Summer For Change!"--

Recommended Posts

Nice slanderous remarks, nowhere did anyone state opposing view is not tolerated. I don't like communism, but you can't spout off propaganda and political rhetoric like it was fact.

I'm sorry, I happen to enjoy knowing that communism is viewed objectively and not as a menace. It's an ideal society that cannot work.

Tyranny is oppressive and demeaning of humanity.

I just wanted to make certain that the bad is appropriately labeled, so people understand the severity of particular governments., it may serve us well to know this.

PS: One post calling you out on your labels of communist governments and another pointing out that you may want to know what you say before you tell others "you should know about XYZ before you talk about XYZ". So no, that's hardly a flame-fest, and you know as well as I these forums are nowhere near the level of the Warcraft forums. I understand you feel called out by the remarks, but that is the nature of politics and what happens when you slip up on a geo-political level.

Wow... I post a dissenting opinion about it and the thread turns into a flame-fest like it was the Warcrack forums... O.o

Im honestly surprised that this thread isnt locked already.

Also, Im not anti-democrat... which they have been calling themselves for years, it was only recently that they started with the "democratic" naming... in my home town they still have the DNC building labeled as Democrat. I can go take a picture of it if you like... I should be going down there on Saturday.

Anyway... I'll bow out of the thread and ignore any future political threads, since an opposing view point isnt tolerated.

:violin:

This is just you being overly dramatic. We did not at any point say that your viewpoint wasn't tolerated - and it wasn't locked because no one actually was flaming. You made a normative claim about communism - however, you weren't actually talking about true communism. That logical error needed to be fixed. No personal attacks at all.

Oh, and I don't care what your building is named. The fact that you can cite one building with the words 'Democrat Party' instead of 'Democratic Party' does not have any bearing on what the party is actually called.

I'm sure we are all sorry that you can't handle your opinion being debated, and being told you -might- actually be wrong.

Educate yourself before nattering about how youre going to vote communist when you get old enough. Please...

The Summer for Change... change what though? They have this mantra of change, but not telling us exactly what they want to change... or this "New Direction"... what direction? Complete socialism? -snip- Communism? What?

Educate yourself on what communism and socialism actually are and what Russia and Nazi Germany actually were before making an argument based on propaganda and misinformation.

though I think its absurd we even have such a party in the US

Yes, how dare they have an opinion that differs from yours.

Wow... I post a dissenting opinion about it and the thread turns into a flame-fest like it was the Warcrack forums... O.o

Hun, that is called differing opinion. If you are going to express your opinion, don't expect every body to agree with it.

Oh, and its fun to point out that you were the first one to light the match. And, ironically enough, you were the one to throw it onto the wood as well.

How about, instead of focusing on the issue Aash Li finds a differing view from her own wrong and doesn't want to debate it, you both focus on how a common ground of acceptance and open-mindedness from both sides of the arguement can be formed?

How about this isn't a little league game and not everyone can get a trophy? She made incorrect assertions and people took exception to them.

I apologize for leaving out every class of people that was slaughtered by the Nazis in my post, it wasnt intentional (thats not sarcasm by the way).

Don't worry Aash, I wasn't trying to 'call you out' as it were, I just feel very strongly that we shouldn't forget the other victims of the Holocaust. I should really apologise to you for jumping down your throat.

So, in that vein, I apologise, Aash, and I accept yours, so there's no harm done.

Damn those people who don't think like the rest of us!
How is your attitude towards Ash any different?

Go talk to some even older Russians about how great the Czarist regime was!
I'm sure that they would be willing to comment if they hadn't all died in the Great Purge. :xp: A gross exaggeration, yes, but I couldn't resist.
Or go talk to some young Russians about how great their current government is!
Oh, I'm aware that their current situation sucks, but are you suggesting that they were better off under communism? If so, how?
Do yourself a favor and read what communism is.

