Would YOU kill Hitler?

I was refering to the Goths hate Jews statement....

That doesn't make sence at all, its pretty immature to judge like that.....

Witty things - Just because I don't always post something witty doesn't mean I'm not thinking it. I try to be nice, but sometimes the things you guys post just make no sence.....

Lastly, moving to the debate forum. This is a good debating topic. Its also getting pretty heated. You are supposed to RELAX here, not get UPSET if someone posts something that offends you.

-----------

Maybe its just me, but coming to LF seems to be less enjoyable every day.....

Going back in time, overall, is an incredibly dumb thing to do, even if possible. I'm always reminded of one of the Simpsons Halloween specials where Homer travels back in time and he remembers Grandpa telling him that if he ever goes back in time, don't touch anything. Well Homer killed some insect or something, and lo and behold he travels back and the world is completely different. Doesn't make any sense? The point is that time travel into the past would ultimately affect the present.

Just curious (sp?) :How exactly did time change by stepping on a bug?

That insect could have infected a dinosaur, but by stepping on it, it never got a chance, thus the dinorsaur didn't get the infection it was supposed to. this causes something else to happen instead of the dinosaur getting infected. Everything that happens has a toll on the future.

The last thing i knew, it's a common concept, but the rest is all clear to me now aswell. thanks.

Ridiculous as it may sound, he's right. Maybe if hitler didn't kill so many jews, the world would now be controlled by a hitler-like jew! Who kills christians. *shudders at the mere thought of it* And i'm not even christian...

If I were Hitler though, the one mistake that led to his downfall was attacking Russia, going after the States would have been better, because their bastard of a president at the time had ford supply Hitler with it's tanks, it was a complete shoe in, I wonder if they made a deal not to attack the "Great US" even though the states sucks balls.

that is a very good point snake, and one i have ofetn pondered about. what did hitler gain by attacking stalin at that time, he had got an agreement keeping russia from causing war.

Anyone who said kill hitler consider, why not, instead of killing hitler, go back and stop the appsemnet policy that the allies had toward hitler? If britain, france, U.S.A. had marched in when hitler had started to remiltrize then there would have been no forces to conted with the allied army.

But that leaves open the point you would have a seething german people in a milterized contry and no peace with Sovit union.

Anyone care top point out flaws or argue points :)

No, but it belongs here more than the Swamp. The Swamp, you can relax and talk. This is how the thread started, but it quickly turned into a "What would I do if I was Hitler" thread.....

Ok, seriously, where did you pick the holocaust up? Hitler was a brilliant young boy, who, like EVERYONE, has their dark little secrets, but his grew darker,

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Not much of a secret...

Ok, the part where i said where did you get the holocaust from, I meant it from my post before that one, because I never spoke of the holocaust at all, and never even hinted towards it.

Just to get that out.

And yeah, I don't put much thought into what I type, which confuses a lot of people, but I argued with my history teacher, and 5 other teachers ended up joining the arguement, and none of them could bring a point against me.

The Revolutionary War was not lost by England, pfft, they're too noble for that. They simpley let the babies have what they wanted.

But any of that doesn't matter, it's all history now.

currently, it's about Bush's arrogance and his lack to tell the truth.

If anyone should be murdered throughout history, it's that Jackass.

Anyway, I just read a couple of the posts, not all, because I just got in from skateboarding (I got totaled, :p) and am Too lazy to reply to lots and lots of comments made towards me, but I am right.

I've been studying my theory's for quite some time, and...because I think so much is the only reason why I don't have a girlfriend :( -Starts smashing a hammer into his head-

:D

Yup, make sense out of that, YOU PEOPLE!

Actually, the Revolutionary War was lost by England the moment they decided to colonize a place so far without providing a significant military "escort."

If you could go back in time to wherever and whenever you want, why would you need to KILL hitler. You could ensure he never rose to power, ensure people didn' appease him, get the US involved earlier, go back to when he was a child and help him grow up, go back before that and ensure that the WW1 settlement wasn't so overly harsh on germany leading to the society that would accept him.

There are so many things you could do that wouldn't involve killing, so you would have to be either violent in tendancies or severly lacking in immagination.

Of course, if you take out hitler there is no guarantee that someone else wouldn't have done something similar. (or worse.... butterfly effect wise)

People always seem to think that it is one evil figure (Hitler, Stalin, Saddam, Bin Ladin, Mugabe) who is the cause of all the problems, often it is never that simple. There need to be reasons why they are as they are, feel as they do and, most importantly, the right circumstances to allow them to gain support and get into power. None of the above would have even been heard of if they didn't ahve at least a fair level of people who supported them. And all of the above had such a level of popular support because the population felt victimised and oppressed. (and in the case of all but stalin, the reason they felt victimised was due to interference by the west (britain/america).

