Samuel Dravis Posted September 18, 2006 Share Posted September 18, 2006 I know both of these are pretty old, but I just watched them the other day so bear with me. I had heard about Requiem from that TTT trailer, with the orchestral remix of the theme from it. I really liked the sound, very epic, but it wasn't available on the market, so I picked up the Requiem soundtrack instead. I like it a lot (recommended definitely if you like instrumental and violins), which made me want to watch the movie. It had a score of 8.4/10 at imdb and a 98% rating from users at rottentomatoes, so I figured it was a pretty safe bet. I was wrong. It starts out ok, characters are a little seedy but w/e, it's a movie. Problem is, it doesn't stay that way. Eventually all the characters are absolutely and totally destroyed. They're not dead; that would be too nice. They've just lost all semblance of free willed people. The old lady goes insane, the two male characters get sent to jail (one with his arm amputated), -and the girl is debased utterly b/c of her drug addiction. Not a fun movie, and one I will never, ever watch again. That doesn't mean it was badly done; rather, it was done very well, which is why I don't want to see it again. Summary: Well done, but not pleasant at all. Pi was more interesting. I liked it. You can definitely see the similarities between the themes and setting of the both movies (both directed by Aranofsky). It centers around a number theorist trying to make a program to predict the stock market, but it doesn't work quite like he expected. Pretty good. It's in b&w, which was interesting. There's not too many movies made like that anymore. So anyone have thoughts on these movies? My friends have recommended both of these movies to me several times, but I've never gotten around to watching them. coupes. Posted September 18, 2006 Share Posted September 18, 2006 Both movies are absolutely amazing ! Π (Pi) requires you to think a little as it's very far from the average "Hollywood Flick". Everything about this movie is great, the acting, the photography, the amazing storytelling. As for Requiem For a Dream... this movie is pure genious ! From the amazing soundtrack to the over the top photography, this movie has so much style. I thought Jared Leto, Ellen Burstyn and Jennifer Connelly we really great. This movie however deals with difficult subjects and in a very raw manner. I strongly suggest you don't watch this movie by yourself or if you're feeling down. Still, it was pretty depressing to me (of course, I generally watch more lighthearted movies, so..). That scene when the nurse tells Harry that Marion will come when he is in the hospital bed after his arm gets amputated and he says, "no, she won't" was pretty powerful. Also, I felt pretty sorry for Sara Goldfarb. She just wanted to be on TV.. Requiem = Porn in some scenes (moreso in the NC17 verson) but still a really great film.Ya, s'why I picked up the rental ® version. I liked Pi (see a part of it in my sig). I can hardly believe that they would show an R rated movie in a high school.It was indeed high school, and at a Catholic school to boot I don't really know why we watched it. Ratmjedi Posted October 13, 2006 Share Posted October 13, 2006 I rented Requiem for a Dream last night and all I can say is wow. It really was a good movie even though it was real dark. I couldnt help but feel sorry for them all in the end. Especially Harry since he told his mom what would happen. I watched it alone and it didn't bother me at all.
