Can't Access the underwater ship in year 3

I haven't played GF in years, but I seem to remember having the same problem back then. After the initial time where you see a cutscene first, I cannot access the underwater ship where Glottis is. As soon as I go down there Manny walks right back up, no matter what key I press.

I tried the developer code but it seems to only work if I start a new game, the box doesn't come up on my saved game. I really don't want to have to skip the bit or start again. Any help please?

have you patched the game? i remember this being an issue but it's so long since i came across this problem i can't remember if the patch solves it. i would patch the game http://www.grimfandango.net/?page=patch and then try it again. if the save game doesn't work due to the fact you've patched the game you might need to grab one of the save games from here http://www.grimfandango.net/?page=saves and just replay half an hour or so.

let us know how you go on.

try some of the suggestions in these threads:

do a search for "chain" int he glottis garage forum and you should see a tonne of people with the same problem. people have managed to get around the issue in various ways, hopefully one will work for you.

it's worth mentioning that this issue probably comes from the fact that your computer is too "fast" and causes some parts of the game to act a little strangely. you have to remember that GF is an ageing title now and some of the computers of recent years are starting to cause a few issues..

let us know how you get on..

I have the exact same problem but I found a way to circumvent it.

I realized out that you can stop Manny dead in his tracks by accessing his inventory. When I reach the end of the conveyor belt, I wait until the screen goes black and then start mashing the inventory keys. You can try pressing only two keys with one hand—such as 1 and 2—like a piano trill, or mash many of them at once with two hands—such as 1, 2, 3, I, and D (it helps if you have 3 items in the inventory, or the three won't do anything). Try to press them consecutively, rather than simultaneously. You'll need to be really fast to keep up with your computer. This method isn't surefire, but it's consistent.

I'll have you know, however, that my computer's slow by today's standards (750MHz CPU), so CPUs in GHz may be too fast for human fingers. Also, you get a 'free' trip to the ship if you go down after the cutscene that plays when you enter Domino's office for the first time. A scripted sequence will override any other action, and direct Manny towards Glottis.
