Let's Face the Music - Taco Ockerse

Only discovered this the other week. His musical "niche" seems to be doing New Wave covers of depression-era oldies. I'm tempted to go a buy his first album, which came out in 1981 :) I think he also released a cover album, composed entirely of Glenn Miller songs, and Glenn Miller is just awesome on his own :D

Deep Dish - Dreams

It's an old Fleetwood Mac song, and i just love the way the implemented it in this new song. Much better then those 'fake 80's Dance songs' like 'Moving too fast' recently, r*aping a Phil Collins song.

Yes...I like 80's music, and can't stand abuse of it. :)

Hmmm, as far as new music goes, I've been listening to the theme song from Casino Royale a lot. It's You Know My Name by Chris Cornell (the former lead singer of Soundgarden and the current lead singer of Audioslave).

Dude, that's awesome. I've listened to that song 157 times since December. More than any song I have listened to from my iPod. I like that song a lot too. :D

I am also listening to Casino Royale soundtrack. It is composed by David Arnold, who happens to have the same last name as I do. :)

I also take a fancy to Audioslave, mainly due to Chris Cornell being the lead singer to it.

At the moment, I have started to listen to some German-type of music. But, I am sure that many of you guys have heard of them.

Rammstein is what I am primarily listening too. A pal of mine hooked me up with a bunch of his songs. About 30. And I've been listening to it very often. The songs that I have a favouritism towards are

  • Zwitter ("Hermaphrodite")
  • Sonne ("Sun")
  • Feuer Frei! ("Fire at will!" or "Open fire!", literally "Fire freely!")
  • Mein Teil ("My part")
  • Benzin ("Petrol" or "Gasoline")
  • Reise, Reise ("Arise, Arise" or "Journey, journey")
  • Der Meister ("The master")
  • Keine Lust ("No desire" or "Don't feel like it")
  • Stein Um Stein ("Stone by stone")

Some other bands I have interests in are Megaherz which is now defunct. This is also a German-metal type band (it's really the only metal type of music I take a liking too). I like Wer Bist Du? (Who Are You?), the song.

Another German band I have (the last one) is Eisbrecher, in which, the leader singer was also from Megaherz. The song, Verggismeinnicht ("Forget me not"), would top the list for moi.

That's what I've been listening to at the current moment.

Pain--Three Days Grace (Pottsie will like this one)

Three Days Grace is one of the coolest rock bands at the moment, and I would recommend anybody who likes rock to listen to the, it would be worth it, also, listen to:

Animal I have become

I hate everything about you

Both by TDG, they are very good.

Blind Guardian's Nightfall in Middle-Earth This is a concept album based on J.R.R. Tolkien's Silmarrilion book. It takes different events from the book and makes them into songs. Musically the band is a combination of power metal and progressive metal. This is one of my favorite albums of all time.

Hell, I love Rammstein too. :D

My favourites are "Du Hast", "Amerika", "Moskau", "Mein Teil", "Mutter" and "Rammstein" but my favourite is "Reise, Reise". "Tier" and "Morgenstern" are good, too.

Well, I am still listening to some Rammstein, and those other German bands I've listed in my other post.

But, I also enjoy listening to music that comes from movie soundtracks. Generally, the orchestral-based music. For example, Pirates of the Caribbean, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and Casino Royale top my list.

Foundations of Stone which is composed by Howard Shore from the Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers soundtrack. This is the first song on the soundtrack. And is one of my favourite songs from this specific soundtrack. I also like the music from that is composed during the battle of Helm's Deep.

From Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, there are a few songs I have on my iPod that listen to frequently. Wheel of Fortune, The Kraken, and Davy Jones. These songs are composed by Hans Zimmer.

I also listen to the soundtracks of David Arnold of Casino Royale and John Williams of Star Wars. :)

The Dregs - Bloodsucking Leeches - Industry Standard

Steve Morse is a force of nature on the guitar. Kind of scary that he can play that fast, that melodically inventive, and still pick each and every note. Then pick up a classical guitar and take your head off with some perfectly played Bach like classical thing with counterpoint to spare.

