  1. Please do not mention sites that contain pirated software. This could get the site shut down, and it's a violation of the site rules. Thread closed. --Jae
  2. You could do Escape Pod for the main podcast and then do Force Choke for a 'we want to Force Choke the devs for doing X' section.
  3. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Diwali (if late), and Happy New Year! Hope 2014 is a good one for everyone!
  4. What's great about the prequels: 1.The Darth Maul lightsaber scenes. 2. Yoda lightsaber scenes 3. Palpatine maneuvering the Senate and manipulating Anakin What sucks about the prequels: 1-9,052: Jar-jar 9,053: Hayden's (lack of) acting ability 9,054. Using a kid for Anakin in TPM and making him unbelievably goody-two-shoes. 9,055: the lack of anesthesia while Padme gives birth. Ships can go to hyperspace but they haven't figured out how to do a darn epidural? Sheesh. 9,056: Padme dying from a 'lack of will to live'. She just had 2 babies, and she couldn't bring herself to live for the 2 infants she bore for the last 9-ish months (or whatever is the gestation length for Naboo women). She could have been too burned or suffered too much heat stroke or had some kind of Force sickness from the Emperor (secretly behind Anakin's back), but no, we had to have this stupid lame-arse excuse. The midichlorians didn't bother me--I thought of them more like mitochondria than anything else. Mitochondria power our cells, midichlorians power the Force. The Force is still mystical enough to work for me even with the midichlorian explanation and/or excuse.
  5. First, get an eye exam. Second, breathe! Here's the tip a good friend of mine taught me when I had trouble with getting the car into first gear. The clutch controls it all. You can have the accelerator petal floored and the engine revving at max, but until you let the clutch out, the car won't move. So, the trick is to give it a lot of gas at first, and let the clutch out extremely slowly. Practice this in a huge parking lot like I did--a college or mall parking lot on a very early Saturday or Sunday morning works great. You want to find a flat surface so you don't have to worry about rolling up or down hills. My friend and I practiced this a lot--give it a lot of gas, let the clutch out extremely slowly until the engine engages, and go. Do this a ton of times, and you'll eventually be able to use less gas. After you do it a lot of times, you'll get a better feel for the clutch, and you'll be able to do that part faster, too. Hope that helps if you aren't already cruising around like a pro! The reason to own an automatic is so that people like me with really crappy knees can drive. When I had my left knee replaced 3 years back, I was able to drive the automatic minivan but not the manual Honda Civic we had--I could only use the right leg to drive. I just had the right knee replaced so I can't drive for another week and a half, but if I had an absolute dire emergency (like my kid was dying and the ambulance couldn't come for an hour), I theoretically could drive with my left leg. You have to have 2 good legs with manual, but only 1 for automatic. It's also a good choice for people who have hand, arm, or shoulder problems from injuries or bad arthritis since they don't have to shift the gears. Also, having driven in Chicago rush hour for a few years, I can tell you that automatic was far more convenient and a lot less annoying than braking and shifting into first gear non-stop for an hour or more.
  6. I love Renaissance art, so I kept up with him by email, on his blog and Twitter @3pipenet. After awhile, we ended up connecting with other people who loved the Italian masters, and I friended them on Twitter as well. One of his Twitter friends yesterday sent out a gorgeous photo of a Michelangelo sculpture in a tweet, and in the reply, I copied his Twitter handle because I knew it was something he would also enjoy seeing. She realized I hadn't heard what happened, and so she sent me a DM and broke the terrible news. The art history community is stunned by his death as much as we are. If you are on Twitter and check the hashtag #RIPHasan, you'll find links to some lovely tributes. You'll also find some amazing art history websites. Edit: @tk: ROFL at that pic! How perfect!
  7. Hi! I messaged him on Facebook and got this answer: "Sure if he wants to release a new KSE, no problem. I'm surprised he was able to find all the perl modules. I released them a long time ago but they were buried somewhere in the KSE thread." So, go for it--please give him credit for the original work, though! :)

  8. I have him on Facebook--I'll send him a message and link here. :)

  9. I just found out today that Astrotoy7 passed away on October 27th. From what I understand, the death was very quick and unexpected, though he may have had a longstanding illness that contributed. Hasan Nayazi was only 37 years old. I know he could be controversial here. Sometimes, he inspired me. Sometimes, he drove me nuts with snarky comments. Sometimes, I wanted to reach out and hug him for his encouragement and support during some of the very hard parts of life I've went through, particularly back in 2010. He loved gaming and was passionate about computers. When Vista came out, he figured out the fix to get KOTOR to work with the updated OS (or regressed, depending on your point of view). He also was a part of the original group that set up the folding@home for Team LFN that helps link computers to contribute spare down time computer power to research. His latest passion was studying and writing about Renaissance art and Raphael in particular. As I understand through twitter feeds, the funeral will be held in Melbourne, Australia, but I don't know any other details at this time. My sympathies and heart go out to his family. Rest in peace, Hasan. I will miss you.
  10. Chains work even better. I heartily approve of a caffeine IV. You make time for your entertainment, whatever that might be. I gave up broadcast TV to game. I've given up a fair bit of gaming over the summer to go to different places with the family and to garden. During the winter, I'll be able to game more again. While I was in school, I had no time for gaming during mid-terms and finals, but I had a lot more over break. It comes in cycles like that sometimes.
  11. I'm sure with the Syrian poison attacks, a crappy economy, the approach of the debt limit ceiling, and implementation of Obamacare that the President will take time out of day to address this life-altering petition.
  12. The battle was going on in Congress and the court system long before war broke out, and was very much a states' rights vs. federal rights issue. Slavery was actually on a decline prior to the start of the Civil War, although slavery had a definitive part as one of the causes. I think the historical discussion is far more interesting than the movie in this thread.
  13. I love Labrador and Golden retrievers. Best dogs ever.
  14. I've been reading gardening books--we're growing a huge one in our backyard this year.
  15. I called my mom. My family got me a new computer for me for combo Mother's Day and Anniversary.
  16. Gardening books at the moment. I have a gigantic one this year.
  17. Moved from Holowan to the Feedback forum. Folks, let's remember that KOTOR, while dearly loved by all of us here, is now a 10 year old game. Not nearly as many people are playing it as in years past, and the number of modders have dropped as a result. Also, we literally have members from all over the world. What is daytime for you is night time on the other side of the planet, and folks are asleep when you post, so they can't answer immediately. This is also a time when a lot of people are on vacation, doing exams for school, graduating, attending weddings, and so on. Please give everyone the benefit of the doubt and give them time to answer before getting upset. Also, for anyone offended by a post, please report it instead of getting mad and posting back. We are a friendly crowd, if quieter than in years past. Let's be a good example of it. Thanks.
  18. Enjoy, be safe, have a beer if age appropriate, wear a cup. These things are important.
  19. I do Kashyyyk up until the point where I can get Jolee. Then I go to Tatooine to get HK. Their comments in game are epic.
  20. Pac-Man, Adventure, Pit-fall, Raiders, Empire Strikes Back, Asteroids, Space Invaders, and, of course, Circus Atari, with its utterly insane 'splat' sound that made me laugh every time a clown face-planted. Ah, the memories!!
