Mass Effect 2 [thread contains spoilers]

I, too, have downloaded and installed the Firewalker pack for my copy of Mass Effect 2. I haven't played it yet though and my expectations are currently nil.

Well, I CAN say this.. don't expect hours upon hours of play :indif:

It's been what, 2+ hours since my post and I've already finished it *sigh*

Missions are WAAAAAAAAY too short (imo) however I still had fun, so it's not a total wipe ;)

Anyway, Firewalker should be a fun ride, and I hope that this isn't the last *free* DLC that E.A and BioWare have spawned out.
Me too. Granted Cerberus Network isn't necessarily 'free' (1200 MS points if it didn't come with your copy) the extras are quite nice. At least they offer some new weapons and upgrades to make their longevity to the game a little more feasible rather than niche (other than the appearance pack).

EDIT: Dumb question, but how do I collect research while in the Hovertank? I keep pressing right the right mouse button, like it says, but all it does is shoot and toggle camera angels.
Not sure on PC (xbox here) however on xbox, you have to hover within the circle platforms on the landscape and stay within it's boundaries for a certain amount of time (pressing/holding down Y on xbox). During this, the hover tank shifts around a lot so you have to keep the ship stable. Falling out of the boundaries resets the counter. The onboard VI lets you know once it's gathered the necessary research/elements.

----

Anywho, while the DLC, to me, seems rather short... I still won't complain too much. What play there is, is fun. Since it offers several more Rich planets, a Biotic damage upgrade (total of 6/6 final) and the 'new addition' to the engineer deck hangar bay (eyecandy only of the docked hover tank) it at least adds 'something' new to the game.. hehehe. The extra credits are nice too if you find yourself lacking by not importing a 'rich' ME1 character with it's bonuses. At least the controls are relatively friendly, so you're not dl'ing more controller angst

If you have the Cerberus Network, it's worth a DL.. but I wouldn't go spending 1200 points to get it just for this. Wait till Kasumi is released, or if you're just itching for the Arc Projector & Zaeed (which aren't bad).

Just my 2 coppers at least. :D

Sneaky buggers @BioWare - when you jump into the DLC link from the in game menu - it always took me to the checkout for the alternate appearance crap. You have to navigate out if that if you want to get to your free hammerhead download [Referring to PC version] :p

lolz. At my speed it will take longer to download than complete. Life= :violin: I'll still give it a go, just going to pop out and do some home maintenance/gardening to pass the time in the interim - as we old folks like to do ;)

Just tried out the Hammerhead DLC. Have to say it is pretty lame so far. It's basically platforming, as I guessed from watching the trailer, but no saving? Not even checkpoints/auto-saves? What idiot came up with that idea?

Yeah, that sucked. I think it was to try prolong things. At the end of the day, its a vehicle add-on - no RPG about it at all. As cool a vehicle as it is - if you're not hugely into vehicle gaming, then the Hammerhead DLC wont impress you that much. There literally isn't one thing you have to shoot at for those short moments you're out on the ground. M ake sure you check your galaxy maps for new systems/planes to explore, a lot of them being rich in resources...

I'm more looking fwd to Kasumi - hopefully it will be worth the wait/price.

Nice Kasumi teaser - there's more at YT but more spoilerage in them

I think I may have come to the right place, because I need SERIOUS help.

I recently bought a new laptop, and I want to put Mass Effect 2 on it. I have uninstalled the game from the original computer, and attempted to put it on my laptop. Now, this is where the plot thickens:

Its asking for the registration code it came with. Assuming that my computer somehow "deactivated" the code after uninstalling it, I inputted the code. Then I get a message saying "Please enter a VALID Registration Code."

How can I easily fix this problem (without doing the illegal option of downloading a Keygen.) I want to do this legally and without any problems. Is there a way of reissuing my code? Can somebody PLEASE help me ASAP :|

I dont think that uninstalling 'deactivates' a code. Games that skip with activation keys usually allow a limited number of installs before crapping out on you. As far as the cerberus stuff goes, you only get one shot at that.

it almost makes you wish for something like ubisofts model, but without the 'always on' requirement.

