All 4 teams at once?

I am getting bored of 2 teamed games. Such as Unreal Tournament. CTF (unmodded) is played with 2 teams. Counter Strike is played with 2 teams. I am sure there is more then 2 opinions in the world so why not let different teams represent these different opinions. I think multiples teams fighting at once is a great idea, but only on maps where it wouldnt detract from the reality (Star Wars? Reality? hmm i must be going mad). If a few maps could be sneaked in where multiple teams could play. then it would be great. Such as a Secret Base on a planet where a droid army lies dormant but they are activated by Rebels and Imperials fighting there.

I think one of the reasons you don't see more than 2 teams in FPS games is partially because of art assets (more teams = more assets = more memory) and also I'm pretty sure 4 teams would be incredibly chaotic *and* it would make it very difficult to achieve objectives other than "last man/team standing" kind of things.

It works a bit better in RTS games - I believe SW:Galactic Conquest lets you slug it out with up to six different teams simultaneously.

Under certain circumstances, 3 or more teams would actually work. If all 4 teams were after the same objectives then it would be disasterous. But if the teams were after something different it might work. If i give a CTF example then base it in Star Wars form:

The Red Team would need to capture the Green Teams flag.

The Green Team needs to capture the Blue Teams flag.

The Blue team needs to capture the Red Teams flag.

OR

Each team needs to capture either one of the opponents flags.

This means they are not nessesarily after the same objectives.

In a Star Wars form:

The Imperials need to Kill the Rebels and survive against Droids

The Rebels need to kill the Imperials and survive against Droids

The Droids need to wipe everyone out and survive against Droids

or something a little more adventurous.

What you guys are proposing is essentially a real time strategy game with the option to play in first or third person mode. That would indeed be an awesome game if you had the ability to build various buidings such as factories, gun turrets, power plants, barracks, etc in real time with whole other armies that were teammates and enemies. It would be cool if you were a grunt or pilot that could command a team of other grunts or vehicles to go and attack a base. Then if you die, you just build more grunts, vehicles and other armaments and try again. I could be wrong but unfortunately, technology has not yet advanced to that point where it could be done effectively on this type of scale. But hopefully in the near future we could see something like this as i would be first in line to buy a game that encompasses star wars, an fps, and real time strategy all in one. A perfect blend of gameplay if you will.

Yeah, but that wont work, cause then they'd probably have to cut down the map sizes, and the graphics for the console versions, if all 4 teams would be fighting..

Ewoks and gungans.. that would be pretty funny... :ewok::jarjar:

or ....... EWOKS VS GUNGANS i would be an ewok and hit gungans in the face with my spear

In BF, that's not possible, because all of the maps will be based on the principal that there is one team against another, with two bases. OOH! But what WOULD be cool, is if you could play as the NPCs! Like the Tusken Raiders on tatooine! That would rule!

I think more games should have more than two teams, other than RTS games.

BTW, it's Galactic Battlegrounds, and you could have up to 8 players.

About an FPS mixed with an RTS, there is one. Savage: The Battle for Newerth.

summary: 4 teams in fps is too chaotic, and wouldn't be star wars like at all. The 4 factions fighting in one map? ridiculous.

in RTS its no wonder there are many more teams playing. The objectives are simple to understand, and all you do is command an army. You're not 1 "of the army (fps)".

Don't expect this to ever appear in Battlefront as a mod, I doubt its possible to get that and have good gameplay

I agree that the 4 factions fighting at once would be unrealistic unless a map had a really strange storyline.

But i disagree that it would be chaotic. If the map was well thought out and the objectives kept simple then it could work. But as you say Alegis, its probably not possible and it would be unrealistic for most (if not all) maps.

I like it. If you add the rpg element (the longer you play, the better your bases will be) and the space fight element (more planets, and the possibility to be bussy with spacestations and ships rather then buildings) it would be the complete game. All kinds of gamers can play. FPS players that are really good will probably be hired for high prices to defend a space station or facility. Techs on ships will have actual problems to camp with (they don't know whys omething isn't fynctioning and have to repair the equipment), medics will be healing people (can't find is hart! what species is he anyway?) commanders can build up their fleet. scouts can sell information on systems the searched. Space pilots can be hired to give an escort, you can be a pirat, etc etc.

ALL people who buy the game will be playing in one game (you can meet everyone), and because of the enormous amounts of players, all functions in the game will be real people. You'd never encounter NPC's (freighters are people, pirats are people).

