Thanks, I already have a scan of the Loom FM-Towns cover, so I'll deal with that at some point. The FOA comic book covers were painted by Dave Dorman, as opposed to William Eaken, who painted the game's cover. They are a slightly out of scope for this project, at least as long as there are bigger fish to fry.

On the upside, here's another round of begging for scans. With the recent find of the photo of the original "Outlaws" painting (yeah, I only found a photo, not the painting itself), I think I'll tackle that one next. I'm still missing a good 600 dpi scan of a (good condition) Outlaws box. Both the US release and the UK "LucasArts Classics" release would be of interest, as both have relatively little text on them:

Furthermore, there's a double-page ad for the game in issue #38 of the US magazine PC Gamer (July 1997), which might be useful as well:

    Anybody able to help out?

I have the ad sheet for Outlaws which doesn't have the bullet holes, but it's in storage so I won't be able to scan it for a couple of weeks.

  2. The MI2 CD version is just the floppy version with copy protection removed (which also removes lite mode since that and the copy protection screen is in the same "room") and with the ability to run it from CD while storing save games on the HDD. Unlike MI1, there are no separate EGA and VGA releases of MI2.

That video you posted up there just runs MI2 in EGA mode along with the PC speaker soundtrack, which lacks most of the music, but where the end credits medley is different. The Adlib and MT-32 soundtracks are both complete.

That's true, but I think also the nature of the music itself. It was more layered, more going on so even if they had got someone to convert them specifically I feel like the difference would have been more readily noticeable (and of course the Amiga version of MI2 has quite a lot of missing music)

With all the loading and disk swapping between screens, most of the imuse stuff must have fallen apart. Hard to sync the transitions from outside Woodtick to the boats when you have to replace disks going to and fro.

  4. MI2 is safer in that respect. Both the animation where you nail Stan in the coffin and the one where you replace the flags at the spitting contest are run at 30 fps. The only place where the game sets the framerate to unlimited is when the wheel at the alley casino starts spinning. The script then lowers the framerate to make the wheel spin slower until it stops.

  5. Yeah, having two different arrangements of each piece was a really odd decision to make. You can "fix" it by messing with the rips of the CD audio tracks when playing in ScummVM, though. Just double up the good arrangements or make the second ones silent.

  6. When I looked into this thread, I thought I'd be reading about Loom. Instead I found another discussion about political correctness in Mi2 and people talking about pretend nazis. The last few posts were people trying to continually get the last word in, which only served to aggravate the others. I deleted all of that to get things back on track because I honestly thought you would all take the hint and move on. I'm sorry for overestimating you.

  7. Yeah, not too happy about the SEs effectively replacing the originals. The most revolutionary part of MI2 was the dynamic music, and there's no official version out there with any of that intact. They couldn't even record the loops they did for classic mode correctly.