Don't believe me? ;)

Well, here's a couple of video clips I came across the other day to illustrate these 2 points:

Steve Morse - Tumeni Notes:

Steve Morse - Classical-ish Pieces: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIu7UA-823Y

Watch em' and weep... I know I do. Damn, I wish I could play like that...

Oh yeah... I almost forgot his country chicken-pickin' side...

Legion Of The Damned - Bleed For Me

Good song even though I'm not a Legion Of The Damned fan.

And about Within Temptation it is 1 of the best bands we have here in The Netherlands yet they still suck, that really tells something about the music here in The Netherlands.

EDIT: About Rammstein, here they are really overrated and the music isn't really great but live they are amazing.

Man with a Mission - Bad Religion

I love this band, they pretty much changed the way I thought about music, and in particular, Punk Rock. When I first got their 1989 album "No Control", I thought it was the best thing I'd heard at the time, and its only 26 minutes long. Their later material is far more melodious, or is that harmonious? Whichever, but the fact still remains that they are one of my favourite bands, and probably always will be.

Bad Religion are very good, my favourite album would be "Stranger Than Fiction" though...I hope you've heard of the Ramones, THE best punk band, period!

Are You Ready

I've been listening to a lot of All That Remains lately, a very good American metalcore band, songs I'd recommend: This Calling, Six, The Deepest Gray, Tattered on my Sleeve, It Dwells in Me...

Also check out Plus 44, the new band from Blink 182's Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker...It's good stuff!

Who hasn't heard the Ramones? They're awesome. Stranger Than Fiction is a cracking album, I was listening to part of it yesterday in fact! Another one of my favourite bands are the Clash, I have all their albums except for their last one.

Right now, I'm listening to alot of Psychobilly/Rockabilly, namely bands like Koffin Kats, Reverend Horton Heat, The Astounding Roy Gorbisons, Nekromantix, Stray Cats, stuff like that. Basically once I devour one music genre, only then do I move on to the next one :)

As in "here" do you mean Germany?

I wouldn't mind going to one of their concerts. I've never been to one before. It'd be pretty neat to go one.

It's my Life by Bon Jovi from the album, Crush. The album was released in 2000. It's really the only song from "Bon Jovi".

Did you know it was the number one song in Finland at one point? XP

Leslie West aka The Great Fastby who along with Felix Pappalardi formed Mountain in 69. Mountain had one big with Mississippi Queen which is not a staple of Classic Rock Radio. Besides being an excellent guitarist he is also known for his signature tone sound. I live the tone of his guitar.

The album that I am listening to is Dodgin' the Dirt

I Disappear

Wherever I May Roam

Master of Puppets

King Nothing

Songs by one of the greatest rock group of all time, Metallica, which is one of my favorite groups due to their music, which is out of this world.

Guitar and drumbs mixed with the lyrics equals very addictive music, which Metallica has mastered, giving their fans what they like, hardcore rock.

The Last Mall - Steely Dan - Everything Must Go

Steely Dan: Sophisticated music with intelligent lyrics, presented through a jaded, jaundiced looking glass looking towards the seedy side of modern urban life.

Slathered thick with some economical yet killer playing by some of the best studio sidemen in the business. And all wrapped up in the best produced and recorded pop/jazz/rock albums in the history of recording.

In other words: Great stuff! :D

Am I the only one still in the illusion that Metallica is trash metal?

Speaking of Metallica, I'm currently listening to Path by Apocalyptica, a cello quartet from Finland most commonly known for their rather unique covers of Metallica songs. Aside from covers they do melodies (can't really call them songs since there are no vocals) of their own as well, and I believe Path to be one of them. :)

Soulful Terrain - Eric Johnson - Tones

Off his first major label album. Overall I find this CD to be way too heavy on his weaker poppy-ish vocal tracks... but the instrumental tracks on this record are among my favorites. Great-sounding CD though...

Zap (another instrumental off the same album)

Cliffs Of Dover (His most famous track)

Man, I didn't realize it came out that long ago. Haven't heard that one in ages (Cliffs of Dover) though. good tune.
