The attack of the remnants

Recommended Posts

((I apologize, been having some..distractions since summer's coming to an end. Anyone mind catching me up real quick?))

Strider nodded, "I think so too. I wonder how they're going to deal with it this time. Many don't remember what it was like, I mean I wasn't there either but I've read everything there is about the Clone Wars."

((The senator (Tepe) has returned to Mimban and taken Kale (Curt-Man) and his co-pilot captive. As for me... I'm just talking to you :) ))

"Have you truly read everything, Strider?" Cole asked quietly. "Or have you read everything the Jedi Archives can show you?"

Without waiting for Strider to answer, he motioned with one hand for Strider to follow him and turned toward the hall that would lead them to his room.

Thomas smiled and nodded. "True, but some mercenaries should stick their heads somewhere elsewhere than there where they are not welcome" he said and turned away. "Let them go, but make sure that they leave the system" he said to a higher ranked officer, then walked out of the hangar with his guards tailing him.

His shuttle soon departed and left for the planet below them, entering the athmosphere quickly. A holograph of Thomas' assistant, a male Twi'lek, popped up.

"Sire, you wanted to speak with me before you landed"

"Yes. have you heard anything of the jedi council. They promised to send a couple of jedi and I wanted to greet them personally"

"No, sire. There has been no messages from Coruscant after your report of our departation"

"Damn... Well... Tell me the very minute the message comes throught. And get the files of the mercenaries Kale Dakari and Tark Banistare"'

"Yes, sire"

The hologram vanished with a wavy moment, leaving the ex-senator thinking on the captain's seat

As Tark fired up the ship he turned to Kale.

"Don't you think they'll research us? i mean everyone of high authority always does"

"Of course i do, but what they find won't be much, and if they find something deep, its not true. Haven't i told you i cover my tracks?"

"About a hundered times."

"My point exactly." With that they took off and jumped to Nar Shadaa.

Strider followed Cole behind him, answering his questions, "Mostly from the archives, but I've travelled to many planets that the war took place on, and gathered what I could from there as well. I know that the Jedi have their ways of not telling us everything when we're students."

"There is a lot they don't tell us," Cole said softly. They came to his door and he opened it, turning to Strider. "Even now, they continue to hold information from us."

He entered the room and went to his bookshelf. After staring at the second shelf from the top for a few seconds, he took out a book and handed it to Strider. "Have you seen this?"

The book had a picture of Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi standing back to back, lightsabers drawn, surrounded by droids.

"Damn good photography, don't you think?" Cole grinned. "This book is full of pictures of the Clone Wars." He sighed. "We've always been told that the Jedi of old were given a fair chance in battle. You'll see pictures in that book that tell you otherwise. Jedi were shot in the back... shot with missiles, shot multiple times, shot even after they were dead." He turned away. "The Clone Wars were not a fair fight... the Jedi were betrayed by the clones they trusted."

((They need to fix the "Remember me" button..it never..you know.. REMEMBERS me. :p ))

Strider looked through it, smirking slightly at Cole's comment about the photography. "I knew that they were betrayed..but I didn't imagine this." He stated, looking through the book, not at all seeming shocked, but suprised to learn something new.

"Welcome to a truer knowledge of the Empire," Cole sighed. "That is what we are once more falling into. Only this time, it will be worse. The Remnants of the old Empire want the power again. A new Empire will rise. They will fight each other, but they will fight us harder. When we are gone, then they will be free to fight each other to the death."

There was a moment of silence before he continued. "You and I are to be thrust into the very center of it, Strider. The Council are still debating, but they will give the Senator what he wants. Jedi will be sent to Mimban. But only two are to be sent... though they do not realize it, the Jedi Council repeats the sending of two Jedi. Will there be another two like Kenobi and Skywalker?" He shook his head. "Those two accomplished more together than any other Jedi of their time."

With a sigh, Cole shook his head. "If the Jedi are so willing to comply with the separation of a system from the Republic, the Republic has no choice but to fall."

"Well, should the two of us be sent, I guarantee you I will not fall like Skywalker. My allegiance lies with democracy, and I will fight to the death if it means protecting the Jedi." He said confidently. "We cannot allow this Republic to fall once more. I don't think the Galaxy could suffer an economic crumble once more." He finished.

"It was separation that drove Kenobi and Skywalker apart and led Skywalker astray," Cole said quietly. "If we are to be our generation's model of those two heroes, we cannot allow separation and arrogance to take hold."

