Random Lyrics

I'm feeling random. I think it's time to post the lyrics to whatever song's on our mind. Just because we're bored.

Diamonds & Gold by Tom Waits

The broken glass

And the rusty nails

Where the violets grow

Say goodbye to the railroad

The mad dogs of summer

and everything that I know

What some men will do here for diamonds

What some men will do here for gold

They're wounded but they just keep on climbing

And they sleep by the side of the road.

There's a hole in the ladder; a fence we can climb

Mad as a hatter; You're thin as dime

Come out to the meadow, the hills are agreen

Sing me a rainbow; steal me a dream

Small time Napoleans

Shattered his knees

But he stays in the saddle for Rose

And all his disciples

They shave in the gutter

And they gather what's left of his clothes

What some men will do here for diamonds

What some men will do here for gold

They're wounded but they just keep on climbing

And they sleep by the side of the road.

Birthday Cake by Cibo Matto

Shut up and eat!

Too bad, no bon appetit!

Shut up and eat!

You know my love is sweet!

Yes, I'm cooking for my son and his wife

It's his 30th birthday

Pour berries into my bowl

Add milk of two months ago

It's moldy mom, isn't it?

I don't give a flying **** though

Shut up and eat!

Too bad, no bon appetit!

Shut up and eat!

You know my love is sweet!

Shut up and eat!

Too bad, no bon appetit!

Shut up and eat!

You know my love is sweet!

It's food nouveau

It's food nouveau

It's the shape of love

Beat it! Beat it up!

Beat it! Beat it up!

Extra sugar, extra salt

Extra oil and MSG

Extra sugar, extra salt

Extra oil and MSG

Shut up and eat!

Too bad, no bon appetit!

Shut up and eat!

You know my love is sweet!

Shut up and eat!

Too bad, no bon appetit!

Shut up and eat!

You know my love is sweet!

You were born in the 60's

We made a war with the Vietnamese

We loved LSD, we died easily

Can we just say c'est la vie?

So what! Say what! For your own sake

Do you have a headache or heartbreak?

Are you made or broken by the birthday cake?

You may be slow on the uptake

I pour pot in the birthday cake

So what! Say what! For my own sake

Watch out yo! Here I come yo!

I'm gonna change to a rattlesnake

Turn up the TV! Do you agree?

Yeah, I'm talking turkey Take it from me

I'm gonna show my love for my dove

But it's moldy, mom, isn't it?

Extra sugar, extra salt

Extra oil and MSG

Extra sugar, extra salt

Extra oil and MSG

Shut up and eat!

Too bad, no bon appetit!

Shut up and eat!

You know my love is sweet!

Shut up and eat!

Too bad, no bon appetit!

Shut up and eat!

You know my love is very sweet!

Probably one of my favourites:

Melancholy mood forever haunts me

Steals upon me in the night

Forever taunts me

Oh, what a lonely soul am I

Stranded high and dry

By a melancholy mood

Gone is every joy and inspiration

Tears are all I have to show

No consolation

All I can see is grief and gloom

Till the crack of doom

Oh, melancholy mood

Deep in the night

I search for a trace

Of a lingering kiss, a warm embrace

But love is a whimsy

And as flimsy as lace

And my arms embrace an empty space

Melancholy mood, why must you blind me

Pity me and break the chains

The chains that bind me

Won't you release me, set me free

Bring him back to me

Oh, melancholy mood

Deep in the night

I search for a trace

Of a lingering kiss, a warm embrace

But love is a whimsy

As flimsy as lace

And my arms embrace an empty space

Melancholy mood, why must you blind me

Pity me and break the chains

The chains that bind me

Won't you release me, set me free

Bring him back to me

Oh, melancholy mood

And set me free

Oh, melancholy mood

Pretty sweet song, makes me want to listen to some Combustible Edison.

Guadaloupe by Combustible Edison

The wind softly drifting along

The Caribbean sunrise

As the day goes by things get slowerand more amusing

Until, finally, in a sudden splash

Of glory

The night begins again

Wild, twisting, two-step, turning

The yearning of young and old alike

The crickets begin with anxiety

Muffled by darkness

Ancient rites of voodoo are brought to mind

In jungles, all things appear to be just what they are

The spirit that lies within

Wild, twisting, two-step, turning

The yearning of young and old alike

Evil by Mercyful Fate

I was born on the cemetery

Under the sign of the moon

Raised from my grave by the dead

I was made a mercenary

In the legions of hell

Now I'm king of pain, I'm insane

You know my only pleasure

Is to hear you cry

I'd love to hear you cry

I'd love to feel you die

And I'll be the first

To watch your funeral

And I'll be the last to leave

I'd love to hear you cry

And when you're down beyond the ground

I'll dig up your body again

And make love to shame

Oh lady cry, and say goodbye, goodbye!

