is pretty much spot on though - however when the GPU can't handle it (Anti-Aliasing for example) it palms off the load to the CPU - which is when you'll start to lose frames. Having as much RAM as possible will also assist in this; unless you are running Windows 98 since it can only utilise something like 128MB of RAM. Anymore than that and you are simply getting negative results from it. So if you are using Win98 and have enough RAM to play the game, I would suggest getting either Windows 2000 (if you can - its very stable and uses less RAM than XP) or a copy of XP (Home or Professional). Thanks people. Athlon 64-bit 3500+ Asus A8n-SLI 1GB Corsair DDR RAM (dual-channel) 128MB 6600GT PCI-e
  7. Personally I agree with your statements/ideas. If you want to explore the universe, go play Star Wars Galaxies (if you can - I heard it is out in America and not here in Australia), if you want to bust some jedi moves play this. I think you're right about the weapons, they feel so - boring. Done already in the other 300+ shooters out there. I am sick of game consoles; they are useless and they are the benchmark for games for some reason. However if you want co-op single player (sounds a bit odd) join the co-op forum, god knows I want it - but the more you look for a way to do it it doesn't seem worth it. Now that colour slider, phwoar! Awesome idea in my opinion. I don't think the saber mods out there for Jk2 are really worth it; a dime a dozen basically. A colour slider will stop people using those stupid mods. The only other thing I would like to see in JKA would be some of the old force powers - Destruction, Deadly sight, throw (objects at players) and blindness. And maybe a bit more thought into some of the multi-player maps (some just felt boring in JK2). But either way, I'm looking forward to it.
  8. Are the release dates going to be world wide? As in, in Spring (northern hemisphere - September/October) and fall here (Australia)? I don't want to wait like I am for bloody Galaxies to come out.
  9. An apology for the long posts; I'm obviously very bored in my college classes and desperate for a co-op mode. I should do my test now... I hate network administration.
  10. Understandable that there is a problem inhereted with the fact that resources have to be shared (played Jedi Power Battles lately?), however if scripted events can be utilised in multiplayer for JK3 then it is more than likely the process would be a simpler one than Jk2. Simpler - not simple. I myself would be determined to find a way to do it with JK3 (since number 2 scripted events are something unknown in Multi). I would also like to note that I think (in my opinion) that AI enemies in Multi are completely stupid and despite the fact that it can kill you; it doesn't exactly co-operate with teammates and doesn't evaluate problems (being outnumbered and gathering help) which single player enemies do. I say this because the Reborn fight differently in SP and MP. So I assume that the AI is different and therefore that to simply convert the maps would mean the AI would be somewhat ludicrously stupid. I'm checking out how the problem may be resolved; but it seems to be a rather large job with a payoff that might not work properly. Other issues I have thought of for co-op are player limits, weapon restrictions (possibly to the saber only - they are jedi after all), and cut scene interaction. When taking in these issues, simply making a TC mod with co-op seems a far sight easier.
  11. Alright, this may be a bit abstract but bear with me. I'm not a programmer or modder, I just thought I'd fart-arse around at a lan one day. In Moh:AA (Medal of Honour: Allied Assault for those who don't know) which is using the Q3 engine I noticed my mate playing the Omaha beach mission SP. I've ALWAYS wanted to do it co-op, so I typed connect - his IP. Now it may be stupid but I did in fact get in. However I killed him accidentally because of a spawning problem (a spawn frag basically because it was a scripted sequence where he couldn't move and I took his place). Now I know it isn't JK so my question is basically why can't we just add an extra spawn to these maps. Or has this concept just been shut down already? Call me stupid if you must, it can't hurt to just have a go...
