Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch dies of cancer, aged 47

 

I know a lot of people around here are of the younger generation, but the Beastie Boys have always been a big deal to me. I was lucky enough to see them live several times.

 

This is a first time in a long time that there has been a celebrity death that I personally cared about.

I hated the Beastie Boys when I first heard them as a kid, but even someone like me who generally hates rap came to appreciate their very unique sound over the years.

Even if you don't love their music you still have to appreciate what they did. Metal+Rap was their creation. They showed Rap can be done by white people too.

I hated the Beastie Boys when I first heard them as a kid, but even someone like me who generally hates rap came to appreciate their very unique sound over the years.

I bought my first CD Robert Palmer's Riptide in 1986 in a Austin Sound Warehouse. I still remember the clerk saying, "CD will last about 100 years, can you believe crap like Licensed to Ill will be around in 100 years.

 

They showed Rap can be done by white people too.

I thought Vanilla Ice did that.

 

Rip Adam Yauch... I didn't buy License to Ill in 1986, but I did purchase it sometimes in the 90's. Not a fan, but the songs definitely bring back memories.
