obXI
"It's over Anikan! I've got the High Ground!" As so we remember Obi-wan giving Anikan his last warning before the young Sith took his fatal leap. But we will also remember our dear Obi-wan hanging in peril below a gloating Darth Maul. Not only did Maul have the "high ground" but Obi-wan was also without a weapon. And what happened? In a single leap Maul was completely owned...in two. So what's with the "high ground" anyway? Is this a bluff? Some sort of taunt to take advantage of a Sith Lord's overconfidence? In both battles Obi-wan had an endless parry with his opponents. Yet in the air with Maul he delivered a fatal strike, and Anikan trying the same move got both legs and an arm cut off. The "high ground" has a proven fatal result, but always to Obi-wan's advantage.
coupes.
Maul was surprised by Obi-Wan, as he tought he had beaten him. He got arogant and careless, Obi-Wan took this opportunity to strike him down. In the case of Anakin, they pretty much were even in the fight, matching each other blow for blow. But when Obi-Wan gained the higher ground, he knew he had an advantage, but Anakin was blinded by his rage and rushed in anyways... Two different situations... But higher ground is usually a pretty good advantage in a fight, be it a sword fight, or a gun fight.
YertyL
I wouldn't exactly say they were even... even though Obi-Wan held his own, there are some scenes that show the superiority of Anakin - him holding with one hand against Obi's two, him repeatedly managing to kick and almost strangle Obi-Wan, and of course his monumental jump from the lava fall - when Anakin says "This is the end for you, my master.", you can IMHO see in Obi-Wan's face that he thinks so too. Anakin had a reason to be arrogant - yet it still caused his downfall. I find it cooler that Anakin loses despite his greater physical power - it's a nice analogy to the general Jedi-Sith relation. Although the Sith momentarily achieve more than the jedi, the light triumphs in the end
popcorn2008
I would say personally Ankain had a small advantage in the fight. When Obi-Wan said "It's over Anakin I have the high ground," I believe he said that not because he actually meant it but to stirr up Anakin's rage. Because he knew that by saying it that way Anakin would want to prove that just because Obi-Wan has the high ground doesnt mean anything to him, and that he is so powerful he can jump over Obi-Wan and continue the fight. But Anakin in his own rage didnt realize this wasnt possible, and instead of being careful and even doing a small jump he wanted to over do it, to show he had superior power. My interpretation anyway
coupes.
Obi-Wan was saying the truth about the higher ground... Yes, Anakin is more powerful than Obi-Wan and yes he did have the advantage on Obi-Wan on some occasions because of this. But overall, they were pretty even because Obi-Wan is more experienced and more importantly, in control of his emotions. Remember, they fought for about 10 minutes or so, which is pretty long for a sword fight. Anyways, the bottom line is than Obi-Wan didn't want to kill Anakin, and that's why he told him not to jump, because he knew he had the better position. Not to make him jump and kill him... PoiuyWired
Well, Ani should just Sith Lightning up Obi at that position seriously.
MachineCult
lol, Anakin didn't learn Sith Lightning. He was a Sith for about a day before he became "more machine than man."
obXI
The "higher ground" ploy would only work to a peaceful end if it went like this. Obi-wan: It's over Anikan! I have the High Ground! Anikan: Dammit! You beat me at everything! *throws down saber and cries* It was a taunt. Anikan could've easily repostioned himself some other way, he was so consumed with the darkside he went for the whole gig. I just think it's funny how Obi-wan pulled the higher ground act when he knew good and well that he has won some tight battles from a lower position. Not only against Maul but Grievous as well. Though we all know Maul had his chatbox up anyway and Obi-wan lamed him.
Davinq
May I suggest that when Obi-wan made this condemning statement, that he knew already what Anakin was about to do as a result of his duel with Maul?
KyleOfHarpenden
i think that obi-wan was more powerful because in all the fights he was stopping himself from using the dark side and he was holding himself back from killing anikan he wanted to fight the emparor even if it ment death rather than fight anikan, he was more clever but i think by the bit where they where on the like boat thing obi-wan knew he had to kill him coz his eyes where like all pupal and when anikan kills other people his eyes turn orange. Greenelf9
Obi-wan said "I have the high ground" because he wanted the fighting to stop. Though Anakin was entrenched in the dark side, Obi-wan still wanted to try to bring his apprentice back to the light. He wanted Anakin to realize the inevitable and give up the fight before Obi-wan was forced to hurt him.
itchythesamurai
I think it'd be out of character for Obi-Wan to try and pull a deceptive fast one on Anakin like that. After all, they were like brothers, Obi-Wan cared a lot about that guy.

PoiuyWired
Well, that happens cause Anakin double-posts in the Jedi Forums. That, or because Ani have been using Darkside Powers, and that would is not his first time either.

Obi Wan would not taunt Anakin. He loved him. Obi Wan looked at the situation and knew there was no way Anakin could win. However, he knew Anakin would think he could pull it off. Obi Wan was basically saying, "I love you, and I don't want to kill you, but I will if I have to. Please, don't make me kill you."

ch0g0nda
It was more of a metaphorical death. I'd say it's more fitting to place his TOD during the slaughter at the Jedi Temple or perhaps when he sliced off Mace Windu's hand and pleaged allegance to the sith... Losing a few more limbs doesn't seem like much for someone as wreckless as Anakin.

RC-1162
or near death. anyway, as Obi Wan Kenobi said, there are different points of view, so you could say that Anakin died and Vader was born. truly born, i mean.
