Just started coding...and I get an error.

Well, I am very new to coding, infact I started yestersay.

I am following the MakeAMod_readme.txt tutorial file. I do it all right, I edit the rocket_velocity and the GAMEVERSION, but when I try and compile in Final, I get this:

------ Build started: Project: JK2game, Configuration: Final Win32 ------

Compiling...

g_weapon.c

c:\projects\jedi_academy_sdk\codemp\game\q_shared.h(1242) : error C2059: syntax error : 'type'

Build log was saved at "file://c:\projects\JEDI_Academy_SDK\codemp\Final\JK2game\BuildLog.htm"

JK2game - 1 error(s), 0 warning(s)

========== Build: 0 succeeded, 1 failed, 0 up-to-date, 0 skipped ==========

I'm using Visual C++ Express Edition. Should I use something else?

Thanks!

Edit: I just noticed a log of the compile...I don't know if it is needed, though, here it is.

Oh, I forgot to mention, it's Visual C++ 2008 Express Edition. Is that the problem?

Also, I've mucked up the windows it shows :p. When i load something now, I get nothing! I did something wrong...:/

(Never mind that last paragraph, I got it "fixed".)

THIS is what I get on line 1242:

float powf ( float x, int y );

So...should I remove that part?

EDIT!: When I remove that part, it compiles succesfully, but I get no .dll file.

EDIT2!: Ok, I just saw Build. Would it be Build or Compile? Compile gives me no .dll file, and takes about 2 seconds. I'm doing the BUILD right now.

EditFINAL(Hopefully): Ok, when I do the build, I have a bunch of errors and then it says it fails. Below is a complete list of errors.

mmm, there are some bugs, but I wouldn't really call it "unstable".

Anyway, I didn't see any problems in the output that you posted all those warnings are due to VS treating older string manipulation functions as security risks. They can be used for evil, but you're not going to want to rewrite the code to not use them.

What we did for OJP was to just disable those warnings. It's a pragma command but I don't remember what it is. You could look it up yourself by checking out the OJP code.

  • 2 weeks later...

Too many threads with this. Please use search button next time.

This is the common bug with MSVC 2005 and the Platform SDK being that it already has a powf function defined in math.h.

There are also other solutions to this as well, such as just commenting it out in q_shared.h and q_math.c and adding this in the top of cg_view.c below the big huge comment:

float CG_Powf ( float x, int y )
{
float r = x;
for ( y--; y>0; y-- )
	r = r * r;
return r;
}

And replace the instances of powf with CG_Powf or whatever you wish to call it.