Oh lady cry, and say goodbye, goodbye!

You've gotta say goodbye

'Cause I will eat your mind

Ride on a Shooting Star by the Pillows

Orange slide, the sky that it reflects

Sponge's pride, being dangled

Spider

The apprehension that was caught alive

It's okay even if I don't hide it

I want to dream in color.

Ride on shooting star

With the voice of my heart, like a shotgun

I kept on singing

Grunge hamster, be grown up

Lobster of revenge, bring it along

Sniper

I'll say, "What can you see

In that fringed world?"

I want to touch it before I aim

Ride on shooting star

Searching for you, and in withdrawal syndrome

I told a lie

Ride on shooting star

With the voice of my heart, like a shotgun

I kept on singing

(The English translation may or may not be accurate; I fixed the obvious mistakes)

I've never heard anything by Cimbustible Edison, but I'd like to.

Another of my favourites, this time Russian:

[Translated to English]

Your Honour Miss. Separation

We've been family for so long, that's how it is.

Wait, don't tear the letter in the envelope.

So unlucky in death, I'll be luckier in love.

Your Honour Miss. Foreign Land

Embracing me so warmly, but you never loved.

Wait, don't call me in your sweet nets,

So unlucky in death, I'll be luckier in love.

Your Honour Miss. Luck

For some you are so nice, for other's not.

Wait, Heart, don't call the 9 grams to you.

So unlucky in death, I'll be luckier in love.

Your Honour Miss. Victory

This means that I didn't finish signing my song yet.

Stop, you demons, swearing on blood.

So unlucky in death, I'll be luckier in love.

Hope you like it.

EDIT: Who needs the Russian lyrics of the song?

Half Day Closing by Portishead

In the days, the golden days

when everybody knew what they wanted.

It ain't here today

Through the times of lasting love

When parents talked of things tried and tested

It don't feel the same

Dreams and belief have gone

Time, life itself goes on

Far beyond the shrinking skies

Where money talks and leaves us hypnotised

It don't pave the way

Underneath the fading sun

The silent sum of a businessman

Has left us choking

Dreams and belief have gone

Time, life itself goes on

In the days, the golden days

When everybody know what they wanted

It ain't here today

Dreams and belief have gone

Time, life itself goes on

If there's one modern band I still like, it has got to be Radiohead. Their lyrics are quite meaningful, and their music, especially Greenwood's guitar playing, are simply great.

I'm not going to put the obvious "Creep" or "Karma Police", but two other ones.

Paranoid Android

Please could you stop the noise, I'm trying to get some rest

From all the unborn chicken voices in my head

What's that...? (I may be paranoid, but not an android)

What's that...? (I may be paranoid, but not an android)

When I am king, you will be first against the wall

With your opinion which is of no consequence at all

What's that...? (I may be paranoid, but no android)

What's that...? (I may be paranoid, but no android)

Ambition makes you look pretty ugly

Kicking and squealing gucci little piggy

You don't remember

You don't remember

Why don't you remember my name?

Off with his head, man

Off with his head, man

Why don't you remember my name?

I guess he does....

Rain down, rain down

Come on rain down on me

From a great height

From a great height... height...

Rain down, rain down

Come on rain down on me

From a great height

From a great height... height...

Rain down, rain down

Come on rain down on me

That's it, sir

You're leaving

The crackle of pigskin

The dust and the screaming

The yuppies networking

The panic, the vomit

The panic, the vomit

God loves his children, God loves his children, yeah!

----------------

Exit Music (Used at the credits in the modern version of Romeo & Juliet)

Wake from your sleep,

the drying of your tears,

Today we escape, we escape.

Pack and get dressed

before your father hears us,

before all hell breaks loose.

Breathe, keep breathing,

don't lose your nerve.

Breathe, keep breathing,

I can't do this alone.