The door chimed and a young padawan entered. "Knights Cole and Flamehart are expected before the Council."

"Thank you," Cole said. The padawan left and Cole turned to Strider. "I feel this will be the first of many times we work together."

When Cole and Strider eventually got to the council and the door opened, a holographic Thomas was there, his back to the door. "Yes, council. I shall do my best to keep you posted in what happens here. I won't allow this system to be pushed into a state of war" he said and bowed, the hologram then fading with a crackle.

The ex-senator, now called a Grand Admiral(2nd class) of the Mimbanian navy, sat down in his small palace, a normal home of senators, ex-senators and council members in the Mimban system. "I would've done what Palpatine couldn't... Only if I would've had the chancellor in my grasp" he mumbled. "But now it seems that I must plan it again... Zork! Get Admiral Nevelis. I want to speak with him" he said, a small hump-backed crature rushing out of the room to get the closest officer the Grand Admiral held in his fleet. Thomas sighed and looked out at the almost inhospitable planet's terrain

"Knight Cole and Knight Flamehart," one of the Council members said quietly. "You have been called for the very reason we were just speaking with the former senator of Mimban."

"He has requested that a pair of Jedi be sent to ensure the keeping of the peace in that system," a second Council member announced. "After our lengthy discussions, we have chosen the two of you for this task."

Cole shot Strider an 'I told you so' glance and bowed to the Council. "I am ready to serve. When are we to leave?"

"As quickly as possible," the first Jedi answered. "Senator El'Karoth is growing impatient. We think he thought we were sending you with him when he left just after the Senate session. Go. Prepare. We will have a ship ready for you in an hour."

Cole bowed and retreated.

Strider bowed as well and went to his room. He grabbed the essentials needed and meditated in his room for a short time, knowing full well Cole was right. Cole was much older than him and although Strider had long since passed his trials, he felt he could learn much from this fellow Knight. He allowed his mind to slow and calm down, finding a center of peace so he would be ready for the complications of his mission.

While the jedi were getting ready to leave, the High admiral of 2nd class looked out sighing as the seperatists had started a bombardment to force the system into a part of the war. This was not much of a problem, actually. Two or three cruisers and loads of fighters and bombers. Most of the seperatists were in hyperspace, going towards the Republic's more important settlements.

The high admiral jumped up as a green bolt of a laser of some sorts penetrated the athmosphere and then a flash came from the space. So, the mimban council had actually constructed the lasers he had given them the plans of. he grinned slightly as his commander came in, his feet klacking together and he saluted.

"Oh, commander. Good that you're here. I want you to take a Mimban cruiser and the Vanquisher and as soon as the jedi are here, escort them safely to Gravola" he said. Gravola was just an ordinary space station with small defencive weaponry of more than obsolete design. The council gathered up there on special ocasions and this was one of them. Inviting jedi to keep peace in a seperatist world was an outrage and more than unusual. This was actually the first time that it happened in the whole history of the New republic. the commander nodded and left with a blank face. Thomas sat back down and opened a small hologram screen of each and every one of the council. "The jedi council has informed of two jedi being sent here. Gravola in three hours" he said and nodded, closing the screen and turning back towards the window, grinning as the other cruiser was destroyed by the laser right next to his palace

Cole finished getting ready and went to find Strider. When he found him, he said nothing, choosing to motion for the younger Jedi to follow him. He spun on one heel and headed toward the docking bay where a ship was waiting to take them to Mimban.

A jedi ship jumped out of hyperspace in the mimban system, Cole and Strider onboard. The Vanquisher appeared somewhere from behind them and a Mimban cruiser came from somewhere below their ship. The radio crackled open and a hologram of the Commander Ackibar appeared inside the jedi ship. "Welcome, Jedi. We were sent here by Grand Admiral El'Karoth to safely get you to the space station of Galindor" he said. "If you want to, the Vanquisher's hangar will be open for your use. Just go and hover over the ship and we shall open the bay doors" he added and then bowed and the hologram disapppeared

Cole watched as the hologram faded and turned to Strider. "Galindor? The Council must have practically forced the Grand Admiral to accept us. We'll be well out of the way there."

He looked up as the Vanquisher flew slowly overhead and opened its docking bay doors. When a tractor beam caught hold of the little shuttle, Cole grimaced slightly.

