X-Wing Alliance for Windows XP

You should be able to play XWA in WinXP without doing anything special. There is an installation pitfall to watch for: if you receive an error message referencing the file autoexec.nt when attempting to install, just copy autoexec.nt from the Windows\Repair folder to the Windows\system32 folder and try installing again...you should find the installation then works.

I would also like to play this game on Windows XP, but everytime I try to install it, nothing happens. I get no setup screen and nothing ever shows up in the task manager. I am trying to install on a Windows XP MCE 2005 PC. Does anyone know what I can try to get it to work?

Try installing in Safe Mode...boot-up, but keep pressing F8 during the self-test until you get a menu. There will be a choice for Safe Mode in the menu, so choose that, let the boot-up finish, then try installing the game. If you get the game installed, you can then run it under normal Windows XP.
