kotor 3 - the dream is dead

Recommended Posts

^^^Now that's something I hadn't thought of yet. Sharp as ever, Murph.

If it has resounding success, I can very definitely see some series of games to deal with all the supposed content of TOR. That's a *very* good business tactic. It all assumes that TOR is successful in the first place of course. That scenario: a stellar MMO and thousands more fans of the MMO as new customers. That's simply brilliant.

I can see, though, if the MMO is not the best but isn't bad...it'll happen still.

Suppose if it fails...that (hopefully LA would learn some lessons and not rush things, hmm) K3 happens as was originally planned as a 3rd installment of the KO-TOR series.

Would people prefer they release an half assed K3 just to grabs your cash??

At least you SWRPG fans have had 2 decent games in recent times and have TOR to look forward to.... spare a moment for us poor SW Flight Sim fans... we havent had SQUAT since XWA (nb. Arcade Flight sims dont count)

28 FEB 1999 was a joyous yet sad day for SW flight sim fans.... OMG! Has it really been 10 years.... *cries*

I would prefer a completed K3...I think LA has learned their lesson about rushing the KOTOR series. I don't see why both can't be made actually...not at the same time of course but both would be more profitable than most games.

How so? Care to elaborate?

It'll be interesting to see years down the road who is right about this. And how right they were.

^That it will.

Sure I'll elaborate: The outfit really did it for me...I mean it looks like she is wearing either a strapless dress or a tube top with a skirt. I've seen some of the K1 + K2 concepts and while they look weird now that I've actually seen the in game characters, the concepts at least looked starwars-ish to me. If that makes sense...? Also the fact that she is the only character art leaked seems a bit odd to me...I mean I get that there is not a lot but 1? And it is not the character Naresha because the artical said and unknown female...I guess I don't really have a good answer for you because so much is speculation.

@GTA:SWcity: Like the Red avatar and quotes. He is hilarious :p

What--Whaaaat? C'mon, she could be, like, wearing one of those Coruscant "escort" dresses. :naughty:

Sure. Well, except the Zeison Sha/Jal Shey armors, to me, looked more like some dorkish conglomerate made by someone who doesn't know how to dress themselves.

I.E. the whole thing looks like tights, toy plating, the rear chain mail-ish thing looks more like Soneone just tied their sweatshirt around their waist and it's hanging off their hindquarters, birkenstocks with white socks rather than plated battle boots, and a hood making the "sweatshirt" look redundant. Looks ridiculous. But it does have a space-y look to it I suppose if it were not so...retarded looking... Like a kettle head designed it.

Hmm, good as any I suppose.

I'm sure Kurtwood Smith would be happy to hear that. --Thanks!

Personally, I never cared for KotOR 3, as whenever I thought of the possible plot I knew that Half of the fans would want to play Revan and the other half Exile, which would INSTANTLY cause complaints whichever one they chose, as one half wouldn't get their candy.

Then I thought that they could have segments where you switch between Exile and Revan, but I soon figured that this would get tedious and annoying, the Revenge of the Sith game proved this, as whenever I played Anakin I had to let out a big groan before continuing, because I wanted more Obi-wan, because Obi-wan is EPIC.

NO EXCEPTIONS.

Then there might of been an idea to create a brand new character, but that wouldn't work because it'd make no sense whatsoever, as they would have no ties to Revan, knowledge that he was in whatever place he was, and no reason for being there, and basically it would be a plot hole. Then maybe you would play as the party members from either KotOR, but that also wouldn't work because that'd eliminate the variety of heads that we get, and we'd be having a forced appearance.

In fact since KotOR 2 I had decided it would be awesome if they made a KotOR MMO, as it would be more open, and reasonable, and during the course of it you might pick up actual reasons to go get Revan, and look at that, they are.

I'm amused that they mistakenly said that Aristotle interviewed people at LA and was told one was in development, unless there's actually another Aristotle at another SWK site somewhere that I don't know about who talks to LA on a semi-regular basis like our Aristotle. tk102 and I did the interview of Aristotle, and he never said that at all, though it was hinted at in this comment:

Ah... the KOTOR 3 question.... let me just say ... don't forget the NDA we are under... but I will say stay tuned

Transcript is here.

