James Cameron's next film set to prove that Jesus' resurrection = false

Brace yourself. James Cameron, the man who brought you 'The Titanic' is back with another blockbuster. This time, the ship he's sinking is Christianity.

In a new documentary, Producer Cameron and his director, Simcha Jacobovici, make the starting claim that Jesus wasn't resurrected --the cornerstone of Christian faith-- and that his burial cave was discovered near Jerusalem. And, get this, Jesus sired a son with Mary Magdelene.

No, it's not a re-make of "The Da Vinci Codes'. It's supposed to be true.

Let's go back 27 years, when Israeli construction workers were gouging out the foundations for a new building in the industrial park in the Talpiyot, a Jerusalem suburb. of Jerusalem. The earth gave way, revealing a 2,000 year old cave with 10 stone caskets. Archologists were summoned, and the stone caskets carted away for examination. It took 20 years for experts to decipher the names on the ten tombs. They were: Jesua, son of Joseph, Mary, Mary, Mathew, Jofa and Judah, son of Jesua.

Israel's prominent archeologist Professor Amos Kloner didn't associate the crypt with the New Testament Jesus. His father, after all, was a humble carpenter who couldn't afford a luxury crypt for his family. And all were common Jewish names.

There was also this little inconvenience that a few miles away, in the old city of Jerusalem, Christians for centuries had been worshipping the empty tomb of Christ at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Christ's resurrection, after all, is the main foundation of the faith, proof that a boy born to a carpenter's wife in a manger is the Son of God.

But film-makers Cameron and Jacobovici claim to have amassed evidence through DNA tests, archeological evidence and Biblical studies, that the 10 coffins belong to Jesus and his family.

Ever the showman, (Why does this remind me of the impresario in another movie,"King Kong", whose hubris blinds him to the dangers of an angry and very large ape?) Cameron is holding a New York press conference on Monday at which he will reveal three coffins, supposedly those of Jesus of Nazareth, his mother Mary and Mary Magdalene. News about the film, which will be shown soon on Discovery Channel, Britain's Channel 4, Canada's Vision, and Israel's Channel 8, has been a hot blog topic in the Middle East (check out a personal favorite: Israelity Bites) Here in the Holy Land, Biblical Archeology is a dangerous profession. This 90-minute documentary is bound to outrage Christians and stir up a titanic debate between believers and skeptics. Stay tuned.

Ouch, I'm going to have to say good luck proving it. I'm curious as to what they found in the DNA tests that allows him to prove that it was actually Jesus & Co.(™), but I would love to know if someone can find that out. When news of this hits the serious mainstream media, holy crap...prepare for an epic ****storm.

I've been long convinced of this anyway, I guess I'm not the target market...

Yeah, but being personally convinced of something and scientifically proven that something is true are two very different things.

Personally, I think "proof" of any kind is nearly impossible for this issue.

I lol'd at the title of the article. As a matter of fact, I watched a TFTC movie called The Bordello Of Blood last night. :D

As for proving/disproving Christianity, good luck. It won't change people's ignorance/faith/whatever anyways. It's bound to get a lot of attention and thus make a lot of money, though.

Well, I don't want to start a big religious debate, but for me, disproving Jesus' resurrection is a side effect of Science's general disproving of many of the core beliefs of the Abrahamic Religions.

Yeah, I probably should have specified between scientific proof and historical proof.

Oh. And the Da Vinci Code was not supposed to be true. Right.

The fundies will hate this. And even if it's proven Jesus did not shoot off into Heaven like an engine-free helicopter, they'll just either ignore the evidence or go "oh well, it's his spirit that was resurrected, not him! This proves nothing! It's a metaphor!" etc.

Stay tuned.
It'd be a bit easier to stay tuned if you told me the name of the film.

How insensitive can you be again another's beliefs? At least show some respect and quit mocking Christians. The soul has never been labeled as physical object that can be studied like science. While many take the resurrection literally that is their belief and you shouldn't berate them for it.

If you're not a religious fundie, I don't see what you have to be offended by what Dagobahn said. Clearly he's not bashing ALL Christians... just the types that take every chance they have to bash anything and everything that is logical in the world.

The reason why religion and politics won't stay out of the Swamp is because they are, besides sex, money, and violence, some of the most interesting topics in our society. I would agree though that actual debate deserves its own spot in the Senate. Perhaps this thread would have been better off had it been created there.

When you "threaten" the very core of Christianity with quasi-historical and scientific thought, you're bound to upset Christians.

But why can't Christians withstand such a threat? If Christianity were truely the way to go, why would any kind of challenge to its credibility, no matter how significant, be seen as a threat?

Again, maybe this would be better handled in the Senate. ;)

I can tell that there is going to be more fiction in here than a *insert kinky off-color joke that'd probably be lovingly edited by a concerned mod and get me a warning through PM*

My opinion? Bleh, this is interesting, I've never really gotten into my Catholic heritage and serious Bible thumpers (like, we rode dinosaurs 6000 years ago thumpers).