Sing us a song,

a song to keep us warm,

there's such a chill, such a chill.

And you can laugh a spineless laugh,

we hope your rules and wisdom choke you.

And now we are one

in everlasting peace,

we hope that you choke, that you choke,

we hope that you choke, that you choke,

we hope that you choke, that you choke.

Cool, another Radiohead fan. I thought about posting the lyrics to Just. Instead, I think I'll go for a song from Turin Brakes' underrated The Optimist LP

Mind Over Money

- Turin Brakes, 2001

Mind over money, bent over backwards

Light up my life like a very last cigarette

Time after time dear, we will just lie here

Staring at ceilings, it doesn't really matter where we are

Wearing a smile like it's going out of style

Look at yourself, there's nothing in there

Just points on a gravestone, can you see yourself sinking

Staring at ceilings, it doesn't really matter where we are

That's alright, I warned myself

Keep blood on the inside and nowhere else

Up on a shelf, that's where I need to be, la da da dee

I need to get something, I can't sleep for red eye

Internal combustion, can that really happen?

I take it back yeah? Whatever I did yeah?

I didn't mean it, I was only joking

What does this matter in the grandscheming sky,

All that I multiply adds up to nothing.

That's alright, I warned myself

Keep blood on the inside and nowhere else

Up on a shelf, that's where I need to be, la da da dee

I'm not a big Radiohead fan but I do love "Paranoid Android".

Anyway these next lyrics are probably among my favorite song lyrics ever but that's after a year or so of not knowing what it was about. It's a song to analyze, without a doubt.

Mr. Krinkle by Primus

Hello, Mr. Krinkle

How are you today?

seems the rumors are about your team might move away

Now, me, I'm sentimental but I'm not one to cry....

Say there, Mr. Krinkle

Let's cruise the bastard boat

Damn them sonsabitches with their gillnets set afloat

Now I flip on my tele and I watch the waters die....

C'mon on, Mr. Krinkle, tell me why

C'mon on, Mr. Krinkle, tell me why

C'mon on, Mr. Krinkle, won't you please tell me why?

Tell me why.....

Hey ho, Mr. Krinkle

Have you heard the brand new sound?

It's a cross between Jimmy Hendrix, Bocephus, Cher, and James Brown

It's called Heavy Hometown New Wave, cold-filtered low-calorie dry....

C'mon on, Mr. Krinkle, tell me why

C'mon on, Mr. Krinkle, tell me why

C'mon on, Mr. Krinkle, tell me why

C'mon on, Mr. Krinkle, tell me why

Mr. Krinkle......

La donna mobile

qual piuma al vento

muta d'accento

e di pensiero

Sempre un'amabile

leggiadro viso

in pianto e in riso

 menzognero

La donna mobil

qual piuma al vento

muta d'accento

e di pensier

e di pensier

e di pensier

 sempre misero

chi a lei s'affida

chi le confida

mal cauto il core

Pur mai non sentesi

felice appieno

chi su quel seno

non liba amore

La donna mobil

qual piuma al vento

muta d'accento

e di pensier

e di pensier

e di pensier

<<<La Donna e Mobile>> It's opera.

Counting_Pine, great to know you like Radiohead as well. I love the video for Just.

Another great song from another modern band:

Auf Achse, by Franz Ferdinand.

You see her, you can't touch her

You hear her, you can't hold her

You want her, you can't have her

You want to, but she won't let you

You see her, you can't touch her

You hear her, you can't hold her

You want her, you can't have her

You want to, but she won't let you

She's not so special so look what you've done, boy

She's not so special so look what you've done, boy

She's not so special so look what you've done

Now you wish she'd never come back here again

Oh, never come back here again

You see her, you can't touch her

You hear her, you can't hold her

You want her, you can't have her

You want to, but she won't let you

You see her, you can't touch her

You hear her, you can't hold her

You want her, you can't have her

You want to, but she won't let you

She's not so special so look what you've done, boy

She's not so special so look what you've done, boy

She's not so special so look what you've done

Now I'm nailed above you

Gushing from my side

It's with your sings that you have killed me

Thinking of your sins I die

Thinking how you'd let them touch you

How you'd never realise

That I'm ripped and hang forsaken

Knowing never will I rise

Again

You still see her

Oh, you hear her

You want her

Oh, you want to

You see her

You hear her

You want her

You still want to
