It all needs to be subtle, gay or straight, and that's not a religious thing for me. It's a Star Wars game, not a porn game. I don't need my kids seeing 'The Wild Thang' in a PG-13 game, and it's not in keeping with the spirit of SW anyway. SW is supposed to be family-friendly. There are plenty of other places to get a sex-fix. SW isn't one of those places.

That being said, I do enjoy the romance options, and I missed it in TSL. I know some don't feel Jedi should have romances, but they also have the options not to select the romance dialog options in the game, too, if they don't want to roleplay that way. I'd like to see the romance option return for K3.

Well I'm sure no-one wants to play a sex scene or anything hehe. I agree a subtle approach is best. Good both for people who don't want to play it and avoiding (hopefully) clunky ep III style dialogue.

I have no real problem with gays or lesbians unless they try to force it on me for I am tri. Which means I will try anything once *Laugh*

Anyway, in any case it would be alright but some parents (its a PG-13 game, keeps this in mind) would not let their children buy it. Most of the games are bought at the ages between 12-20. So really, people might not want it because of it.

Most people think it is bad and the United States, I know, has been trying to outlaw it. I know a number of people who believe Star Wars is all about bringing the good from people (despite the dark side versions.) If they found Lesbians + Gays were in the game they would most likely not buy it...

Unless you deal with the fanfic boards. (Let me brew some more tea while this really dark and definitely not for kids Anakin/Padme fic loads up...)

I don't want anything explicit either. This isn't the "Hot Coffee" mod for GTA we're talking about.

A trait that does distinguish Star Wars from other SF series, though, is a willingness to let heroes marry and have families without them being killed off at episode's end or pre-series. I mean, Star Trek was pretty much allergic to the subject. One-nighters were de riguer, and the only wedding on ST: TOS was interrupted by the death of the groom. It took until TNG to even approach the subject, and only with a semi-regular guest. Joss Wheadon had to fight tooth and nail to get Wash and Zoe depicted as hitched (Come Big Damn Movie, however...).

OK folks, I've now deleted at least 5 off-topic posts that were starting to move towards the flamey variety, and I have edited several more in under 3 hours in this less-than-day old thread. Deleting/editing over 20% of a thread's posts makes me An Unhappy Moderator. If you all continue the off-topic arguing, I'll close the thread and hand out warnings to the offenders. I'd rather not close the thread because this is an interesting topic for a lot of people, but I'm not about to allow a flame war to develop here. Everyone chill out and stay on-topic.

Thank you Jae Onasi, "The Momerator". (Love that Avatar. Perfect for a mom lol)

Anyway, I believe if there were gay or Lesbian romances in it it would be subtle. A lot of people wouldn't like the game to much for that. In short, to keep people from having problems with "offensive" content there really shouldn't be one in my mind. People can make mods for that like "Female Revan and Bastila...The untold love story." Its not like I am trying to be rude or racist in any way but really I think its too much for the game.

Indeed, sexuality is a topic I think that should be left off a SW forum people, its a controversial subject and this is after all a SW forum, which should be a family friendly place - so lets keep it clean! :) So lets not talk about what we think about it and return to the plain old topic.

Personally I tend not to do the Romance option so much, (in my SW universe Revan is a LS woman and she might fall in love with Carth, but thats for after KotOR finishes!). And the only person in TSL I would of considered romancing (in my SW universe LS male) is Mira but can't go anywhere with that one. Doesn't really bother me as I don't play the game for that reason, that said I definatly think that romance options of a subtle nature (no more than a kiss) should be around for those who wish to pursue that path. :)

^ I agree. The kiss between Bastila and male Revan was sweet, and IMHO just enough for the KOTOR type of game. There's a mod I've found that allows Carth and female Revan to kiss, too. What's better is that you actually *see* it happen - no unimpressive fade-outs. That, I think, is enough.

I'll confess that I really like Atton in TSL. I played TSL before KOTOR, though (yeah...talk about plot gaps!), so I wasn't aware of KOTOR's better romance options. But I'm still reasonably happy with TSL. In my first playthrough, I saw (probably invented) lots of subtext that kept me hoping for a kiss. Even though I never got it, the subtext made quite an impression on me.

Oh yeah, and I do write fanfics (PG ones, mind you). I invent stuff all the time.

Tell it to a military spouse. Hell, tell it to a soldier! For that matter, there's hardly a lack of blood on the hands of the "love interests." Atton's practically bathing in it, Brianna is a warrior by birth. Visas was a Sith's apprentice. Carth and Mical are career soldiers. ("You're the soldier, father. How many mothers have you killed?!" - Dustil) Bastila is on the verge of Jedi Knighthood.

I know that love exists of course, but it is just my personal opinon. I somewhat dislike love being coupled with war, but that is just me.

I tell other fanfic writers that romance is like chili peppers. It's not appropriate for every type of cusine. Too much, and it overpowers the dish. And not everyone's got a tolerance for it. However, just a bit can bring out the contrast in an otherwise bland and grim meal.

I concur. I just say about the mass-murdering comment only as to draw a constrat, at least to me.

I want romance to be optional. I usually take it, but just to see other content. I don't get happy or sad about it.