In such a situation taking out the figurehead would probably have no real effect, as someone else would just step in.

(and in a less political and more sci-fi sense, stopping the second world war would have major effects on the timeline, many technological developments would never have happened and might well not exist. and if you don't exist, how could you have gone back in time to kill hitler?)

To paraphrase Ron Perlman's Norman Arbuthnot character in The Last Supper, certainly not.

Instead I would try to influence him through my intellect, to have a rationale discussion and change his mind through honest open debate.

One other issue that this whole thing brings up is the issue of fate. One the one hand you're assuming that Hitler HAS to become the mass murderer he ended up being in history. But by going back in time, you're assuming that "History" can be changed. So it's almost a paradox.

Suffice to say there are far more evil men in history that would be on the "hit list" before Hitler, even though he'd be up there, but again, would simply killing him really save 12+ million lives or would "another Hitler" simply take his place?

Historians consider Hitler a charismatic leader, but also that history was "ripe" for such a man like him to take power in Germany. He made plenty of mistakes and had plenty of enemies and rivals, surely another would simply rise and become the next "Fuhrer."

you mean if i went back and killed hitler then the US wouldn't have made a huge profit out of WW2 and become the world's only superpower?

I might change my vote :D

It might be reasonable to assume that if germany didn't start world war 2 then most of europe might actually be part of the USSR right now, and all those mad americans in the 60s, 70s and 80s who were worried about a commie plot ot take over the world might actually have had something to worry about.

I think I would have made Hitler work in all the types of camps that he had. I'd torture him excessively, attack him mentally, physically, and spiritually. Then, I'd give him a slow and painful death. Then I'd do almost the same stuff (except working in the camps) to all of his supporters.

First things first: It wouldn't have been possible. Killing him would change the course of history, which would ensure that you would never have been born in the first place, and thus couldn't have killed Hitler. So when it happens, it hasn't happened after all. You get the idea.

Apart from that, don't mess with history. You will never know the consequences. You might kill Hitler and get back and then realise that the world is now far worse. This goes for all time travelling, step on a bush in the past and the world may be invaded by psycho aliens in the present.

Also keep in mind that a world war between Germany and the rest of Europe was pretty much bound to happen anyway, due to WW1. And it might have been far, far worse than what it was. Besides, antisettism was pretty common in Europe, and if you believe it was Hitler who was responsible for the deaths of millions of jews, you're wrong.

I also have to object against people saying Hitler and his supporters were "evil". Remember that they believed jews and communists were evil and that killing them would be good and that the world would be better if under Nazi control. This goes against the very definition of evil (you'd have to be evil for evil's sake), and thus they can't have been evil. Same goes for all other "evil" men throughout history, Stalin, bin Laden, Hussein, Bush, you name it.

No offense, but that would've made you as bad, if not even worse, than he and his followers. Killing for revenge never solves anything, it only creates hatred and lack of understanding.

Just for the record, violence has solved a lot of problems. Carthage, anyone?

  • 2 weeks later...

At the risk of sounding cynical, I'd like to point out that if it hadn't been the Nazis in Germany, then it would have been the Commies in Germany. Then, on the one hand, we wouldn't have had the War, but on the other we'd have had the Iron Curtain go from Greenland to Antarctis rather than from the Baltic to the Mediterranian.

The problem in Germany was not one man, be he nazi or commie. The problem was that the majority of the people in the Weimar Republic saw Democracy as a problem. Kill Hitler or not kill Hitler, you'd have a totalitarian government on your hands either way.

it wasn't that they saw democracy as a problem.

It was that they felt under threat, unfairly treated and discriminated against (mainly by either the harsh post WW1 agreements, or by elite rulling classes).

As is often the case (and well pointed out in a bob dylan song), when people feel like this they need to have someone to blame, and they usually take it out on people who are weaker than them.

This lead to a lot of anti jewish and anti allies feeling, in the same way that it lead to a lot of racism in the south, is leading to anti-asylum seeker feeling in the uk right now and nationalist victoires in france, etc...

And there are always politicians willing to step up and exploit the situation by attacking others as the cause of the problem (whether thay are or not). nationalists or socialists or religious orwhatever, the situation was ripe in most of those countries for some form of extremist leader to pop up and promise to solve everything.
