Change one thing about KotOR [poss. spoilers]

OK, here's the challenge:

Detail any one change to make to KotOR as delivered, then describe the positive impact and any potential negatives.

I'll start:

Change: Include an editor like the Aurora toolkit from NWN.

Impact: allow creative authors to make cool expansions.

Negatives: {serious} could have delayed release, what about XBox? {joke} I lose my wife, kids and house because I can't stop playing ...

Now you try ...

OK, I'll also go second.

Change: allow more potential henchmen.

Impact: maybe you want to take a Gamorrean, or a few Mandalorians, or more droids, or whatever. Possibly specialists like snipers or grenadiers. Allow you to hire in or out and 'part ways' like in NWN. If so, they tell you where you can find them again if needed.

Negative: dilute side-quests and inter-party interaction, increase complexity without major gameplay benefit.

such toolsets are meant for online RPGs, not pure single player games like KotOR. But how about giving the main character a name and a voice? I feel like I'm a mime since my character is the only one who never speaks. On these grounds i felt the Jedi Academy showed some promise with a semi-customizable, semi-premade character. That would definitely be better, though it might offend some hardcore RPG gamers.

no, such toolsets are not meant solely for online gaming. that's not true in the least. NWN was not a primarily multi-player game at all. such toolsets are for people who enjoy creating custom content for their games and sharing it with others. a game does not have to be multi-player for this. as for NWN, the best of the player-made modules are hosted on the site for anyone to download and enjoy.

a toolset for a game does more than just let you cretae a map to play in with your friends online. it increases the life of the game as there can be new content added whether or not the company decides to make any official expansions or add-ons.

there are alot of people out there, who like to just re-skin their character to their liking, or create new weapons, and could care less whether or not it was shared online.

Is this only about modding and such or can I change something not related to that?

Anyway, i would like to change the music at certain parts. Sometimes I play the game(I've finished the game 5 times so...) and I'm just imagining a good old star wars theme that would just fit a particular scene so perfectly and it saddens me that the music is not as good as it would be.

Don't get me wrong, the music is generally good. It's just sometimes, you know...

and

Both Light side and Dark Side ending to be a lot cooler. I mean you just saved the Republic and you get only a few cardboard soldiers cheering for you?! I defeated the Dark Lord of the Sith! Luke destroyed a puny Death Star and he gets lots more stuff then I did! ARGH!

I would like more 'cloak and dagger' sidequests for my rogue or scout. This would be quests where only the PC can use his skills, like security, repair, computers or stealth. As it is there are way too many benefits for being soldier/guardian opposed to the more demanding rogue/consular class.

[positive]: Grant items, credits and experience to the mages/thiefs. Increase the value of replaying the game with a different class.

[negative]: Can't really think of one.

I would like to take that a bit further... I would like to see the game modified more based on which class you were. I know it would be a LOT of work, but as there were just 3 classes...well it seems as though they could have put more class specific stuff in on Taris at the very least. 3 different ways to start the game all of which wind up with you having linked with Carth and Bastilla and escaped on the Ebon Hawk.

From there it would have to remain relatively the same, as I don't see THAT much philosophical difference between the Jedi types.

i'm all for more stealth in the game (splinter cell is among my top 5 favourite games) but wouldn't that yield quite a bit less exp than some kick-@ss action? that would pose a big problem when we eventually came to necessary fights 'cause the PC would then definitely be weaker. unless of course you are willing to use henchmen as the PC (alone) on such missions (like Mission or Juhani).

That's the point though, it isn't well supported in this game, IMO...though you can get a LOT of XP from messing with computers and repairing droids you find...

Oh, I had another very specific thought. Since you can let Yuthara live if you play light side, why not have the option of adding her to your party if you go dark? I know...just another Jedi wouldnt add much functionality, but maybe she would be viable only if you had plenty of DS points and had killed Juhani (that way it doesn't add an extra member, just replaces one...). I felt bad having to kill her to avoid gaining LS points :(

That doesn't exactly work out since you'd only kill Juhani if you're on the dark side, and that means you'll have to kill Yuthara as well. Speaking of combat, I did feel that even this excellent combat system did have something lacking. For example, everyone uses lightsabers exactly the same way they use meee weapons (swords and vibroblades). I think lightsabers deserve better stances, moves and taunts (like the one Revan uses in the second dream). Also, there's very little use of the force jump. If anyone saw the small cutscene in Jedi Academy between Jaden and Alora on Korriban after letting Rosh live (darn!), that's the kind of Jedi action I would have liked to have seen.