The LSM Visas romance is pretty good though. You get to really see who Visas is at the end, which is pretty nice and much more better than a Kiss from Bastila. Plus, Visas and you are both wounds in the Force, so you have some sort of connection. You can also turn such a romance into a tradgery as The Exile murders off Visas in order to finish off Darth Nihlius.

SW and romance don't really go that well together IMO [ie. ep 2]. For kotor 3, I guess it all depends upon where they want to go with the story. But generally speaking, I don't like a lot of romance in my sci-fi movies/games etc. Flirting is fine, but romance type stuff I can do without. If I want romance, I'll watch Sleepless in Seattle or something lol.

yes i believe there should be more romance but the defualt on that is it always makes u have to be a good guy/girl or work for the good ppls. I would like to see some sith romance u know...like if u(REVAN) chose to be evil and u made a romance with Bastila or CARTH they at least respect who u r or they follow u to were u go down to.(lightside or darkside)! :queen

I LOVE CARTH, HE'S SOOOOO CUTE! :3heart:

I would like more romance in KOTOR, but for it to be optional, since I'm sure some people don't want their PC to have a love interest. Instead, I think some of your party could have attractions for you and might be interested, but they might not be in love with you. This could be tied in with Influence, etc.

Well, no romance needed, no influence points, no party member interaction, no useless storyline, no ds/ls points, just plain kill kill kill!... *cough* I mean, kotor is about story, and romance is quite an important part of it... and I like it that way.

Well, I kinda like it with the Juhani thing, it is strongly hinted, though it can be a bit less subtle and for god sake they should make her prettier. maybe a real option of a lesbian romance in game? I mean if they do not feel well about public reaction they can kinda hide it with a code and let the modders pull it out.

It is kinda sad taht they did not expand a bit on the human robot love though, when will HK01's robot rights movement bear fruit...

Ok that aside... Well, romance should be more expressive in k3, more options on dialogues, and defenitely don't ever pull a "no real dialogue option" thing once you finish their story/romance option. The Kiss(look upon/etc) Visas at any time thing is a good start. No, not looking for hot coffee mode, but hack at least give them a few default conversation sets. Even a simple "are you allright sweetie" or "you got a bit of ewok blood on your cheek" would be fine.

Well, I suppose that is also true in a certain way for your influence with party members. Once they spill their beans and/or become jedis they kinda stop talking.

PS: A TWI'LEK GIRL IS FINE TOO.

Well, even as a male I can feel that romance as a female PC just plain SUCKS. Lets see, so far all male love interests acts like wimps. Atton can't even spill out an ILU the right way. Carth is ok, and I guess the "not making eye contact thing" is kinda his personality. But hack, at lest let the female PC be the agressive one and his him. and Mical... gosh he looks more like a pervert to me than anything else (and his model sucks) and gives you the feeling of him stalker scum trying to look uptight more than anything else. That is not even a valid love interrest. Juhani... well too bad they cut that, but Juhani did not get good character development for the most part anyways. Bao-Dur would work wodners, but the developers did not make him an option unfortunately due to some cut preset storylines. Candy is, well, even if he is a choice it is weird.

Well, I am not saying the male pc have great options, but at least some of them are reasonable, and it follows thru... like Bastila's kiss, and Visas's hmmm... (too bad they should have done mroe stuff for her)... Brianna is there for contrast only so her somewhat sexy but childish behavior is excusable.

romance needs more options. and i say that to mean this: you need more choice when it comes down to whom your character falls in love with. having multiple NPC's to pursue in a romantic relationship would definately be a nice addition.

of course, there could also be varying difficulties depending on who you're trying to romance since, like real life, everyone reacts differently to those that flirt. :)

just putting in my honest two pennies. :D

Romance can be a brilliant addition to a good plot. If you take a look at good movies or books, many of them have a romance of some kind. Why?

Because falling in love and developing feelings towards other persons is perfectly normal. Why not have in a RPG then? Actually it would seem rather odd if the PC never ever shows the slightestst interest in NPCs of the opposite sex.

I'm all for romance options in Kotor III.

Well I read somewhere someone suggested choosing whether the player is left or right handed. I guess sexual orientation could be selectable too hehe. It seems as though it wouldn't be too difficult to implement either. Just switching the female love arc into the guy's game, and vice versa.

meh, i think its just too controversial to be implemented in the first place. there are way too many conservative groups out there that are against video games in the first place for a number of reasons (mostly the violence and the anti-social viewpoints). adding homosexuality into the equation is likely to cause an uproar worse than the Hot-Coffee incident.

Exactly...It needs to be Subtle or just hidden in the game so the Modders can find it. I mean really...

like hot cofeee? lol...

Whatever is put in, it would be found and traced back to the developers.

I like the romance, it adds more replayability, and that is always good. Having romance arcs with different characters could completely change the storyline of the game.

How about a compromise. Romances that explains the battling and killing and murdering.

I really like the Exile-Atris-Handmadien triangle because it relates to the story of Atris, and why she kicked you out of the Jedi Order. It is also interesting how Atris' love of you drove her to the dark side and ended up trying to get you and the Jedi Masters killed off.

Subtle things like this is notable and very, very good.
