New Round of Questions!

Now that you have had a chance to play with the demo (not to mention mod the heck out of it :) ) it's time for another round of "ask the designer".

Hopefully one of our wonderful moderators can compile and select 5 questions that you want answered. You may want to hold off until after the dev chat this evening in case your questions are answered there. Once you have them compiled, I will answer them as soon as I can and repost here.

Once again, thanks for all of your feedback - it is much appreciated, and it always helps us to make a better game.

How this Q&A is gonna work, click here or scroll down :D

Heh, what so problem with the mods ppl :)? The moderators can't stop deleting/locking the threads that refer to them. Sure, we don't do it on purpose, but just to show the people out there what great things are covered behind (although i still cannot get those infilitrators appearing!!! -i know, they're commandos, but not that "covered" as to be invisible :)).

Right on the topic:

1. Is the ground camera controls (angle) fixed in the final/later versions, so as you can rotate it in full control, no matter the zoom level, just like the space camera control? Like in Force Commander, if i can mention this Star Wars RTS example.

2. Are there firing range indications both for ground and space units? We cannot see any in the demo, which, in many cases ends up brining your forces to close to the enemy and get anihilated (not to mention those torpedoe launchers that undeploy automatically from their defense points....).

3. In the demo, the AA turret looks to be an "all-purpose" turret; it hits a squad of troops better than an anti-infantry turret and can damage a vehicle better than an anti-vehicle turret...not to mention it's firing range, which is greater than both the above-mentioned "specialised" turrets! Does this apply for the final version as well or not?

4. The indigenous life (animals) is getting killed or not, in the final version? It is weird to see a bantha surviving through the debris of a bombding run

Mind that the questions are set as "most important --> less important", so, don't pick the last one if you're to pick one.

Well, im done. I hope no wonderful moderator will lock this or "edit" it :smash: .

As far as I know we moderators are not trying to "clamp down" on any mod discussion. The only threads that were moved were due to being put in the wrong forums, duplicate topics or ones that had gotten off track. ;)

If the game devs have no problem with the mods and we recieve no complaints from LucasArts, then it's cool by me. Most games they have some kind of strict rules against modding a demo, but with this particular game that doesn't seem to be the case by all appearances. And these aren't really "new levels" anyway, they're just hacks that let unlock stuff you normally wouldn't get, and give you more money/units/planets available.

Off topic, but just to be clear, we read ALL comments and suggestions, negative or otherwise. Delphi-PG, myself, and many of the other guys here at Petroglyph read as many of the fan sites as possible given our schedule. Negative feedback is just as important as positive feedback. While it is pretty much too late at this point to change any of the main systems in the game, we can certainly use the feedback going forward to new projects and to support EaW once it launches.

As to the mods, I really can't comment on this yet - since the game is ultimately the property of LucasArts, it falls on them to set the policy. That's likely something else you will want to ask at the Dev Chat this evening :)

I guess LEC ppl were caught off-guard so, there's no reason to attract their attention, is there? :)

And one more question, pretty important (in my humble opinion) just like the camera issue.

3. We know that when a battle/invation is initiated, then the galactic mode freezes. I tried -by mistake is the truth :)- the following actions; while invading Tatoine, i move a fleet of Y-Wing from Vergesso Asteroids to Tatoine. The invation was initiated when the fleet was a bit before reaching the planet's orbit. The outcome? No bombing runs were available when the invation was in progress. So, is the galactic map completely frozen while on all battle occasions?

I don't know if this has been confirmed in PFF. What i know is an old statemenet that "it could be very complicated if galactic mode was going on while a battle is in progress". Yet, i don't know if there's any problem of handling one battle after another, even if they are "initiated" while a battle is already occuring. You battle on Tatoine and you get a message that the enemy has reclaimed orbit control; so, you play the ground battle and after this, you play the space one. I see no problem here...(and the point is that i really wanted to bombard those imps :)).