I have a couple of ideas. Let me get them off my chest.

1: Lvls beyond lvl 20.

Positive: As you still get XP after you reached lvl 20, and have no use for it would be just plain cool to be able to get more lvls. I mean, lvl 20 isnt that high, but raising the cap 5 lvls or would have a good impact on the game. It would make it more fun to slice into computers, repair droids, etc.. If you get my meaning.

Negatives: None that I can think of.

2: Other skill system

Positives: Make it like the one in Morrowind. Using the skill gives you skill Exp, and raises your skill total as you progress. It again makes it more fun to slice computers, repair droids etc.. Talking to ppl gives you persuade exp and so on. You get the point.

Negatives: Hmm, there might be some here, I'm not sure though, but making the skill system like this would of course need a cap on the various skills. Feel free to come with negatives regarding this idea. Theres gotta be some more, besides the one that I found.

Thats all I can think of now, I might come with more though. Let me hear some of your responses...

Actually, the first is just an agreement with the above post:

1) Higher levels. Actually, just the over-all level needs to go

above 20. Keep 20 as the level cap for EACH class, but allow the over-all character level to climb as high as we want. On the same

topic, allow players to choose which class they want to level up

in, each time.

2) More character customization. More different heads, more

different bodies. And give us a choice of voices. How difficult could

it be to have a few voice-actors record the different dialouge

options, as was done with all the others?

Things Prime would like to see:

- customizable content:

Both internal to the game and with tools. A wider variety with character models and skins would be nice. With a model and skin editor, you could even to a mod where the sith soldiers are replaced with stormtrooper, Malak with Vader, the Ebon Hawk with the Falcon, and so on.

- less forced class progression:

In KOTOR you are forced to become a Jedi at some point. It might be cool to be able to go through the whole game as a "normal" character, like a Han Solo type. However, this leads to more work with the storyline and all the problems associated with that.

- more camera control:

I certainly like the cinematic battles and the ability to swing the camera around. However, sometimes I felt that the camera was too close, and thus I was missing some of the action. The camera focuses on one character at a time (unless they are in melee combat with the same enemy). I would like the ability to zoom and pan out the camera and move it up and down. Then you would be able to view the action exactly how you want it. For me, I tend to want to pan out and view the battle as a whole.

- different lightsaber hilts:

This is one thing I really like about JA. It is a minor thing, but it is one more way to make your character feel like your own.

- better inventory management:

I'd like to see a better system for equiping and unequiping weapons and armour. Also the ability to organize your stuff, not just have a big long list. Also have an easier way to drop items you don't want. Finally, allow players to to access the NPC equipment/info screens in the Eban Hawk. I hate having to bring everyone outside the ship to level them up or adjust their equipment.

Change: Maximum Charecter Level higher, maybe 40?

Impact: more indepth charecter building throughtout the game

Negatives: can't think of any

Change: more charecter options, like species and looks

Impact: NPC's will interact different with different species, people will fear you more if your a wookie, and might take you as a joke if your a weaker species

Negatives: again, can't think of any

if someone posted they messed up and di not become a jedi, that is a lie. it is impossible in this game to turn down jedi training. i tried, just for the hell of it. chose every option there for turning down jedi training, and master vandar simply replied that there was little choice in the matter, and the game proceeded as usual. i didn't mind as i wanted to be a jedi anyway. when games are titled in a way that they imply you being a jedi, then people should not complain when they buy it and, shock....they play as a jedi. :) it is integral to the plot of the game. and who wouldn't want to be a jedi anyway. :)

expansion packs would be the best way to add this feature. but i don't see those happening with the attitude bioware's been taking on it.

as far as the constant comparison of this game to JA, if you want a FPS go play one. JA had it's nice features, but force jump is utterly useless in this type of game, except for what they managed to use it for. i mean what could you do with force jump in this game? there are no places to jump to. and the combat system wouldn't really be the kind to need combos made up of different actions. personally i like the combat system in this game much better than the one in JA. at least i feel like i'm having a lightsaber duel. and not just running around in circles swinging the thing while trying not to get hit.

i do agree with the stances issue though. especially as there are historically recorded and learned stances for lightsabers. you do not use them as you do melee weapons. the fact that dexterity affects them instead of strength should show that.

Change: Make it able to run on the recommended ATI graphics cards.

Impact: Would allow me and many others who purchased it to play it.

Negatives: Might stop the incessant spamming of posts on the Bioware forums regarding people with ATI cards that meet the recommended specs who get crazy overheating problems and constant crashes with no help at all.
