Other videogame companies love their oldschool fans, why not Lucasarts

Namco, Activision, and other assorted video game companies have recently engaged in the practice of releasing collections of their classic games to the public on the newer systems. Heck, Sega released that collection of the Genesis Sonic the Hedgehog games onto gamecube, and Capcom recently released that Megaman collection. (Can a Street Fighter collection be far behind? Hopefully not.) Anyway, these and other video game companies have given the fans of their vintage games a bone to chew on. Why can't Lucasarts take a page from their book? Get someone to work on how to adapt the classic SCUMM games onto Gamecube, PS2 or X-Box. And then see how many of those games they could fit into one collection. It could work.

How exactly do you see that working. The old point and click version won't work simply because people find that hard and annoying on a console using a gamepad and plus people just won't like it or play it, people who play games solely on consoles don't usually like adventure games much. They like action more.

Liar.

You really need a mouse for SCUMM anyway.

On what basis are you calling bg a liar? They were ported to X-box and Ps2.

And the whole 'you need a mouse for scumm games' isn't entirely true, the first 2 Discworld games were ported to the playstation and played via the gamepad (you could of course buy a mouse, but most people didn't, most people didn't buy the games)

Not far behind at all, no.

I don't think we should be taking potshots at LucasArts for not releasing collectors editions of their games on consoles. I doubt such a collection would sell very well in the first place, and besides - these games were never intended for consoles, whereas Sonic, Street Fighter & Megaman were. We have also been given the means to make older games run on newer operating systems through updated executables (and ScummVM), and there have been plenty of rereleases and compilations. So what's to complain about?

It would have been nicer if LucasArts collaborated with ScummVM instead of sending them nasty letters, and it wouldn't be a bad idea for them to release some of their older titles for free. But a compilation for consoles is asking too much. I believe Sierra were in talks with someone who managed ported old AGI games like Leisure Suit Larry & Police Quest to the GBA, but in the end the idea was abandoned.

Oh, and ScummVM works well enough on the Dreamcast with no mouse necessary. So it probably runs a hell of a lot better on the X-Box.

Well, Monkey Island 1 was avalible for the Sega CD and it still used SCUMM and worked quite well.

I didn't say it wouldn't work technically, it's just that people won't buy it and gameplay would be annoying (yeah, it worked quite well on the Sega CD, but that doesn't mean people liked it)
