Government Interference in the Post Office

Another week, and I have yet another gripe. For those of you who watch television, you will have seen the ones talking about post offices being closed and service on Saturday, and direct delivery in some cases being curtailed. This is due to a bill passed back in 2006 where someone noticed a fact most of you don't know...

When it comes to wasting money, the Post Office is the only branch of the Federal government where they have always operated in the black, meaning that while they might need to borrow at the start of the year, they always paid that back by years end. No other branch can say that.

So back in 2006, someone came up with the idea of looting the post office for their own pet projects; projects that run over on their funds, and in some cases, don't even have to explain their shortfalls to us. Now, it's come time as the old saying goes to pay the piper, and they expect us to pay for it by accepting reduced services.

The last time the post office reduced service like this was back in the first decade of the 20th century. After the advent of the telephone, the post office reduced their services. They went from four deliveries a day to only one. Of course then it was a logical step; why spend a whole 12-14 hours waiting for say an invitation to a party that night to be delivered across town for the reply?

It makes all the talk about charging us for e-mails more sinister.

When you see the ad, write down the link, and tell congress where to stick it; sideways, without lube
