toms Posted September 16, 2005 Share Posted September 16, 2005 Mostly. There is a very cool documentary about bruce lee on the Hong Hong Legends Bruce Lee and Enter the Dragon DVD boxsets. Dunno if its on the US ones too. Most of the stories surrounding him are urban legends, but that doesn't mean that the truth isn't pretty cool too. I still think Bruce Lee LOOKS like the best martial artist ever on film, but its interesting to note that the punches he throws on film are nothing like the punches his technique teaches. His film punches look powerful because he ignores his own rules and telegraphs them by basically using western style punching. If you watch The Big Boss which has him co-starring with a huge star from the previous style of fight coreography you can see why he made such an impact. The other guy looks like hes doing a dance, bruce looks like he's fighting. Combine that with his understanding of camerawork and choreography and you can see why he looked 10 times as powerfull on film as the other guys. But his film fights had little to do with his real techniques and real abilities. If you want to learn more than is humanly possible about Bruce Lee then get the HKL (R2) DVDS, not only do they have at least one feature length documentary, but there is commentary on all the films by Bey Logan, who knows more facts about Hong Kong cinema than anyone alive, and knows most of bruce lee's stunt team as well.