I'd poke around ME2 official forums for an answer on this one.

I'm confused--almost to the suicide mission's start, but I can't get past "Await IFF Installation". What should I do?

It will automatically start once you access the starmap. Depending if you talked to (or have done) Legion's loyalty quest, it may require 2 accesses of the starmap.

You'll know when the quest starts ;)

If you're still having problems, try taking a shuttle to a planet (Omega, Citadel, etc.) and return to the Normandy and access the map again.

Not necessarily a "spoiler" spoiler, but does contain info about endgame strategy.

Once the quests "starts" the sooner you go to the Omega 4 Relay, the better.. if you're concerned about the survival of your non-party crew members (Kelly, the cook, etc.).

After 32 hours, 31 minutes (the equivalent of 4 business days' work), my Commander, Shakhmaty Mirai Shepard, finished her "Thus Spake Zarathustra" Suicide Mission and defeated those nasty Collectors once and for all!

THOSE SURVIVING:

Garrus Vakarian (<3 <3 <3 <3 *2nd TACKLE* *CHECKMATE!* <3 <3 <3 <3)

Jack (wut?! She was loyal, yeah, but she headed the fire team and...???)

Legion (He was on my final team, along with Garrus. Trusted those 2 most.)

Professor Mordin Solus (WHEW! I love that goofy salarian! He's hilarious!)

Samara (Toughest biotic I ever knew. Eat your heart out, Jack! She ROCKS!)

THOSE LOST:

Tali'Zorah vas Normandy (NOOOOOOO--she was LOYAL, you !#@# game!!!)

Thane Krios (Shame, because I liked him, but I went with Garrus instead.)

Grunt (Strange. I thought he'd outlast the Collectors by a mile. Ah, well...)

Jacob Taylor (darn it. Still, I found him rather 'meh' as a character.)

Miranda Lawson (I'm not sorry she's gone at all. I think Jack is right re: her.)

Overall, a fantastic game! I can't wait to start my 2nd (Renegade) game!

Thanks for all the help and tips, and may Mass Effect 3 prove just as great!

Whoa Tysyacha... you lost 5 !! I'd re-do it just to keep Thane. Way to cool a character to not see what happens in ME3. I couldnt save his son so I wonder if he's still moping about it in ME3 :p

I re-did the final level and lost Tali and Zaeed only . I'm happy to leave it at that. Maybe if I pick (loyal) Mordin for that first bit instead she might make it, but not fussed about her after her whiny display on the Migrant Fleet. GROW UP GIRL!

If you don’t want to lose someone on that part, Legion or Tali are the only choices to send down the pipe despite what that idiot Jacob says. Leadership is just as important as loyalty. Garrus is a very good choice, but Jacob or Miranda work just as well. Another deciding factor in not losing anyone is not to leave to many weak links behind to protect your back side. I usually send Tali back with the crew and take Mordin with my Shepard for the final assault. Either Jack or Samara will work with for the force field, but I prefer Samara or Morinth (should I ever choice her).

Loyalty plays a role, but it is not the only factor or even the most important. You can have everyone survive with just a few loyal. Not really sure how few because I’ll always had the entire squad mates loyal. Though the best ending IMO is one where a squad mate does not make it.

My 1st playthrough I made Jack the leader of the diversion. Made sense at the time, but it did not work out well for Jack.

Agreed. Even though I'm sorry I lost her, she still acts kind of "emo"...like Jack, only not as witchy AT ALL. By the way, how do you embed YouTube videos inside of posts?