Like MegaMan Xtreme2 switching between MMX & Zero, mostly at your choice, some parts mandatory.

<snip> because I wanted more Obi-wan, because Obi-wan is EPIC.

NO EXCEPTIONS.

Or it could be something else remotely related to the overall picture.

If you look at it either way, neither Revan nor Exile ultimately had absolute control over the galaxy. They merely made a determination at pivotal points which affected the rest of the galaxy. Nothing more. People need to stop tying in all the importance into individuals, because it really is larger than them.

Sheesh you people, still whining over KotOR 3. Can't you see the epic greatness of KotOR 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9?

No. :smirk2:

Honestly, I think LA may really start milking the KOTOR series. I wouldn't bat an eye if they made a Lego KOTOR, they probably will. Maybe some DS shovelware, some kind of KOTOR themed jedi battles wagglemote riff-raff. Kids would just eat up some of the characters (in K1 at least: Mission, T3, Hk). With TOR and some of the other merchandising they've done, I think the series is visible enough for when the clone wars craze dies down.

Kinda sucks. E for Everyone but us.

I can understand the reason for an MMO, but the reason for making it happen 300 years later without resolving the ending to TSL is ridiculous. I think they just did it to make SOME kind of ending that would get people to buy it. If the MMO doesn't work, then they'll make KOTOR for real.

Consider this much: the Darth Bane novels pretty much are the turning point between the OLD REPUBLIC, and the republic we see become the empire in the films. It isn't like we don't ultimately know where it's heading.

Basically from what I surmise There shall be some kind of story generally that a huge war started, both sides had leadership and structure that ultimately buckled and folded under pressure, some band of Jedi killed the emperor of the sith, Some sith infiltrated the republic and killed the chancellor, it all turns to anarchy, the victory is signified either way (both ways?). YET the war will continue on endlessly for both sides in a continual anarchious state while all the splinter factions grab at power.

One day Lord Kaan will attempt to unite the sith, and the Jedi will have begun recruiting younglings to go fight, now. The rest after that is history.

I really want this MMO game to crash and burn with a vengeance. Believe me, they're not getting my money and hopefully a lot of people will join me on this one.

There is hope that with this tough economical time that many parents refuse to give their whiny kids their monthly subscription and because of it they don't get all the money LA expected and it ends up being a total loss. That would make me happy.

Normally I would look down on anyone that hopes Lucasarts churns out a lemon, but I soon came to realize that they haven't made anything great for a long time. As much as I hope for Lucasarts to prosper, I've come to expect disappointment from them. If this MMO is a failure, I won't care one way or another what happens to the company. If it is yet another disappointment, I don't want them to get the impression that we want more of the same. If they take on KOTOR III, that would give me more confidence and enthusiasm for their future success.

Maybe it took 300 years for the story to continue?

Say...when Revan went to the Unknown Regions he caused enough damage to set back their assault but in the process got captured, and they expected somebody else to come so when The Exile came they initiated a trap and captured him as well.

Though I'm pretty sure they'd ( Revan and The Exile) be dead by now, they might have used something to keep them alive, and now it's continuing, 300 years later.

Not sure how I see it in the larger sense. KOTOR series already has its loyal following, that much is certain. MMO could go one way or the other.

So far as the story is concerned...well, yeah. After a few big wars and the sith threat being eradicated, the Republic probably began its long unglamorous road to recovery. Probably not a lot went on. That I could see happening that is noteworthy in the big galactic picture.

As much as I dislike MMO's' date=' I hope TOR will work out. Reason being, if a massive MMO set in the old republic flunks, do you really think LA will make a far riskier RPG in the same setting?[/quote']

Y'know, although I do not agree with you all the time, I have to give you a nod of respect for your optimistic nature. At least when it comes to business and economy, anyway.
