Good keyset

Recommended Posts

Well I'm a complete n00b at FPS games and I am going to be getting Jedi Knight 2 on Friday. I love the trial and I love fast combat mode because quick is k00l. Anyway, I was wondering what the expert players had to say about a good control set for quick use of the Force Powers etc.

Thanks in advance for your help :D

First of all: Dark Begger, You're a freak! :D

Seriously, you are! "mouse 2 - forward"??! :confused::D

Okay, here's mine (needless to say that it is the best possible solution):

I use the numpad to move around >> buttons 5, 8, 4, 6.

Around the numpad I have bound all the forces and secondary attack. I use mouse 2 to jump/kick.

Every button I need is right there AND this way my wrists are in an ergonomic position >>> I push the keyboards left side forward, so that my "control center" is shaped like a " \/ " .

So this is it - the secret why I totally pWn j00 4ll! :D

heheh, YES! mouse 2 is forward!!! eat it!!! lol..actually mine are pretty easy to use...with your index finger on b, and middle nad ring finger on d and f, and pinky on z...it fits over the key board quite nicely and comforably, almost like you're typing on a key board position. Then the mouse controls all the 'vital' motions, as in moving, turning, attacking, weapons switching. It's all there so your left hand can have an easy job just by clicking the other buttons. hehehehe..

i love my controls:

w,s,a,d = forward, back, strafe left, strafe right

c = cl_run !

space = crouch

shift= jump

z,x = seeing, absorb

q,e,r = pull, push, protect

mouse weel up/down = force powers up down

f -= use force power

mouse 3 = lightsaber

alt = use key

and a bunch of other binds + the default keys but thats the core

I use a Nostromo controller myself. That way my keyboard is open for things like taunts and emotes. If you have not tried one of these do so. Way faster than a keyboard. On the keypad I have lightning, grip, drain, move l/r/f/b, taunt, saberthrow, push, pull, crouch. My mouse is mwup = saberattackcycle mouse1=attack mouse2=jump mwheeldown=attack (for saber locks).

Man, you have TWO forces on ONE key? confused:confused: :confused: How'd you do that? How does it work? You can't use them simultaneously, can you?

I have near standard Half-life controls, but of course the force empowerment of JK2 requires a little extra tweaking in regards to key set.

WASD for movement...

Q - prev weapon

1-0: default weapons

Z/X - prev/next force power

C - Saber cycle

R - Taunt

T - Saber challenge

G - Heal (for JvM games)

Ctrl instead of C for crouch

Mousewheelup/down - Push and Pull

Alt (my thumbside mouse button) - Absorb

yeah so what my Keyset is boring :bdroid1::(

c- speed

Keyboard configs are very personal, and many people prefer a lot different settings than others.

one popular seem to be w,s,a,d for forward, back, left & right, but I always gone with r,f,d,g (forw,back, left, right) because it leaves me with the keys q,a,z,w,s,x,e EASILY reach by my,... well, english aint't my primary launguage, but the smallest finger reach most of those keys easily, with some help of the finger next to the smallest finger... :)

and on my right side I have space,alt,t,y,b,h,y,n, very easily to reach by my thumb(knew the name of the thumb at least) and the finger I point with... the finger used for doing that ugly gesture against someone I use only on the key R and on the number keys 4 & 5...

You see I got a lot of keys easily reached, but I've used these keys since Quake1... And I got a lot of keys I can reach by taking a 0.5 second extra to reach, but those I use mostly for bind sayings...

the bottom line is:

Take the keys you feel comfortable with, but make sure you got a lot of spare keys around those... not the usual up,down,left,right as movement keys, because there are really few keys you can reach easily from there (if you don't have a really big or fast hand)...

Remember, know you may use 20 or so keys, but in 1 years? maybe 30... so instead of moving the keys later, plan them carefully now... you're just starting to bloom =)

Take care

I have rewieved all the candidates, and I must say that the decision was fairly easy.

Luc Solar's keyset is by far the most intuitive. Dark Begger gets the second prize, 'cause he has to be damn good at this game if he is able to play with a freak-ass setup like this;

(mouse 2 - forward

mosue 1 - fire

b - back

d - strafe left

f - strafe right

z - jump

shift - crouch

v - light saber styles

space - saber throw

g - push/lightning

r - mindtrick/grip

x - rage/protection

The rest of you...well...good luck to you all, maybe next time... :)

Eh, I use my joystick and mouse.

I've been doing better in games since I got my joystick.

Mouse-look

Mouse1 (and joystic trigger) - Fire

Mouse2 (and joy3) Alt. Fire

I should probably work out something less redundant for the fire buttons, but I haven't bothered yet.

Mouse3= Use Force

, and . = switch force

[ and ] = switch inv

numpad + = bound to set my force buttons for light powers

numpad - = bound to set my force buttons for dark powers

num / = vote no

num * = vote yes

numpad enter = taunt

Joystick: Forward, back, strafe left/right

Twist left: change stance

twist right: switch to lightsaber

Buttons on top of the stick

Button 1= jump

button 2= crouch

button 3= alt fire

button 4 = walk

hat switch

up= push

down=pull

left= heal or drain

right=absorb or lightning

Buttons at the base of the stick

Button 5= bacta

button 6= use inv

button 7= use

button 8 =duel
