Ok well ive just about had it with this freaking game and i was just getting ready to go take it back to wal mart and demand i get my money back or store credit but since i really love this game and i wish i could play it im going to give it one more chance by asking for some advice on here so hopfully you guys can help me out. I just got this game yesterday and i love it but like every 10 mins or so something goes wrong like the doors and me and the other team members all go black until i move around same with some consoles and enemys. Next it will just make me lag around the room uncontrolable until i just cant move at all and last but not least it will just freeze though this has only happened twice i feel i have not seen the last of it. I really hope there is something i can do so i too can enjoy this great game. I have also patched to the lastest version and i have not DLed anything like mods. My pc is a X2 4800, 2 gigs of ram, one 7800 GTX.

Thanks for the help,

Nick

Here's what I would do:

1) Make sure you have updated the game. The patches are necessary.

2) Make sure you have the most recent drivers for your video card and sound card.

3) Set your computer's resolution to match the game's resolution. With the specs you have, you should be able to run it on higher resolution.

4) If your computer came with an integrated chipset, make sure the drivers for it are uninstalled.

5) Check to see if your video card is enabled in Device Manager. The path is Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > Display Adapters.

5) You can also check to see if your computer's BIOS is enabling the integrated chipset. Check your computer's tech support page to see how to enter your motherboard's BIOS and disable it.

May the Force be with you!

wow cool thanks for replys guys i was almost about to just call it quits on trying but anyways. I have tried all what you guys have said but nothing:(. The only thing im thinking about is if my sound card on the mobo since i really dont have a card is upgraded but i think it is since i went to my mobo website and upgraded to the lastest patch for my mobo so im thinking that might have got it too but i dont know going to check here in a sec. Plus would the sound chip on the mobo be able to cause the type of problems i have explaned?

I think the graphics area is giving you trouble. While I'm no computer specialist, I've had the exact same problems you had. And I use a Raedon 7000 (yes, well...). Try downloading the ATI Catalyst Control center. I'm not sure where the link is, but i think RedHawke can give it to you. And also, in the game when you're playing, press Esc and in the menu that comes up (save, load, etc) click on the 'graphics' button. In that, you will see two options called "grass" and "shadow". Disable them by clicking on the round thing next to them. Once i did this, it improved my game's performance drastically. Hope this helps :)

I've noticed this is not always a good thing when playing older games. KotOR1 in particular tended to act horribly and had poorer graphics quality when using newer versions of ATI OpenGL drivers than 4.9 back when I was playing it. (Fortunately it was sufficient to extract the OpenGL DLL file from those older drivers and plop it in the main KotOR folder, since other games worked better with the newer drivers.)

I suppose this is only natural since the developers had a specific set of drivers to work against when they made the game. And since both nVidia and ATI drivers are massive hacks that have enormous amounts of application-specific patches and tends to break as much as they fix every update. Apparently it's too much work for them to start over and focus on making one uniform, stable driver platform developers could work against whose core functionality wouldn't change once per month.

(I've lost count of the number of times new ATI Catalyst driver versions have broken Neverwinter Nights in one way or another. :))

yeah i have heard of that and i did also try that but i only rolled back to 82.41 since in the release notes for it said something about fixing poor performance for kotor 2 dual core cpus but even after that it still had those problems but i have also read somewhere in my endless amoutr of research that the 70.00 series nvidia drivers work and the 80.00 and 90.00 do not but im not really sure i wanna go back all that way because i play other games like ghost recon advanced warfighter and etc.. But should i and if i do how much will that affect the new games i play?

Thanks for reply

he's right about some drivers sucking. But RIGHT now I just beat the game with xtreme G drivers installed with no stutters. Try going to tweaksrus.com and downloading the xtreme G drivers for your card. If that doesn't work, try sound card, you never know.
