  1. I'm a CRT purist (oh, how I HATE the words "native resolution"), so hopefully someone else will chime in soon.

    :clap2:

Down with inferior and unfinished, but flashy, technology.

Regarding the original poster's query - I'd say wait. Vista's just been released meaning it's still got issues, and a lack of game support (my friend can't get Football Manager running on his(he's now suicidal)).

Not to mention the lack of DX10 cards currently on the market...

Oh and the fact that Intel's core2duos (you should really get one of these) are going to drop in price come April.

As mentioned, there's no advantage warranty-wise over getting a package, as you can get pretty good warranties on the individual components as standard. In fact, if you're anything above an average PC user(ie. Word/some music/browsing) you'll probably only run into problems with the warranty, as most of them completely stifle you. You can't even upgrade without paying them to do it for you with a lot of them. :nut:

And be sure to avoid though 'recovery CDs' someone mentioned. They get on my tits too.

Unfortunately though, you seem set on buying a package. Ah well.

Have you considered asking a mate to just assemble the computer hardware for you for a small fee? It'll certainly be cheaper than buying a brand and you'll get to keep your laziness. :)

That's just my 2 pennies, good luck.

  2. It depends what you mean by "playing". And I mean that in all seriousness.

This is the excellent point I was going to make.

There are tons of servers up at any one time (not including empty ones) and there are probably ~200+ people online at any one time. (Just an estimate, I haven't actually counted.)

I found 800 'playing' on the all seeing eye just there, and this isn't quite peak time (many Americans just coming out of school/aren't back from work).

  3. Was it really that bad? I love 2K4 but haven't played either of the older ones, where did they go wrong?

Nah not really, I thought it was alright (not a shade on the original though), but as soon as UT2004 was released they completely stopped selling the game, stopped providng support, offered people UT2004 on the cheap if they owned 2003, and a myriad of other strange things, including press statements where the developers said that UT2004 is the game 2003 should have been. :-P

Taking 2003/4 as the one entity, my main gripe with it in comparison to the original is the way that multiplayer descends into peekfests with a bunch of guys just using brightskins to see you, along with the scale of the maps (which make the players seem pint-sized) trying to compensate for the pace of the game.

I also missed the gothic thing going on - in fact I'm still very bitter that Quake descended into an atmosphereless technohell, and UT doing the same doesn't help!

The original UT was absolutely amazing, I still start it up just to fool around every now end then. The old Phobos Moon map was pure genius.

    Absolutely. :D

I was more of a Morpheus dweller myself though (shame that it was too unbalanced to be played competitively - damn invisibility camping snipers  ); I really loved that map played with friends.

Maybe they are considering UT2k4 more of an expansion off of 2k3? REEAAALLY unlikely, but I can't think of any other reason it'd be UT3.

Considering the esteem that the developers hold UT2003 in, I think that's quite likely to be the case...

Not to hijack the thread or anyrthing, but, Agen, what happened to Our resident spoon guy

    Attention appreciated. :D

I dunno, I just gradually got less interested with JA, I blame the admin-mods myself, and slipped away from the forums at the same time. To be honest, I've disappeared several times now, I don't think I'm ever going to really leave. :p

    Viva la Spoon.

  4. HOLY S*** IT'S AGEN_TERMINATOR!

    :D

    *counts* UT, UT2K3, UT2K4, UT3...

Strange when you consider it is the forth game of the series.

I thought that too - I'm pretty sure now that they're just trying to brainwash people into forgetting Ut2K3 existed. :p

  5. Sucks to be him, and I have to feel a wee bit sorry for the guy, but come on. The WoW part is simply ridiculous.

So in other words, he's never had a game for more than 286 days? I've had Silent Hunter III, for one, for far more than that now.

I'm pretty sure he means he's spent 6864 hours in-game, playing, not played the game over 286 days. Just think how much of his life he spent playing WoW. :-|

  6. What don't you think is stupid Chase ? :p

They're trying to regroup all of theur online services under one name, I think it a good marketing idea.

I don't. They've renamed a popular tool among young people in MSN Messenger and it only serves to cause confusion and tarnish their brand's name really. It might not be a major issue, I agree, but it's quite inefficient. The fact is that there was nothing wrong with 'MSN - Microsoft Network'; that name actually made just as much sense than 'Windows Live', especially considering Microsoft face all sorts of claims regarding monopolising the industry by embedding products into their OS (Media player, Internet Explorer, Messenger etc.) - giving their products similar names won't give good impressions. :)

  7. My natural instinct is to say that IQ tests are utter bull, but my ego-massaging uber IQ that is constantly delivered, prevents me from doing that. :D

They're merely tests on problem solving skills and counting speed (but the latter not in all cases), i'm not quite sure that the elite paper-folders are any better people than the not-so-good-paper-folders hehe.

  8. Hmm, I was once in RGF's sister clan (when they were actually very good, you hear), IGF. The system is faulty at its core and really needs some absolute solid determination from a bunch of people to get anywhere. What you need to do is recruit good players rather training random people, as that takes far too long and they're pretty likely to just go missing (or MIA as it's called in RGF).

If you want to save RGF you'll have to do it yourself, getting a bunch of trustworthy clan-mates who will recruit good players with you and then achieve stuff.

Hmm, if its dying why would I want to waste my time. Besides, all clans die. It happens. Also, most of the people here won't join an honor clan (if you are an honor clan)

At least check to see if it is an honour clan before dismissing it as such. You will see that it's not quite but does have a strict military structure (which was very effective when it was a big clan with 100+ members) and bizarre rpg elements.

Yeah, no clan can last forever. After sometime, someone will have to get tired of a game. If its dying and if you still cant bring it back after putting in much effort, just forget about it and either start or join a new clan.

Well RGF are like 7 years old. They at least have staying power if they can't live forever. :p
