lolz... there's alot more to that than that one post, but omitting detail and context to support your point is indeed remarkably Texan of you ;)
Fixed. ;)

Since when do jokes need detail and context? Or are you saying this alleged bias against Texans requires a forum wide investigation? :xp:

I actually thought your post was very funny especially the line “must be due to the air of always being correct you exude, a typically American trait,” once I considered the source of these of these words of wisdom. :D

nope, but I did not want it to taken too far out of context, lest members be discouraged from travelling to techforum as a result of these perceived biases you are conjuring :p

anyway, enough of that. This is Avery's thread ;)

@Evil Q--jmac's correct--there are more kinds of anti-depressants than SSRIs. The diarrhea side-effect only lasts a couple weeks, and resolves even faster if you add some more fiber to your diet as your body adjusts. Also, not all SSRIs create that side effect--I would talk to your doctor and see if another one works without creating that same effect. There are some anti-depressants that aren't nearly that expensive, too.

Astro brought up a point about community centers that I'd like to touch on. If you're in the US, there are agencies and community centers that have counselors available if you don't have any kind of mental health coverage, or have minimal coverage, but you have to look for them. This tends to be more of a problem in the US because we don't have universal health care and mental health issues aren't viewed with the same level of seriousness as other physical disorders, unfortunately. If you live in a country that does have universal health care, your first visit should be to your primary healthcare provider. Seeing your primary doctor anyway is a good idea--sometimes depression has an underlying physical disorder like low thyroid, and treating that can improve life substantially.

Here are some web resources and places to find support:

I'm aware that there are other types of anti-depressants. It's pretty much a moot point since I can't afford any type at the moment.

If I recall correctly, the diarrhea lasted for well over a month, and my diet is pretty high in fiber. It was a waste of time as it did absolutely nothing for my mood, anyway. It was like paying $150.00/month to take a placebo that gave me diarrhea. I'm sorry, but I can't afford to waste my money on hit-or-miss crap like that. The mental health profession grifted it's last dollar from me five years ago, anyway. I've had enough of its worthless, self-serving BS to ruin several lifetimes, now.

I came out of 20 years of "treatment" thoroughly convinced that it's all little more than a scam. :dozey:

Appology accepted--not that I ever took it too personal to begin with. I forgive ya. Question is: Do *you* forgive yourself?

I've no doubts you'll find what works for you, you're very forthright. Facing yourself is one of the toughest hurdles though. However, it can be done, and it must.

Best wishes to you on your journey.

cheers for that Jae. I was hoping someone with specific awareness of local medical resources would supply the details I could not :) In Oz, we are lucky to have a universal system. It isnt fantastic, but is good for many things, and helps alot people - esp those who dont have health cover and/or are on a pension etc
