What is it with phone booths and time traveling? First Dr. Who, then Bill & Ted...

Come to think of it phone booths play an important place in many a sci-fi tale. The Matrix, for example. Let's not forget Superman...

Methinks there's a thesis in here somewhere... ahhh, I can't be bothered.

its humanities subconcious outcry over our dislike of small enclosed spaces and the ways our minds represent them as more than physical objects to allow us to survive within them...

I am aware of at least six methods of travelling through time:

A slingshot manoeuvre around a star. This is very difficult and dangerous because if the calculations are off even by a degree, the starship will go out of control (at best), or be destroyed (at worst).

The phone booth from the future capable of travelling along the Circuits of Time. The booth is cramped and uncomfortable, but generally dependable and easy to repair.

Doc Brown's Delorean. Any vehicle equipped with a flux capacitor can breach the temporal fabric when it reaches 88 miles per hour. The Delorean is very accurate, but can travel only through time, meaning that you will be in the same location when you suddenly appear on a set of train tracks or in front of a stampede.

The Key of Time used by Rini to travel between the 30th and 20th centuries. The Key of time can (usually) only carry one traveller at a time, and all time travellers must confront Sailor Pluto, who lives inside the "Timestream," and may be an artificial life-form.

The Phoenix Gate. The gate is powered by magic and draws the user to a certain event that they must concentrate on. Like all magical travel, the gate has a mind of its own, and will take a traveller (called a "TimeDancer") where they need to be rather than where they wish to go. The gate is also difficult to control, although it does have a built-in translator (allowing TimeDancers to speak the language of where/whenever they appear), and possibly a homing/anchor system that pulls the TimeDancer back to his or her "proper" timeline regardless of any changes made.

The Song of Time, when played on the Ocarina of Time, by a Guardian of Time, will allow travel to certain time-coordinates. Like the Phoenix Gate, the Song and Ocarina will only transport travellers where they are needed, and the traveller has no control over the destination. This system requires both the Song itself and the Ocarina, as a measure of security.

To future Admiral:

How many swords do you have now? How many batches of Beer made. How is Star Wars Galatic Battlegrounds and Morrowind? How was being a senior in HS? Are you still alive?

Time Travel Method #7: scan traveler into transporter buffer, translate pattern feed into quantum spin-reversed tachyons which are emitted through main deflector. When the tachyons decay and the physical pattern is recoalesced, traveler will be in the past. Altering quantum spin direction and acceleration vectors adjust placement to any point in time.

Starfleet would be really pissed if they caught me divulging this. Fortunately I escaped into their past, and they can't find me. biggrin.gif

Time Travel Method #8: The Vortex

Little is known about the Vortex. It is a monstrous storm-like disturbance and the Vortex itself is at least a mile across. It has only occured four in all of known history and both times in the same location. It appeared December 5, 1941, December 7, 1941 and twice at some point in the middle of the 1980s off of Hawaii. The USS Nimitz and her fighter wing were transported from the 80s to December 5, 1941 in the direct path of the oncoming Japanese fleet. The Nimitz itself suffered significant damage to her electrical systems during transit. However, when she and her wing (which was airborne at the time, as they had been massing to attack the Japanese) were transported back, no damage was taken.

We've been going about this all wrong. This Mr. Stay Puft is okay. He's a sailor, he's in New York.

We get this guy laid, we won't have any trouble.
