Summer For Change!"--

Recommended Posts

Remember the good old days? Remember Thomas Jefferson, who bought the Lousiana territory? Ooh, oh, what about Woodrow Wilson, the President who created the League of Nations? And surely, isn't FDR one of the greatest Democratic President in the 21st Century, right? Right!

So, it's time! It's time to prove your partisanship loyalty!

(...Oh *beep*. I clicked on Enter when I didn't mean to. Listen, just wait, I'll edit in the details later.)

EDIT: Alright. Yesterday, the US Democratic Party has just emailed me telling me to go and hold a party. Their goal is that, if they hold enough parties, they'll persuade the Youth vote to go and vote for Democrats for the next election.

Now, I haven't donated any money to the Democratic Party for a long, long time, so I realize that I owe it to them to actually hold a party. But I don't want to, you know, waste any money.

So here's what I am planning. On July 25th, there will be some sort of "virtual party". Possibly in a chatroom, or maybe in this very topic. That's it. A party. Party ends July 27th.

BIG NOTES:

*You do not have to support Obama to attend this party. This party is for supporting people who are running under the Democratic Party ticket, not just Obama. You can still attend this party, promise to vote downticket all Democrat, all the time, and still vote for McCain as President.

*You do not need be a Democrat at all. Just anyone who might vote straight ticket all Democrat. If you see a "(D)", make sure to vote for him.

*It is strongly encouraged, but not required that you vote in the General Election. If you cannot attend the Polling places, then please contact your state government on how to gain mail-in ballots.

Activities:

*Um. I don't actually quite know. I do not, do not want to hold any political activities in this party because of fear that this will make the party wrong, and also for fear of getting this party locked by the Moderators.

*But if you got any good activity, please state so. Remember, the Democratic Party wants this party.

Why the Topic Title is Called "Summer For Change!":

The US Democratic Party is calling this summer the "Summer For Change". (Don't ask.) They want me to hold the party here, rather than, say, in the "Fall For Change", due to the fact that the youth vote are usually out having fun in the Summer, and not during the Fall.

Umm... lets get the party name correct atleast. Its Democrat... Democratic implies that they are for democracy... and they havent been democratic for a very long time.

Vote communist... that's what I'm doin' when I reach age!

Note: Im not being rude or mean with this... Do yourself, and the country a favour, go live in China or Cuba for a while as a citizen of that country, not a foriegn visitor. Then if you still have a love affair with communism, then you can vote for that party... though I think its absurd we even have such a party in the US... >.> OR... if you dont want to see what communism is like first hand, go talk to some elderly Russians about how great the Communist regime was! Could also ask some holocaust survivours (Jews from Germany). Since the Nazis were the National Socialist Party - Russia was the United Soviet Socialist Republic (USSR)...

Educate yourself before nattering about how youre going to vote communist when you get old enough. Please...

The Summer for Change... change what though? They have this mantra of change, but not telling us exactly what they want to change... or this "New Direction"... what direction? Complete socialism? Facism? Communism? What?

Damn those people who don't think like the rest of us!

go talk to some elderly Russians about how great the Communist regime was!
Go talk to some even older Russians about how great the Czarist regime was! Or go talk to some young Russians about how great their current government is!

Could also ask some holocaust survivours (Jews from Germany). Since the Nazis were the National Socialist Party - Russia was the United Soviet Socialist Republic (USSR)...
Bad example, unless of course you're saying 10.7 million Soviet soldiers didn't die fighting the Nazis. And fix your definition of the Holocaust too.

Educate yourself before nattering about how youre going to vote communist when you get old enough. Please...
Please unskewer your world view.

Also Ave despite what I've just posted that's just wasting your vote.

Do yourself a favor and read what communism is.

Those countries are/were tyranical dictatorships run under the guise of Communism. Much like our country (the US) is under the guise of a democracy.

The holocaust didn't just affect German Jews.

Could also ask some holocaust survivours (Jews from Germany).

Or Jews from Poland/France/Belgium/Austria/Yugoslavia/Any country infected by a Nazi Jackboot.

Or Homosexuals/Gypsies/Slavs/Russians/Poles/Communists/Disabled people/Anybody who disagreed with Nazism.

Educate yourself before nattering about how youre going to vote communist when you get old enough. Please...

Maybe you should do the same.

