o snap u did not just go there jebus are you gonna take that from some random e-azn?

I'm on my last warning :( Even if I wanted to.

Ah yes, back when GTA III was released I had my mom buy it for me too. :xp:

Since GTA 3 went out of production last year, I wanted to buy it for PC. So I went into the shop, they wouldn't sell it to me. I came back to get another game later on, and the store clerk was nice enough to let me buy it.

(I was on vacation with my friends)

I'll wait for the PC version. I have the previous installments for PC and I doubt this one will remain console exclusive for more than a few months and I can wait that long, considering all the other games that have popped up and/or been announced to pop up soon.
No, the PC versions usually take a year.

Wow, I'm quite stunned actually. I'd expect to hear comments like that from Jack Thompson, Hillary Clinton and the like. But not from gamers.
why do you say that? i didn't say that games are bad or that they need to be censored or something. i said that i didn't really like all the sexual content that they're promoting in the trailers, and it turned me off from the game. putting me in the same boat as Hillary and ol' Jack?? for shame. :disaprove
The fact that you can kill people and have sex with prostitutes is irrelevant, to me the appeal of the game is that you can cruise around with your car at high speeds and listen to music.
yep. that would be why i play Forza 2 while listening to my iPod. don't need a GTA game for me to do that.
It's that awesome sense of freedom that you don't get from any other game. Isn't it pretty much every gamers dream to play a game where you can basically do whatever you want?
it is in a way, but if you think about it, you're still not doing what you want to do. the "freedom" is all fun and good until you realize that nothing is really changing around you aside from how the cops and gangs react to you no matter how many times you shoot up a neighborhood or take part in the Firefighter/EMS/Vigilante side missions.

instead, change comes when you follow the story, and as you don't make decisions for yourself inside the story, there really isn't much in the way of freedom. you're still very limited in areas like character development and even in simple things like choosing to become apart of a drug cartel or even something more noble like fighting crime.

the point is that the freedom given by that game isn't really freedom. there's still too many restrictions. yeah, its better than a lot of games, but its far from ideal.

Yeah, I'm going to go buy a copy tomorrow...for my 10 year old of course....

Pfft, I'm only 16 (Okay, I was 15 back then.) and I just bought Painkiller Universe (M for Mature) off of a Datablitz outlet. The salespeople didn't even mind. In fact, they recognized me as a frequent customer. :xp:

Of course, I was with my brother then, and he is around 25 years old... :D

Uh oh, I can feel dark energy seeping into this thread.

We all have an opinion on the lack of responsibility and moral stance in games these days. Some care about it. Some don't.

...some are somewhere in the middle and some are just ignorant.

I consider myself a good person, however in this area I'm hypocritical.

I would never advocate this game or others like it for children. I don't believe the subject matter is Ok for young minds and innocent kids.

I feel the same way about TV, movies and music as well. There's a lot of really bad stimulation out there. I would consider this game and it's predecessors one of these.

However, I didn't make the game and if kids want it, they will get their hands on it somehow. IMO this is where the parenting should occur.

That being said...

As an adult, I have pre-purchased a one way ticket to Liberty City.

My flight departs 2pm, Tuesday.

I'm going back to Staunton...

True, though I said I didn't care about the sexual and violance, its because I'm old enough to play the game.

Though like you say this game is not made for youngster about the age of 8 to 14.

But I think its more to do with the parents. See, my parents they where never against these games or what was in it.

I played Carmageddon, the racing game where you had to drive over people to get points and extra time, when I was about 8 or 9.

This didn't turn me in a crazy psycho killer maniac on the roads.

My parents, mainly dad, made it clear that these car ''simulations" ( even DTM racer driver) are far from the real deal in REAL LIFE. ( And I can drive, yes, so I know now that games, even if they claim to be "realistic" are still far from it.)

They never really minded the contents of games I played, though I still got the message, Games are fake, just like most things on TV/ films.

Their both medical personel, so they kind of always ruine my action movies, that I watch, by saying its absurd to punch people like that or jump and run like crazy when falling from a building and all that.

Anyway, the more people go hard against this, the more attracted the kids will get to have go at the game...

But thats just my 2c's .

Everyone has its tastes and that leaves lots of options to discuss and debate :p .

I've never been a big GTA fan, its fun to play for a little while at a friends house or something but I just think it would get repetitive, I also am not really interested in the theme of the game. Sure its fun to be able to do whatever you want but the drugs and sex and random violence doesn't appeal to me.

Sod, sod it.

Does GTA IV has those annoying Girlfriend missions again?! Especially one MANDATORY Girlfriend Mission, like the one in GTA:SA where you have to seduce a girl in order to gain a keycard?

I remember that mission in GTA: SA, along with the furor over the "Hot Coffee" mod. It does seem that Rockstar is going to put some more 'graphic sex' stuff (thanks to the IGN Video "Ladies of Liberty City"), and if they have those annoying, mandatory girlfriend missions, WITH the 'graphic sex'...Bah. I mean, GTAIII's sex scenes were at least tasteful!

Though I did like that you can complete that mandatory girlfriend mission by just shooting the girlfriend, I don't really know if that will apply to GTAIV.

Even as Jebus already clarified the situation, let me infer that:

1- The rating system working there may be different.

2- I thought it wasn't forbidden for underages, only not recommended. The exception being AO rating.

The Australian rating is MA15+, meaning that if you are under 15, you are not allowed to purchase the game unless an adult accompanies you. For good reason as well, considering this game's oeuvre. I certainly wouldn't buy this for any of my younger cousins.

Not obligatory, nope.

And FYI and joy, the Achievement related to "doing it right" with a random GF is called "Warm Cofee". Don't ask.

I meaning my mother.

And it's MA :D

It's M in the US. ;) --Jae

Response to Jae's message:

O.o Usually the ratings for MOVIES, are like R in the US, but MA in Aust. I would have thought this game would have been at least MA.

ESRB rating system The US doesn't use MA. They have M for Mature and AO for Adults Only. It obviously is given different letters in Australia, but no worries. :) --Jae

It's the sign of the Apocalypse when a guy says he gets enough sex in real life that he doesn't need more.

Didn't you know? El Sithy is a porn star.

...or well, he use to be.

It's not so much the sex as it is the random violence that I'm concerned about.

How sick is it, that you find it entertaining to run little, cute princesses off the road at high speeds? I'll have you know that when my prostitute is finished with me, I'll at least have the decency to give her a ride to where she's going.
