I think people were expecting a super-hero movie, but The Punisher is not a superhero, but more of a vigilante. The movie seemed like a gangster movie to me more than anything, but I really did like it. I don't think it was over the top enough for audiences, and probably pailed in comparison to other summer releases due to it's lack of bullet-time stunts/effects or cgi. Van Helsing was definitely funny, but I never took it seriously. It's more like a video game type movie, and you either love it, or hate it. The guy who played Dracula really bugged me, I liked his costume, but hated his acting, and his cheesy Transylvanian accent. Nobody ever played Dracula better than Gary Oldman in Bram Stoker's Dracual, NOBODY! So for that reason, I had a hard time with it. Either way, i'll probably get the DVD when it comes out. I knew it would when I saw the trailer...As hot as Halle Berry is, Michelle Pfifer played Catwoman better than anyone else would be able to IMHO. (they were wrong about The Punisher, AND Troy), however the critics on Rotten Tomatoes don't really work for the website, it merely links to very high profile newspaper and magazine critics, takes all of thier reviews and gives you an overall percentage, which is about the easiest way to figure out what people are saying about a particular movie. Oh, and Catwoman, pssh, it'll be cheaper to rent a porn video It would be even cheaper to go to one of those cheesy websites where geeks super impose famous actresses' faces over smut images.