Of course the game should be constatnly updated, as people discover more and more systems. This shouldn't be to hard. You just take a systems, put same planets on it, star, maybe a blackhole or a nebula. Maybe the different maps could even be computer generated after a while. This way people who get near to the barrier of a system, make the server create systems to make sure the person in question will never leave the game. The people who have a building company might put jumpports or something between sectors the scouts discovered.

If you want to enter a new sector, you have to buy (in real money) some exstention (shouldn't cost much, as sectors should be easy to create) to be able to enter the system.

And one more thing, people should NEVER be able to reach the top: pilots shouldn't reach the level they have the best ship and the best waepons. Developers should be adding new vehicles constantly (over different factions, would give some nice war scenarios). Of course the technology for the different vehicles will be have to researched first (makes those war shenario's realistic).

That's the perfect game in my eyes. Mabe we should make a thread about it :D

I agree, for 2 reasons.

> Technology is always advancing

> The game will get boring for someone if they have nothing to strive for.

But if the game keeps advancing and people keep getting better and better, some people may be left behind. So far behind that they have no chance.

To Mountainforest:

So you basically described SW: Galaxies with added base building :p . Yeah I admit it would be cool, but perhaps would get boring nearly as quickly as SWG does. Simplest thing would be to make a mod to Savage, the way Savage works is:

2 Teams, both have 1 commander rest are units. Commander starts harvesting from mine and builds and upgrades stuff like in normal RTS, the players charge at enemy or protect base etc. When they kill an enemy or NPC they gain gold in which they can use to build better units/weapons/equipment what the commander has researched, it has a slight level system aswell, but even level 10 ( max level ) just pretty much has slightly more health and does more melee damage compared to just starting level 1 unit. I suggest you guys give atleast the demo a go while waiting for Battlefront to come out. I actually wished that Battlefront would be more like Savage and less like Battlefield1942, ohh well perhaps someone can mod RTS as part of the game ;)

I never played galaxies but from what I heared of it, it's a little bit different. If you can correct the possible errors I'll probably make now, that would be really apreciated :D

  • In galaxies you don't actually have to repair vehicles by looking where the wires are wron etc. It's more like normal games (hitting with a hammer on hit and hey, you're actually putting something together!)
  • Same thing for medics.
  • Galaxie is not endless big.
  • Possibility to hire people?
  • FPS players have a republic comando interface, pilots a
  • I believe there are a lot of extra possibility's that aren't in galaxies but again, correct me if I'm wrong

Yeah i used to play natural selection, which was an influence into what i am thinking about. However i was thinking that it would be on a more epic scale. Think the battle of hoth as an rts/fps hybrid. You have to build a base but in this case echo base is already built so you command your men to go and build turrets, barracks, etc. Meanwhile the empire is building at-ats, at-st's, barracks and such. But the difference between this game and natural selection is that the star wars game would have bigger everything. Bigger bases, turrets, etc. Also the battle of hoth was a huge area so basically the battlefield would essentially be a 5-6 mile stretch as it's gonna be on battlefront. I do think that natural selection is a good precursor to games like this. I just want to see it done a lot bigger. All they'd have to do is basically combine an rts with battlefront then you have one of my dream games come true. Also you could have all the guys on your team be different classes as they are in battlefron with some specializing in different areas. I think it could happen in a few years.

This is currently undoable at game business I believe, a thing like would nearly have to be it's own game, and when you think how many vehicles there are in Star Wars universe, simply impossible

  • Same thing for medics.
Same as above, this would require damn advanced player models with not only outersides damages but inside of the body aswell

  • Galaxie is not endless big.
Impossible, programming something like that is huge and when you consider random created planets, eventually they all look alike etc.

  • Possibility to hire people?
I don't think this is in the SWG as there are only missions ( which most are boring )

  • FPS players have a republic comando interface, pilots a
??? Well if I understood correctly you would like FPS interphase with shooting and stuff and not just point & click. Yup I agree that's why I love Savage so much

  • I believe there are a lot of extra possibility's that aren't in galaxies but again, correct me if I'm wrong
Yea you can buy house furniture etc. but you cannot really do anything with them, and furthermore they are just on some lone hill usually with little difference. Yea I would like a RTS/FPS Hybrid of Star Wars, but I would rather have it done Savage style rather than another MMOG, since the game industry obviously isn't big and creative enough for those yet.

Yah well I only tried out the trial myself ....... and I have to say the game didn't quite live to the expectations.

To Tyler Durden:

I tried Natural Selection aswell, but when I started it I found it very boring. Basically Savage is done better in every aspect. Those who like scifi and closed environment more might disagree. Try out the demo of Savage that can be found for example at www.gamershell.com