"I never have liked tractor beams," he muttered. "I've had a couple bad experiences involving them." He looked up at the larger ship again. "But this early on, I don't forsee any difficulties... I'll just have to endure it."

The tractor beam pulled the Jedi shuttle into the docking bay and the shuttle touched down gently. Cole stood, glanced at Strider and turned toward the back of the shuttle to prepare for the transfer to Galindor.

Strider nodded and followed Cole. He seemed rather quieter than usual, but this wasn't unusual to himself. Strider was always quiet at the start of missions, when it came down to thinking and discussing his thoughts, is when he'd start to get talkative again, and that's when he knew Cole would probably be most tuning him out.

The doors of the docking bay opened and the commander came into the huge hall with two soldiers that stayed a couple of feet behind to secure his travel to the jedi shuttle. The commander was calm as always, a blaster hung in it's holster by his side and his commander's hat was a bit hastily put on just like always. That's one of the reasons the High Admiral wanted him to be his 2nd in command. He always acted on the moment. No startegies, no power struggle, everything always went right with him onboard

Cole touched the button that would open the shuttle and walked out onto the ramp. He nodded respectfully to the commander and stepped out onto the floor of the docking bay.

"Thank you for your warm welcome to the Mimban system," he said. "I am Cole, a Knight of the Jedi Order and this is Strider Flamehart, also a Knight of the Order. If there is any way we can help you, let us know." He paused for a moment. "Can I safely assume that we will at some point meet Grand Admiral El'Karoth himself? I should like to offer our services to him in person as well."

"Welcome indeed, jedi" he said before Cole could utter even a noise. He listened to him and signalled for the soldiers to step away. "Oh, but the pleasure is all ours. And yes, you shall meet the Grand Admiral shortly. He is always a part of the council meetings and every time he is in the system, he shall be there himself instead of a hologram. You can only wonder how Grand Admiral El'Karoth can do so many things in so little time" he said and nodded. He signalled for a couple of small creatures, obviously intelligent enought to know how to fuel shuttles. "Hyperspace jumps are always draining for a shuttle the size of yours" he explained as the cratures attatched the large pipe into the side of the jedi shuttle. At that moment, the whole ship shook and red alarm lights started flashing everywhere. The commander excused himself by turning around and raising his right hand and revealing a small holopod installed into something that looked like a wrist watch. He looked as a captain's hologram crackled open and the ship shook again.

"Commander! Seperatist ships are attacking. Theres at least seven of them"

"Damn... Send a word out for the nearest fleet we have and finish those seperatists off"

"Sire, we got a message from the seperatists. They know that we have jedi onboard and they threathen us of trying to suck up twith the republic"

"i said finish them off!"

The hologram disappeared and the commander turned back to the jedi. "I believe it is best if you come with me to the command bridge. It's the most secure place to be when an attack like this occurs" he said and led the way with teh soldiers behind him.

On the bridge, full chaos was going on. Officers running around, the captain trying to get everything together again, alarms ringing and flashes coming from their shields as dozens of fighters attacked the shgield from close range and the seperatist cruisers shooting from the distance. It had taken a few seconds for the Vanquisher and the Mimban cruiser to start shooting back, but even that was too long

"You should know better, jedi" he said with an irritated tone and walked into the turbolift with them, the soldiers staying behind as the doors closed. "With this rate of seperations, the Republic should start calling itself the remnant. For what I know, your arrival was the first step in trying to slip this system back into the Republic. That's why the seperatists are attacking us. They want to make sure that either the system will become a seperatist or there will be no system anymore" he said as the turbolift slowed down and the doors opened again, only to show the captain in distress as he tried to get everyone back into their places. "Attention!" a guard shouted and the clacking of feet hitting together was heard throughout the bridge. "Everyone to their stations! Shields up! Use strategy #66" the commander shouted and looked at the captain, standing next to the captain's chair. The commander continued as he sat down. "Take the captain to wait for his private talk with me"

The cptain was grabbed and dragged into the turbolift that went down with the captain screaming that he's sorry and he would do anything to pay the system back his error. The commander shook his head as the turbolasers fired quickly towards the seperatist ships and a fleet of fighters lkeft the hangars to meet the enemy. The venator-class star destroyer quickly made it's way between two seperatist cruisers and inflicted heavy damage with the artillery hidden on the sides of the ship. The commander looked worried but inside he was laugting, enjoying every second of seeing the enemy lose to two cruisers
