  1. Y'know, I'm never entirely sure about ball controversies. End of the day, it's a ball... There's always someone who complains every world cup about the ball...

To be honest I would hope FIFA would pay more attention to video replay controversies. Seems like everyone in Group C got ****'d by refs.

  2. Since this room seems to be a lot more active, I'm curious as to who knows of the racebending controversy for The Last Airbender movie? I'm a big supporter of the movement, so feel free to ask me any questions ;D

For the uninitiated: Avatar: The Last Airbender was an American created tv show based and steeped deeeeeeeeeepppp in Asian culture. In the translation to the big screen, all leading roles were initially cast as White. After protests, the villain/anti hero of the series is recast as an Indian.

racebending.com has more information, and depending on how many people are engaged in this thread, I'll copypasta some of my discussion yesterday, where my friend argued about how I was being a racist for wanting fair casting practices... :p

  3. vuvuzelaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. It's bloody annoying, but at the same time I don't have to deal with it so I actually find it rather humorous.

As far as soccer/futbol goes, it's the idea that you can score at any given moment that makes it exciting, not the constant scoring. I used to hate watching futbol, but if you find a good team to root for and a couple pals to kick some brews back with (and a bar full of the opposition), the culture'll soon ingrain itself into you. :D

  4. Why hasn't there been a thread about this yet? :D

Who ya cheerin on? Who's gonna make it to the finals?

I'm rooting for USA and France, where I am currently residing until the end of July. After both of those teams lose, I guess we'll see where I bandwagon ;)

  5. Blue Velvet is amazing just because it's in the David Lynch tradition of mind****s.

As far as Boondock Saints goes, as much as I enjoy it, I can see where people would criticize it. Its sequel epitomizes the series' attempts to be "cool."

I'm paraphrasing here, but the review of Boondock Saints 2 that I enjoyed the most (and what I think holds true for the first) is: "Boondock Sainst 2 takes us back to the wonderful time of 1999, when every third director thought he was the next Quentin Tarentino.

And as an anecdote, a creative writing professor tasked his students with creating a story where there were no guns. All the guys failed. The point: What makes Tarentino films memorable is the dialogue.

  6. Wow, it's been foreeeevahhhhhh. Hellooooo all. How's everyone been?

So, long story short, I have aspirations to be a rapper/hip hop art-teest (and president of the US, but more on that later.) At any rate, one of my favorite rappers has put out a mixtape competition, and I decided to enter.

(This BBCode requires its accompanying plugin to work properly.)

    Voila! Hope you guys enjoy.

    /end shameless self promotion

    cheers from Paris :)

ps that's really my sexy mug in the video.

  7. It looks good to me. The movie right now looks entirely cg to me for some reason. I think it might just be how odd the characters' heads look in those helmets, and the physics of some of their movements... but eh. :p it looks baller either way.

  8. WHO. DOES. NUMBER. 2. WORK. FOR?

Can't help but think of that line...

anyway. I work for the English Dept at my college... and then hopefully a law firm internship in the fall...going abroad in the spring... coming back to work... then law school/Capitol Hill? :D