LucasArts has a pretty good history with modders, letting mods like the SW mod for Battlefield keep going while they had Battlefront getting ready to release, etc. I honestly wouldn't worry about it. I think they're confident in the superiority of the final release over the mods and I'm right there with them. :)

Yes, the galactic map is completely frozen.

Maybe I did something wrong but in the demo I didn't get any acknowledgement from starfighters with the guard command. Will it be possible, (and hopefully effective), to have say a squad of xwings escort a squad of ywings and then be able to only order the ywings on targets and trust that they continue to be escorted? As it is, I just have a rather unwieldy mob of multiple xwing squadrons. Also, why are the fronts of star destroyers pointy?

Just a heads up to everyone is to how this Question and Answer will be set up/organized.

Everyone, first post your questions here, any questions you got put 'em here for the developers to see. Then us mods/admins will select the best 10-15 questions and then create a poll where everyone can vote on there favorite questions. The top five (or more possibly :D) questions will be sent on to Torpid for the Q&A. Though no deadline is set, submission of questions will probably be over this Friday. We will then put the poll up late saturday/sunday and then submit the questions wednesday. These deadlines can/probably will change depending on how many questions you guys submit.

So get those questions rolling in!

1) In the campaign map, is it possible to physically add new factions into the game, with the scale and function of the Empire and Rebellion? What I mean is, is it possible to have a war with five or so different sides fighting eachother as opposed to just two?

Just thought I'd ask again

Here's my question...

"The empire has the following heroes on their side: Darth Vader, The Emperor, and Mara Jade among others. That's three (count 'em) THREE force-powered characters. Now this seems a bit lop-sided when you consider the fact that Obi-Wan is the ONLY force-powered character on the rebellion side. It's already been announced that Kyle Katarn will remain force-less, and that Luke can't even participate in ground battles (he remains in Red Squad.) So what's the deal? Do Rebels get Yoda or Qui-gons ghost or something?"

Thanks Lucasarts, Petroglyph, and DMUK for keeping us well informed. :)

What mod tools will be made availible?

where will the official tools go from and to.

eg will we only be able to edit the xml or will we have access to the lua files model formats to create convertors and so on or will the community have to create their own tools

(providing lucasarts licencing isnt a problem)

We already know that the Death Star is only for destroying planets, even by the time frame you it cannot. The only way that could ever happen is through a mod (or an expansion).

As well what would happens involving the hero regeneration in after one is "injured" by regular enemies?

In the demo, I was able to complete the Vergasso Asteriods and Tatooine with just Han and Chewie (albiet with difficulty). Would this have been possible in the full game, and do all heros have such powerful combat potential?

-------------------------------------------------------

In the full game, you wouldn't have been able to do it if there was any presence on the planet.

The heros don't have balances but have great special abilities that can tip the balance of the battle.

in the last q&a they said that heros arnt as powerful in the presents. presence of what?

I love the demo and I have a question. What will base-building be like?

-------------------------------------------------------

You build strategic structures (mining, research, etc) in galactic mode. In tactical mode you build tactical structures (like turrets, bacta tanks, etc) that persist... unless someone destroys it.

do i have to rebuild my turret thats on my build pad the next time my planet is attacked?

One of Ptro employees said something about upgrading shield generators to particle shields. What is the difference?

-------------------------------------------------------------

The regular shield just stops energy weapons. The upgrade stops all other projectiles as well.

i know the bigger shield has a bigger diamitor around the base, like almost the entire map, can we have both shields in the same time, on the same planet?

In the demo, if you brought more units into a space battle your forces were selected for you. Will it be possible to select your units before entering a battle, or will your forces always be selected for you?

-------------------------------------------------------

You can control what's in the battle by selectively splitting your fleet into an initial invasion fleet and a follow-up second fleet.

how do you selectivly split your fleet for an initial invation fleet and a follow-up second fleet!!!!????
