Can't start KOTOR II

[Edit] If one of the mods could please edit the typo in my tread title ("Star" should be "Start"), I would appreciate it. Things like this annoy me.

Hello. With the activity on these forums having dwindled so drastically in the past few years, it seems no one ever visits forums like the Workbench. As such, I felt it was probably my best bet to post this here as it will probably get the most immediate attention, since I am kind of in a hurry to start playing this game (I have precious little time to do the things I like with my work schedule) and would like to get it underway sooner than later.

It should be noted that I am still using Windows XP and am still using the retail version of the game (both things that will have to wait until I can afford upgrades). The game is patched to version 1.1, which I believe is the latest version, and I have installed--for the first time--TSLRCM and M4-78, along with a plethora of other mods.

My problems are twofold:

1. The game will crash half the time when I select a new game. The loading screen will come up and it will freeze as soon as the loading bar reaches the end of the screen. As of now, it is a gamble as to whether or not this will happen, which means I have to keep shutting down and starting the game back up, hoping for that 50/50 chance that I will get past this part and to the character creation. This was happening 100% of the time, but after searching online I found a semi-fix: in my NVIDIA Control Panel, I changed my "Threaded Optimization" from "Auto" to "Off." This has enabled me to get to the character creation screen half the time I start the game, as I said, though it would be nice if this were fixed completely.

2. This is something I absolutely cannot get past. Once I have created my character and watch the Star Wars opening crawl and damaged Ebon Hawk adrift movies, it starts to load the first scene aboard the Ebon Hawk, where the Exile lies unconscious. However, although I do hear the initial ambient beeps and blips associated with the scene, it freezes and crashes before it even fades away from black. This is rendering it impossible to start the game and has me frustrated like you would not believe. (It is the same problem that this person here is having, but no one seems to have a concrete answer for him.)

There is yet a third issue that is unrelated and not really a priority, though it would be nice if it could be fixed:

3. [Low-priority] Is there any way to set small fonts in this game without causing it to crash at startup? KOTOR 1 had the option to do it from the in-game menu, but KOTOR 2 lacks that; and when I set "Use Small Fonts=0" to "=1" in the "swkotor2" Notepad file, as you probably know, the game will freeze and crash before the startup movies even play. I tried disabling movies, but it doesn't help. Like I said, this is a low-priority issue and not really necessary to getting my game started.

When I scanned my system, it said that my video card drivers are out-of-date, which is BS because they are obviously newer than the game. They are too new, and probably always will be regardless of what update I may install.

I tried disabling grass, shadows, buffering and V-Sync; enabling and disabling hardware sound; ensuring that the screen resolution matches in both instances in the "swkotor2" Notepad document; replacing KOTOR 2's "Mss32.dll" with KOTOR I's (I see no reason to download a Vista/7-compatible one as I am using neither of those operating systems); disabling "Read-Only" in most of the game files, and all sorts of things. The only thing I haven't tried is uninstalling and reinstalling, because it'll be a bitch getting everything up and running to the level it is now as far as the mods are concerned. But the game has been installed on my PC for years and I haven't had this problem until now. The only things that have changed between then and now were software updates.

Here is a copy of the infro from the "swinfo" report that I saved:

Like I said, I'm doing it a little old-skool at the moment because of financial issues. I haven't updated my operating system yet nor downloaded a Steam or GOG version of the game, both of which I plan to do once I get back on my feet (though other pressing matters take priority before that can happen).

If someone could get to the matter quickly, I would very much appreciate it. As I said, I am anxious to play this game again after a many-year hiatus from it and don't have a lot of time to do so.

Thank you.

Nevermind. I uninstalled the game because it looks like there is no fix for it on modern machines, and purchased and downloaded the GOG version. But alas, in doing so I have no free space on my machine and thusly cannot install it. I will have to wait until I can afford to make some minor upgrades.

Thanks for your help.
