Explanation: Why *.mixnmojo.com is bouncing

A lot of people have noticed that they may be able to access a .mixnmoj.com site now.. but in a few minutes it'll stop working.

Here's why (now someone fix it! :)

mixnmojo.com is delegated to two DNS servers:

NS1.CARTSYS.NET 64.3.146.254

NS2.CW.NET 204.70.57.242

The problem? Eaxh of these servers has different information!

[ender@shaker]$ dig scummrev.mixnmojo.com @64.3.146.254

scummrev.mixnmojo.com. 10M IN A 209.126.167.133

[ender@shaker]$ dig scummrev.mixnmojo.com @204.70.57.242

scummrev.mixnmojo.com. 1M IN A 209.126.167.137

And of course, each of these servers also thinks another server is responsible (Technical: The zonefiles hosted on those two DNS servers both have NS fields for OTHER non-authorative DNS servers).

So.. basically, someone has to make sure that NS1.CARTSYS.NET is primary (with a zonefile that has two NS fields, cartsys.net and cw.net)... then they have to make sure cw.net is secondary and slaving from cartsys.net.

Sorry for the spam, but that's why things are only working some of the time ;) The easy solution is to just force the domain you want to access in your hosts file until it's fixed.

Thanks Endy, although we don't want to use EITHER of those nameservers and are in the process of changing them to the right ones but we're having some trouble with Network Solutions. Though thanks for explaining what the heck is going on with the domain. :)
