  1. Yeah, the Cantina seems the best forum fit for a new one-year thread Looks like we nearly reached 1,900 posts. As for the new movie, I haven't even seen it yet. Was hoping to get together with my local FanForce for it, but we probably barely exist as a group now. I'll wait for the new thread to post about how my New Year started.
  2. Still doing better Sunday night than Wednesday night, both individually and as the team, and it probably helps that I have a very good bowler on my Sunday night team to get advice from. UBA weekend coming up next weekend, and I know I'm running brackets for one of the tournaments that will hold an event in conjunction with that.
  3. My bowling has hit the skids since I had a broken front tooth pulled to (hopefully) make way for an implant. Getting a deal on the implant b/c I'm having it done in a dental school setting (they run it like a private practice, but the dentists are just out of dental school).
  4. In an ironic twist, the Cubs were eliminated from the postseason by the Mets yesterday rather than winning the World Series over Miami (which had not yet had an MLB franchise when the movie was released).
  5. Hiccup last Wednesday night w/ a 490, but after a 612 Sunday night and another 578 last night, my two league averages are converging.
  6. I seem to be getting used to bowling two leagues, because I only missed Wednesday night's score by one pin tonight. EDIT: Oh, and I managed to kill some of the spam here before you guys could report it tonight.
  7. Projected year-end post count after September: 1,778 The upset here is that I actually logged on on the first of a month and remembered to calculate the projected total. So far, so good in my Wednesday night league, anyway. I'm averaging 181 after four weeks and have had a game 200+ in each of them. The only night so far I've been under 500 was my first night of my Sunday league. Lanes play really differently between the two nights, b/c I find I have to use a stronger ball Sunday night. Still, my teams are both up around 50% points won/lost, so I'll take that.
  8. Decent start to league...I have a full team of five, have averaged 180 for the first two weeks, and won as many points as lost through two weeks. I might be in a Sunday night league this year, too. http://news.yahoo.com/star-wars-original-theatrical-cut-to-be-081934213.html ^ Disney is re-releasing the original cuts of the OT...yes, the one where Han shoots first.
  9. Boy, I'm behind Projected year-end post count after August: 1,755 Finally got my check for working state tournament last week, and it's for enough to cover a new ball, if I want one. I'll have to see what works tonight, though (first night of winter league). I'll have at least one new teammate this year, b/c one of my first friends in bowling (we're talking from back in the late 80s here) is joining my team. Still need a fifth, but bowling with four is certainly better than bowling with just three.
  10. Projected posts to thread at year-end after July: 1,716 Pretty quiet for me...taking advantage of comp'ed luxury box tickets to see the Brockton Rox (local collegiate summer league baseball team) Tuesday night.
  11. The New England contingent at the Junior Gold tournament in Chicago did very well: One of the Westgate bowlers just missed the top 64 in under-20 boys, and a bowler I know from New Bedford made match play in that age group, but the topper is that a bowler from western Mass. won the whole thing in the under-15 boys age group, and did well in the Youth Open tournament out there earlier, as well. The kid's title match will be on CBS Sports Network next month.
  12. Projected year-end post count after June: 1,674 Not too much planned for the Fourth weekend, unless my bestie is doing something Sunday.
  13. Bowled in a no-tap fundraiser today, purely for fun. If anything else, it was a chance to bowl with bowlers I don't normally bowl with.
  14. "Summer project" for the blog started: It now has a Facebook page, and my posts will be going on the page instead of my own timeline soon.
  15. First weekend completely to myself and without having to be at the bowling alley in a while. My state tournament obligation actually ended today, as well, with my blog post about the official results. As I expected, Westgate bowlers won everything except scratch doubles and scratch all-events. One of my friends said he'll be getting a check for $900 next week...he was a member of the winning handicap team and bowled well in his minor events, as well.
  16. /me has been slacking Projected posts at year-end after May: 1,728 Got my laptop back pretty much when expected and ran brackets last Monday night. One more night of brackets tomorrow night before I can call my "summer vacation" started. Pretty full weekend this weekend, but not nearly as stressful, imagined or otherwise, as the state tournament weekends were. My "first nephew" (the one I was first aware that I had) graduated from high school Friday, watched a cyberbuddy from the bowling forums win a tournament in my home house Saturday afternoon before my association's Hall of Fame dinner, and then my association's annual meeting this morning. I want to say we had more of the general membership at this meeting than we've had when we put out notice of it online. Finally, I can cross off another item from my sports bucket list: The Information Age finally has a Triple Crown winner. I hadn't seen a horse win it since grade school, so I could fully appreciate American Pharoah's win yesterday.
  17. Laptop shipped back to my Best Buy store today. This is where I feel fortunate the Coke league wouldn't bowl a weather make-up week on Memorial Day, b/c that bought me an extra week for the repairs.
  18. Barely made it out of state tournament alive... My personal calamity started Sat. morning when my backpack fell out of my brother's car. Said backpack had my laptop, which suffered a cracked touchscreen, rendering it useless for running brackets. I missed running brackets for the morning squad while taking the laptop to Best Buy for repairs. Meanwhile, one of our new association managers brought in his late father's laptop, which had T-Brac on it, so I ran brackets the rest of the day. That wasn't the end of it, however: On Sunday, the inkjet printer I had been using with the borrowed laptop decided to run out of ink, and I was fortunate to get a payout sheet for the second squad. I decided not to attempt to nurse the printer through the last squad of the tournament, which disappointed some of the bowlers, but I think everyone understood. On the balance, the whole of the tournament was pretty good, and the state board had no complaints about our president, who was the primary tournament director. The management of the bowling alley treated the board to dinner after the last squad, so at least that was a good way to end my first state tournament experience.
  19. One more weekend of state tournament and I'm a "free man"...all kidding aside, it's been a great tournament so far, and the goodness continued yesterday when a team of some of my friends shot a 3,662 series (five-man), which was just a pin shy of the state tournament record. The last game included a 300 game from one of our local association's Hall of Famers, and I got the last strike of that on YouTube. It was just amazing to watch them, particularly their last game (1,309).
  20. Projected year-end post count after April: 1,773 Shorter month, and the projected total only drops by three month to month, indicating to me the posting pace has been pretty steady. Halfway home with state tournament, with the scholarship fund receiving $300+ this weekend from my efforts. Probably going to be a lot of walk-ins on the last weekend, I'm told, so it ain't over yet (to borrow a line from Leia). The old CompuServe Rebel Alliance has a group on Facebook, and we found a couple of old members yesterday, with a possible lead on a third. Although I wasn't officially a member of one of the main-line squadrons until much later, I do know a lot of the "old-timers" from my days in one of the independent squadrons, and I've been able to assist the admin in finding them.
  21. Somehow, I survived the first weekend of state tournament! We had a pretty good weekend, highlighted by 1999 USBC Masters champion Brian Boghosian putting up a set in his team event that would have been the house record until a couple of months ago. We had a big group come in from the western part of the state, and they went pretty big in brackets, the "house cut" from which I decided to donate to the bowling alley's junior scholarship fund.
  22. Forgive me for using a line from the prequels, but "This is where the fun begins." (State tournament starts tomorrow)
  23. K_K and Cracken, not every non-Asian woman runs away from Asian men. One of my younger cousins (daughter of a cousin, to be specific) has an Asian boyfriend, who I knew from bowling. He happens to be very respectful, so I'm happy she's w/ him.
  24. Projected year-end post count after March: 1,776 That's the spirit!
  25. I seem to be barely breaking 500 in my league this season, but the big Thursday night league has not only had a 900 series one month ago tonight, but five honor scores tonight. I must be in the wrong league.
