Could you please answer these questions? They've been bothering me since last month:

1. When on Earth is LucasFiles ever coming back online?! It's been down for at least 3 years, and I want to be able to download those files!

2. I've been wanting to post attachments (small files, such as jpg/png/gif screenshots, stuff that might help with any problems I have) since I saw that there was such a feature, but it says "You may not post attachments" under the permissions (At the bottom of any page). When/How on Earth do I ever get attachment posting privileges? Do I have to exceed a certain number of posts and/or threads? If not, how do I get that privilege?

3. What were Windu Chi and Nancy Allen`` banned for, and for how long? I saw in this thread that ZafoftheNinja wanted to contact Windu Chi, but you strictly refused to give contact info. WHY didn't Mimartin (the Super Mod in said thread) just PM the info to him, instead of just locking the thread and saying something along the lines of "sorry, I can't give you the info. It would be against the rules."?

4. Under the site rules, it says that posting porn and/or spam, or creating a duplicate account/evading a temp ban, results in a permanent ban. Why don't you warn them first, give them a temporary ban (i.e. 2-4 years) if they don't listen/apologise, then only (and I mean only) give the perm ban if they try again after the temp ban? Please give them a chance to apologize! It's not fair that they can't apologise, due to a sudden and perm ban! That rule really confuses me.

1. It most likely isn't

2. Feature is availible, but has been turned off.

3. Cannot say. I couldn't give him the information because it is against the rules. I have to obey rules same as anyone else. As to what someone was ban for, can't say. Again rules, we take privacy information very serious. We will not discuss infractions or bans publicly. If the person that got the infraction and/or ban wants to disclose the information to you privately, then it is up to them. Pretty much if someone is banned you can figure our why by reading the rules and understanding they had to violate a very serious one or smaller ones until they ran out of chances. Since I have been a moderator, I have not seen the staff ban anyone besides spambots without serious discussion and debate. If anything we have been slow to ban and given disruptive members way too many chances and plenty of warning.

4. Rule is pretty clear, if you are banned stay off until the ban is up. Common sense really, but I will bring it up in mod chat.

1. WHAT?! WHY do you refuse to bring that site back? Please give me a reason. I WANTED to download those files! PLEASE bring the site back, or at least tell me where (or how) to get the files!

2. So when are you ever going to turn it back on? I want to be able to post attachments, even if I have to have a certain number of posts to do it (say, 50)!

3. I think you should unban those 2, especially since they've been banned for almost a decade, which is quite a long time. I 'm sure they've learned their lesson by now. They probably won't repeat the same offense again.

4. Thanks for at least listening to this one, but I still think 100 points shouldn't be perm. I think it should be at most 3 years :thmbup1:

It costs money to run it and the site owner pays for all of this out of his own pocket, it takes volunteers (which we don't have enough of), and there was not enough use to justify the cost.

Too many pornbots were posting porn, a few people abused the privilege either with uploading too many images with too large a size or inappropriate images. Since we serve people who live in remote places all over the world where internet is extremely slow, we keep the attachments to the very minimum.

That's the reason why only moderators and above can post attachments.

People who are permanently banned have a. done an offense that is so awful that they need to be kicked permanently or b. have had repeated temporary bans and kept doing something they weren't supposed to.

While we appreciate your desire to give people another chance, our job is to protect the community as a whole. If someone is being terribly abusive to other members and hurting them, we cannot allow that person to continue to post on this site. We don't remove a person just to punish that one person. We also remove a person in order to protect the rest of the community from that person. We don't PM a banned person because they can't access the site at all to receive it. Also, if they've done something bad enough on this forum that we consider them to abusive or even a danger to the community here, you don't want to contact them, either.

That's why we give warning cards or lower level points first before a permaban, unless it's something truly awful. The 100 points are usually reserved for pornbots--we don't want them back EVER. We have kids on this site, too, and lots of members who don't want anything to do with porn or drug ads. If someone gets a pornbot virus from this site and accidentally downloads child porn, for instance, it could destroy the careers of teachers, doctors, nurses, child social workers, and anyone else who works with children. We are not going to allow something like that to happen when we can very easily permanently ban that activity.

Thank you for your concerns. I hope this explains some of the reasoning for protecting valued members from predators and people who would like to do us harm.

We do warn people. Pornography should obviously be a definite no-no where a permanent ban is warranted, but, and I'm sure other Moderators will agree with this, we've given spammers plenty of opportunity (warnings and infractions and then a temp ban) to reform before resorting to permanent bans.

And if someone chooses to violate a temp ban by creating a sock-puppet then quite frankly they've earned a permanent ban.

May I ask why you're so interested in having them unbanned? You're lucky we're even having this discussion, really.

And in any case, as Mim states, we don't discuss bans and infractions with other members, so I'd suggest not dwelling on the issue.

Permaban wouldn't be permanent if it wasn't forever. I can't speak for the entire life of LF, staff has changed over the years, but since I have been a mod and super mod there has been logical reason for every ban even those few I was on the not permaban side of the debate.

Points fall off, it is really difficult to hit 100 points, someone that hits 100 is trying and deserves what they get.
