Ahh, I see. So it's kind of like getting RAID 0 performance from one drive instead of having to use two? ...Or am I waaaaay off?

Are they only SCSI? Or can you get IDE as well? Are they worth it? And where the hell do you get them from??? - I've never come accross them in my continuing quest for PC components... ;)

hmmm...

When my brother upgrades in the summer(or earlier), we're going to use his old 750mhz Athlon as a file server...or so he says... If there is a linux version of the server(any word on this?), you can bet money I'll run one!

My cable actually is running fast recently(2500kps+ the other day) so it might not be that bad, especially overclocked! It could be the JK2.net clan server(assuming I make it of course)!

One more thing, how many of you bought your own system, some of you have some nice units and I was wondering how some of you ,being in HS and all, bought these things.

I looked at birthdays and some of you are younger then my under wear..

buying your own system is cheep when you put it together and buy old stuff like me :D you get good deals on cards and whatnot that are a year old or so.... i splurged on a mobo and ram though... i bet everyone here would laugh if they saw the nine year old monitor and keyboard that came with my original Tandy 386  it maxes out at 800x600, oh well, at least games run good at low resolution.... arg...

I think you can get then for IDE, but their actually more expensive. If you have a SCSI and a twin processor HDD then it is worth it.

nice...but i only hv 4(i think) fans...as opposed to 10...but i dont really need anymore, as i hv:

Athlon 750mhz(NOT THUNDERBIRD or XP)

640mb PC133 SDRAM(1 stick of 128, 1 of 512)

Asus K7V mobo

17" monitor(high-res, 1280x1024)

GF2 mx400 64mb

30gb 7200rpm(2gb free :()

M$ optical trackball(cleaned out every boot)

Win98

SBLive! Value(EAX, drool)

cable

incredible res on EF(1280x1024)(those incredibly detailed texs now look grainy)(is there a crosshair?), not on Wolf(960x720)(crashes at anything higher)...

building another computer around JK2 time:

AthlonXP 1800+

19" 1600x1200 monitor

512mb PC2100 DDR

mobo...?(recommendations appreciated)

GF3ti200

60gb 7200rpm

same mouse

WinXP(cracking the product activation thru the registry)

SBLive! Value(probly)

cable

itll be my 4th...

all i have is a laptop with:

AMDK62 475 mhz

120 mb ram (actually 128 MB but 8 are used by graphics card)

trident graphics card

5.3 GB hard drive (it says 6, but the comp says 5.3, damn computers say 1,014 bytes = 1 KB and so on, while we say 1,000 bytes = 1 KB)

i only have about 1.05 gb left, may get an external usb drive

Windows ME (regrets this, not paying money for XP)

my home comp

its embarasing(sp?)

its dying so it won't be able to run JKII

my bro thinks he is going to get a new comp before JKII comes out, yeah right, my dad probably won't let him, or take it over

btw my bro is DG_Serendipity on the zone
