C/:Format.

No really, it WILL clear out the bugs. Honest. :p

But as to what you want..I'm afraid that there arent any real big bug fixers on the web..however, there are a few things that can help.

http://www.grisoft.com/ - Free Anti-Virus Software

http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?lang=en&page=about - Great spyware cleaner

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp Mostly misc stuff, but Tweak UI is very useful.

http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm Registry cleaner, it can automaticly clear any bad registry entries by itself, and even saves a backup incase the cleanup goes awry.

Hope this helps.

If your computer crashes a lot, there's only one way to fix that. It'll take about 1 hour, not including overnight Follow these steps:

1. Delete files you don't want. Stuffing your hard drive with useless files doesn't help.

2. Unplug the cable from your CPU to shut off Internet access.

3. Go to Start->Run, and type in msconfig. Go to startup and deactivate all startup programs, including firewalls, except for system tray or systray. I suggest you write down all the programs you de-activated, for later use. Press OK.

Restart your computer.

3. Go to MS-DOS Prompt, type in scandisk. (On a windows XP, type in "scandisk c".) The scandisk will take about half an hour.

4. After scandisk is done, go to MS-DOS prompt and type in defrag. The defragmentation takes a long time, so I would suggest you do it right before you go to bed so it will be done by morning.

5. When defrag is done, close all windows and go to msconfig again. RE-activate all the startup programs you de-activated. Restart.

6. Plug in cable.

Your computer should run a lot smoother now. ;)

If your PC is really that buggy then no one program will fix everything for you. Try a combination of things and see if it gets any better.

Chances are your registry is full of crap, and probably nothing but a full reformat/ reinstall of the OS will really solve it. Sad but true. If it's been more than 2 years since you have done it, then you are overdue,.. especially if you don't do any of the PC maintainence steps already described on a regular schedule.

You don't need to back up EVERYTHING on your hard drives anyway,.. just the stuff you can't easily replace. Get a another hard drive and dump all the irreplaceable data to that, then wipe the C: drive clean.

luckily, i don't keep much on my computer that i dont have on a cd or disk. so formatting isn't a problem for me and i tend to do it quite regular.

clean booting, defrag & scandisk will help. other things you can do is, uninstall anything you're not using. check the amount of space your system is taking up for system restore, recycle bin and temporary internet files. reduce them if necessary.

also check the virtual memory, the page file should be 10% of your total disk space.