Well, I'm registered unafilliated, and the reason is that I don't think the Democrats or the Republicans deserve support anymore. Both the parties are acting ridiculous. The presidential office has been turned into a prize. I'm sick of real issues being used as leverage to win the office. I want a president for once to accomplish the goals he says he will. I don't mean partially I mean completely. I don't want to hear what they could do I want to hear what they will do. Then I want to see them do it. I don't care if a candidate says he will only do one thing while in office as long as he gets that one thing done. It shows that he keeps his promises and doesn't make false promises. Unlike the presidents we have been getting who fill their campaigns with goals, but don't meet but a few if any. Until a candidate makes me think he deserves my vote neither of them will get my vote, because neither of them deserve it or have done anything to deserve it. The fathers of this country have put their lives on the line and many have died to give and protect our right to vote, and I will not lightly use this right or throw it away.

I think we should start the "Anti-******* Party" to counter these pre-determined political parties.

Then we can make some tangible positive change for the nation/world (as we'd probably be more likely to actually help the world.).

I second that notion.

As good as an idea that sounds, we'd be squashed by the Democrats and Republicans-- either because people are so unwilling to try this new "Anti-******* Party," or because we'd be out-funded, out-done, and just flat out ignored.

That's still better than sitting at home and doing nothing, though.

Will it involve an ice cream social?

Starting a new party is useless in the current day and age. Just look at what the current 'independent' parties are doing -- typically just taking votes away from democratic candidates. They don't have a prayer of ever winning and all they do is weaken other candidates.

Sucky situation all around. I'd love it if we could support a more-than-two party system, but we need to work our way up to it before we start throwing away our votes. That said, I did vote independent in the local governor election the last time. Just didn't have it in my heart to vote for either of the awful candidates. x.x

Great. By making this topic, I helped unite the anti-Democrats...As a general response thread:

1) The Democratic Party is the correct name of the Democratic Party. So, no I won't call them the Democrat Party. I will grant each political party the decency to name themselves, understand?

2) What's all this hate about parties? People get together and enjoy themselves while talking about stuff. I thought that how most parties are, you know. You eat, you talk among friends, you leave. The only difference is that the Democratic Party is sponsoring it, but then it's just the same as the fund-raisers that both political parties usually hold.

3) The Democratic Party and the Republican Party are actually both very good parties. While I understand the partisans try to scream at each other, both represent two ideologies I support: the idea of economic liberty (Republican) and individual liberty (Democrats), the idea of personal responsibility (Republican) and collective responsibility (Democrats). The left and the right. Two separate strands of thought. Some solutions from the right will work, some solutions from the left will work. So, I don't share this utter disgust and hatred for the two-party system.

4) If you want a successful third party, then don't start aiming for the Presidency. Try to learn how politics work, and then win some local stuff first by gathering a dedicated core. Don't complain and whine about how the system is broken. Do something. And overall, aim to win, not aim to demonstrate an ideology. A third-party might do more damage in a system where the electoral college is abolished, due to the possibility of votes being lost, but I'd focus on results.

And whatever you do, come up with a coherent ideology for what you plan to do. And make sure your ideology works. Why throw the rascals out when we just replace it with a clueless idiot who will end up hurting the territory that they rule? You will be held responsible for every error you make, so you better make sure you think wisely.

5) There has been cases where a Third Party can very well "transform" a major party...or, more cynically, "hijack" it. This is because this third party usually showcase a huge amount of supporters, so one of the two major political parties decide to embrace the agenda of the Third Party so much so as to bring those supporters into their camp. The Populists who later influenced the Democratic Party, as well as Eugene's Socialist Party, comes into mind here. Don't rely on it though.

6) There are so many arguments over what is and is not communism, with Troskyists and Stalinists and Maoists all pounding over what is and is not 'true communism'. Might be fun to watch, but frankly, I'm not going to wade into that.

If I had the chance to vote, I don't know what I'd do. Either you go for the young guy who has less experience, or the older guy who has more experience.

That is one way to look at it. Another way is you could vote for the old guy with the same old ideas, or the young guy with the new ideas. To me it is more a matter of perspective; if you are happy with the way this country is going, you should vote for Senator McCain, if you are unhappy with our present course you should vote for Senator Obama.

Wow... I post a dissenting opinion about it and the thread turns into a flame-fest like it was the Warcrack forums... O.o

Im honestly surprised that this thread isnt locked already.

Also, Im not anti-democrat... which they have been calling themselves for years, it was only recently that they started with the "democratic" naming... in my home town they still have the DNC building labeled as Democrat. I can go take a picture of it if you like... I should be going down there on Saturday.

Anyway... I'll bow out of the thread and ignore any future political threads, since an opposing view point isnt tolerated.

The holocaust didn't just affect German Jews.

I apologize for leaving out every class of people that was slaughtered by the Nazis in my post, it wasnt intentional (thats not sarcasm by the way).

And finally, as someone pointed out, since there are different types of communism, just because I was focusing more on Russian communism doesnt mean I was wrong in my comments...
