is it even worth it?

Okay, I'm pretty new to the whole monkey island series, and so far I've only played the first two. I've been lurking around the forums and a few sites, and All I can conclude from what I've read is that the other two games aren't as good. I have a mac, so I know I can get EMI (it's $40au at a local mac shop), but I'm pretty sure I can't get CMI unless I go the virtual pc option (someone please correct me if I'm wrong.) SO my question is... Is it worth going to all the trouble?

Should I bother getting the other two games? Especially EMI, which everyone seems to think sucks most of all.

It's just that I really reallyREALLY liked the first two games (especially the second one) so I don't wanna ruin the whole experience by buying something dodgey that will just make me go "aw, well that wasn't worth the trouble".

Something about the other two games doesn't sit right with me. It's like a fan fic writer writing a sequel rather than the original author, so no matter how good it's gonna be, there are always things they'll get wrong. (I'm a bit like that with most things, I won't listen to a band I like if they get a new singer, and I couldn't bring myself to reading the sequel to the day of the triffids.)

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm a newbie, so it's allowed...isn't it?

You're the only person who can decide for yourself if they were "worth it." The only thing I can tell you about CMI and EMI is that their design is vastly different from MI1 and 2, but they're still great, amazing games. I think you should at least play CMI, which many people consider the best of the series. I think you should get EMI too, but you really should play Curse first. As for everyone saying that EMI sucks, it's mostly because it just didn't achieve the level of greatness that the others did (and that's only other people's opinion). It's still a wonderful sequel and a great game and should not be missed.

Hope this helps.

I agree with Udvarnoky - some people (weirdos ¬¬) like EFMI a lot. Maybe you're one of them. COMI's quite good anyway. :)

I believe you can sort-of play CMI on a Mac via ScummVM, but I don't think it works 100%. It's improving all the time, though!

I'd say give them a try, and if you hate them, you can always have a horrific accident and lose your memory. ¬

Thanks for your help guys, I think I will give it a chance. Even if I have to go around asking my PC using friend if they have an old copy of CMI somewhere that I can come over and play for hours on end.

I've downloaded scummvm, so I'll give it a go, but otherwise I might be able to get a "five finger discount" somewhere on a windows 95 or 98 (but don't tell anyone ;))

anyway, thanks again for your detailed responses!

Now, off to search for CMI *puts on searching hat*

Okay, I lied, I don't have a searching hat. Please don't hate me.

Child Porno?? really?? That's a funny coincedence, cause I live near a kindergarten and I am actually a 'talent scout' for child porn stars. Maybe we could swap photos sometime??

Oh, and btw, I'm female. (that just makes everything else I said in this post a LOT more disturbing, I know)

Thanks for the shark repellent. It must be good, cause I've never seen a shark up close in my life!

  • 2 weeks later...

Yay for wierdos.

Some people say EMI and CMI suck, but that's mostly the kind of people that hang around Monkey Island message boards. :D If you're a continuity freak, then when you get to EMI you will bury yourself and die just so you can turn over in your grave, but if you're not a real heckler, it's fine. Both games are great games, but some people just don't think they're up to par with the previous ones. I say give them a try.

Buy the games.

Oh, you said they where like fan games or whatever. This isn't entirely wrong. Tim left the project (Thurgood Stubbs. Does ANYONE else know that name? How 'bout Ernil, the peado?)

so its understandable to think the magic has died.

Oh yeah, ''someone liking something you don't '' does make them wierd. Again Ernil is a good example. Oh Ernil. How could you? Your wife (the sheep) will be cross:D