First, go to YT - find the vid you want. You'll see a bit at the end that says something like watch?v=PSSYCATXYZ

Ive bolded those letters - they are the ones you need to select and copy(they are usually a jumble of letters/numbers)

Then you can do the next bit at least 2 ways:

1. Find the little youtube button on the right of all the different buttons in the 'advanced' view for posts editor (ie. where the bold/italic/ etc buttons are)

Press it > paste the letters youve ciped into that box and voila = embedded:thmbup1:

OR

1. If you want to be clever, you can simply just type YOUTUBE tags

eg. [YTUBE]PSSYCATXYZ[/YTUBE] >>write the whole word youtube in the brackets

every now and then, some wont embed - that has something to do with the user on YT, so just hyperlink to it as usual ;)

I'm becoming ever more convinced that I'm the slowest player in history. My first playthrough took me 75 hours. :¬:

Though at least the results turned out pretty OK for me, since I prefer happy(ish) endings. :) Everyone survived, even the crew redshirts and Kelly, though I don't know how much luck was involved in that.

If I remember correctly I was doing something like:

(prep)

Everyone loyal

Got all upgrades for Normandy and squad

Went to Omega-4 as soon as the quest started

(first part)

Pipe crawler tech - Legion

Fire team leader - Miranda

With me - Tali, Grunt

(seeker swarms)

Biotic - Samara

Fire team leader - Garrus

With me - Tali, Miranda

(finale)

Crew escort - Mordin

With me - Tali, Miranda

THOSE LOST:

Miranda Lawson (I'm not sorry she's gone at all. I think Jack is right re: her.)

If you make her loyal (I assume) and go for the Paragon ending I think it's worth keeping her alive and bringing her in your group for the finale just to...

...see her stick it to The Man when Tim tries to order her to stop Shepard from blowing up the Collector base.

2 Burning questions:

*What took so long ? I scanned every planet and did every mission except that stupid wrecked ship(due to bugs). Even then I clocked just 38 hours..

*For such a long playthrough, how did you manage to keep Kelly alive.. After doing all my scans and getting all the upgrades I could find, by the time I got to the end mission, I got told off for being late after Kelly gets sucked up a tube :( You took 75 hours and no Kelly suckage.... HOW!! ???

lolz.. that makes it much easier :thmbup1: I got so used to doing it the other way from other places I didn't even test that when I wrote the above post

There are two ways. Remember that the game continues after the final mission, so you can do side-quests after that. Alternatively, you could do everything before the IFF mission. Either way, as long as you go straight from the Joker mission to the Omega 4 relay, Kelly will be around afterwards. The elapsed time is irrelevant (as far as I know), all that counts is the number of missions you do in between. I guess stoffe likes to stop and smell the roses.

If it works, here's my Mass Effect 2 video playthrough! :) Please rate and comment! :) Yes, I played the whole game in Russian, and Shepard's name is "Shakhmaty" (SHAKH-ma-tee), after the Russian word for my OTHER favorite game--chess!

Waiting for the unveiling of the, no doubt lame, "epic community event" (3ish hours from time of posting) and came across a thread that gave me a laugh - http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/105/index/1398049/1

The pic where he is checking out Jack is gold.

EDIT: Lol, their "epic event" is a server crash apparently. Jesus their IT department sucks a nut. You'd think they'd have learned something after the TOR beta signup fiasco.

Ah yes, that makes sense - I wasn't expecting the end to be open like that and allow you to continue on.

Ah well, I'm not redoing the whole thing for Kelly, even though she had a little thing going with my femshep... RIP. :(

I'm a hopeless completionist. Scanned all the planets, talked to all NPCs and explored every nook and cranny of the quest areas. That, and lots of drawn out firefights due to being overly cautious I guess. :)

*For such a long playthrough, how did you manage to keep Kelly alive..

Did all the side quests before heading to the derelict Reaper, and did Legion's loyalty quest directly after being done on the Reaper without going anywhere else in between. Then, after the Collectors attack the Normandy I headed straight for the Omega relay to start the mission.

Worse than that. It's some silly 15th Bioware Birthday lottery that only people in the US can participate in. Seems to be stirring up quite the shitstorm of angry non-americans on the Bioware forums. Nice way to celebrate your birthday. :)

Well, I'm not too far behind I guess. Already at >43 hours and still have a few loyalty missions, another crew member and the endgame to get to.

The whole concept is kinda funny. Tried doing something like that in ME w/a female Shep (make her look fugly). That one looked like it could've been her brother.