Those countries are/were tyranical dictatorships run under the guise of Communism. Much like our country (the US) is under the guise of a democracy.

Well, we're definitely in complete agreement on the current state of the US government. :(
I think we should start the "Anti-******* Party" to counter these pre-determined political parties.
No arguments here; I've become quite disillusioned with both parties. I have come to the conclusion that they are opposite sides of the same coin (or cowpie, if you will :p) in that they are using different strategies to attain the same goal. Guess what that goal is? Hint: It starts with a "t." To be honest, this belief terrifies me.

Agreed, but I'm convinced that the persistent belief that by some miracle it can be made to work is what makes it a menace.
We called her out for that and we're the sheep in this situation?
Not at all. It wasn't the argument that I was bleating about, Avery. It was the rather ugly pile-on that I was objecting to. ;) Edited by Q

Oh, sorry then. Quick assumption on my part.

Probably should have asked what you meant before posting.

Is a sad truth, I agree.

Well, despite the different details about all the parties, I believe that most of the political parties share the same end goal. That is kind of why America established the two party system from the start. The two (not counting the many others) were meant to counter balance each other.

If you only had 1 party, you would have a totalitarian state. If you had 2 parties that wanted completely different goals, you'd have a civil war.

We all just want a better country. We just have different opinions on how to change it. I may disagree with pretty much all of them, but at least I have the privilege to disagree with them.

It doesn't so much terrify me as it does make me pity the many parties and the people that get trampled on along the way.

Agreed, but I'm convinced that the persistent belief that by some miracle it can be made to work is what makes it a menace.

Well, technically, it is a system proven to work. You can live with small groups of people and be... well.. communist. Works on the same scale that nudist colonies do. Some people honestly enjoy living that way and hey, if they want to and have the privilege to do it (Albeit privately)... power to them I say.

The problem with communism is that is cannot work on a large scale. When you get even over a few hundred people it starts to fall apart.

It has worked for Native tribes for over 40,000 years. Works for private owners that allow it on their property. It just cannot work on the scale of, say, a country. Or even a city for that matter.

But, the idea of a Utopia is so enticing that the Ideal got many countries and people to fall to the guise that the Soviet Union created. The Soviets were by no stretch of the word communist. It was a totalitarian dictatorship all the way.

Even calling the system they made "communist" is an insult to the ideal. Its like calling the Amazon "Heaven." Sure, you might be able to convince people that it is... but I can guarantee you there are no angels there.

The day communism is allow to happen on the scale you speak of, humanity will barely be recognizable to the people we are today. That day may come, but it isn't a day for us. Heck, I don't even think it will ever be a day for human beings.

You show good insight, Avery. In order for communism to work on a grand scale, humanity would have to evolve to the point at which it no longer possesses human nature.

And then it would no longer be human. ;)

Until a few years ago I was a dyed-in-the-wool Republican. But then came the Patriot Act, the torture of prisoners, the Republican Congress cutting taxes (which was good) and then spending like Democrats (that is, like drunken sailors on a three-day pass to Amsterdam, which was bad) and finally the confirmation that illegal wire-tapping is in fact legal. The result is that I don't really identify with either party now. The fact that Obama voted in favor of the afore-mentioned wire-tapping doesn't inspire a lot of confidence that he will enact the "change" that he keeps spouting about, either.

I really don't see a lot of hope for the future in either candidate, TBH. :(

I'm going to go and ask the mods very nicely if they can lock this thread, considering the fact that, while it isn't any flaming or such, it is somewhat going off-topic, due to the actual 'party' being canceled...as well as the fact that this topic is going far more serious than I anticipated. Any discussion about communism, political parties, etc. could be held in Kavar's Corner in a separate topic.

So, um, mods. Er. Please?

If you all are talking about Shia LeBoeuf or Orlando Bloom, I'm all there. I'll bring the pink sparkle nail polish and brownies.

Closed per thread-starter's request.
